Everybody needs to definitely start watching this show on Wednesday nights. But if you have missed the season so far wait until next season to start watching and get the season 1 DVD coming out in the summer.

This show just keeps on getting better and better every single week.

The writers for this show are excellent.

I know virtually nothing about it, but the ad I heard for it yesterday made me think of it fairly lowly. The announcer said something to this effect:

"On this island, it's not just a matter of survival...It's a matter of life...and death!"

Am I imagining things or did we not just have a thread like this?

I find it hilarious that someone thinks this is a Reality TV show, when it's exactly the opposite. Lost is everything a good television show should be, and it's one of the few shows on TV that showcases the writer's talent more than anything else. I know for a fact that after it became a huge hit, executives at FOX, NBC, and ABC were hitting themselves over the head for not grabbing the show when they had the chance. Lost and Desperate Housewives are at the forefront of an effort to knock reality tv shows out of the primetime lineup.

I've said this multiple times, but I'll say it again, J.J. Abrams is a genius.

Lost and Alias are two of the best shows on television right now and luckily the ratings for Lost have been excellent. Alias...not so much.

If you love Lost, please give Alias a chance. It's written and directed by the same people over on Lost but it's on the verge of cancellation. And I swear to god, I'll never forgive the American audience for letting the best show on television get cancelled.

I don't watch Alias because it comes on right after Lost. And right after Lost is over I want to jump on to the official message board for it too see what all the stuff they showed or hinted at during the show was supposed to mean. And I am sure alot of other folks who are really into Lost do kind of the same thing.

I think Alias being on right after Lost hurts it more than it does help it.

Honestly, Alias is the best thing I've ever seen on television. Bar none. It's your loss man.

But please tell me you don't go to the official ABC forums. That place is evil.

no I go to the official Lost website forum.

Also, the thing with Alias is that there are alot of shows out there that are just like it or rather similar to it (might not be quite as good as Alias. But they are probably pretty similar to it in setting).

Whereas there is really nothing like Lost out there. The closest thing you have to Lost is Gilligan's island and that was strictly a comedy show.

You obviously haven't watched Alias if you think there's anything like this on TV.

I'm not quite sure what your impressions of the show are, but it's not a typical spy show. Not in the least. Abrams has a special place in his heart for the supernatural (I mean c'mon, invisible island monsters?) and Alias is chock full of the same supernatural "wtf" goodness.

You know that mind-imploding "WHOA" sensation you get at the end of Lost when something insane happens?

Well nothing on Lost has ever made my jaw drop as much as Alias did during it's 2nd Season Finale.

If nothing else, no other show utilizes the Spork in such a fantastic way. :D

darkchrono
04-07-2005, 05:35 AM
Miriel that maybe,

But I think for alot of people the thought of watching a show where everybody is stranded on a deserted island is alot more intriguing (sp) than a show with the setting of Alias seems.

Also, let's get some different opinions on what you think is actually happening on the Lost island. I have heard alot of my friends when we talk about it think that everybody on the show actually died in the plane crash and they are in kind of a purgatory now. Or they got blown into some sort of time warp or something.

What would you guess is actually going on on the island.

Miriel
04-07-2005, 05:48 AM
The writers have said a couple times that the survivors are not in some sort of purgatory. And I really do think that the Purgatory theory is a little too...safe and predictable.

I haven't watched tonight's episode yet, but I'm pretty sure that during last weeks show when Boone was on the radio before the plane crashed down, that the person on the other end said, "No, we're the survivors of Oceanic flight 815."

I haven't a friggen clue what it means.

Does that mean that there are other survivors? Maybe Rose's husband?

Maybe it's group hysteria, or maybe a government experiment. Or maybe this is all in Charlie's head after he got too high. Who knows. I'd rather not over-analyze and try and figure the whole thing out.

Half the fun is in the mystery. ;)

Alias used to be one of my favorite show, but lately, the writes have been, "Let's bring people back from the dead/no where"

Lost is my favorite.

Andromada was cool, but then they were all like "Let's make no sense with time travel!"

24 beats the living out of this show. I tried so hard to get into it but it was just too boring and it went no where at all. If this goes a second season then there is some really poor writing going on to not be able to wrap this up with a max of 26 1 hour episodes. Unless more people get "lost" on the island and then it is a sad attempt to extend the show.

Miriel

I just watched tonight's show.

I cried. ;_;

I didn't even like the character, and I still couldn't hold back the tears. Rest in peace Boone, you had pretty eyes.

And 24, above all things, is an action show. Lost on the other hand is primarily a character study. It's silly to compare the two.

darkchrono
04-07-2005, 07:20 AM
Yeah, I had heard that one of the guy characters was going to die. I never guessed him because he never was a central character. But looking back on it it would have made sense for the writers to do that to him because he was the one who received the least development of any characters on the show and didn't really hold any plot points of his own to carry on to future episodes.

Will be interesting to see what comes of Locke now. Do you think he is a good guy or a bad guy after watching this episode.

Leeza
04-07-2005, 08:01 AM
I think Locke is a good guy. Tonight's episode was too intense and I never expected it to end like this. It's sad. :(

24 is good. I never miss it, but like Miriel said, you just can't compare the 24 to Lost. Two totally different things.

Miriel

Jack's make-shift island doctoring is way too hard to watch. The stabbing and the blood dripping and the leg chopping...yikes.

I knew Mr. Pretty Eyes was going to die, so I was surprised that I actually cried. But Blondie breaking down and sobbing in front of Pretty Eye's poor dead body did it for me, that kind of stuff cuts my heart right open.

Locke in two words or less: freakin' psycho.

That man has gone off his rocker with the whole "THE ISLAND WILL SHOW ME!" thing.

I bet you Locke's going to kidnap the evil baby of Doom and teach it the ways of the island. Then they'll join forces with Crazy French Lady and and Tom Cruise's cousin and launch an attack on the Survivors. During the battle, Freckles will be taken away and brutually murdered at the claws of a Polar Bear and the world will rejoice.

Kate is painfully boring. She needs to die soon.

Much love for Sun and Hurley though. <3

I tried so hard to get into it but it was just too boring and it went no where at all. If this goes a second season then there is some really poor writing going on to not be able to wrap this up with a max of 26 1 hour episodes.
Now this really isn't true. A recap:
Plane crashes, bunch of people die, some of them survive. Locke wiggles his big toe ala The Bride in Kill Bill and goes from being paralyzed to Hunter extraordinaire. There are polar bears and a Lostzilla romping through the jungle, as well as a crazy french lady who killed all her companions 16 years ago and has become...well ya know, crazy.

The little kid has weird "powers" and can make things happen by thinking about it. Turns out that Sun can speak English and she and Jin have a semi-divorce. Some poor extra named Joanna drowned, Charlie turns out to be a drug-addict, and Sayid gets tortured by the French Lady. Turns out they aren't alone on the island and Claire and Charlie get kidnapped by Ethan (Tom Cruise's evil cousin). Charlie is lynched, Ethan killed Scott, Claire is taken hostage, disappears for awhile and then reappeared with amnesia. Sawyer is taunted by a boar, Hurley built a golf course, and Kate sighs and looks off to the distance in a skimpy outfit. Shannon and Sayid get freaky, but before that Shannon and Boone have a semi-incestuous relationship and then Boone turns to Locke cause no one else can stand him, his eyes are too pretty. Charlie shoots Ethan 2 dozen times or so, Locke finds an alien hatch and then Boone dies just as Claire's demon child is born. In the meantime, nobody appears to be looking for them, and the raft got torched.
And that's all in the span of one month, I'd definitely say that the show was going somewhere. It works a lot like 24, every episode is only a day or two on the island. It isn't poor writing that's keeping them from wrapping up, it's excellent writing that keeps the show going. :)

Maybe it got better but all the episodes I watched in the beginning were about the people and their pasts...then someone dies. Not a whole lot happened and it was boring the out of me. I still say this is a show that should have stayed a mini-series.

Edczxcvbnm,
maybe you just are not a big fan of the slower paced character driven type of shows. Maybe you enjoy action more. But in anycase, just because it goes against what you enjoy doesn't mean the show sucks. And it seems quite a few people around the world have taken quite a liking to it.

I kind of wish I had watched this show from the beginning. I haven't watched any of it, but it seems like something I'd like. I'm just not good at sitting down to watch TV. The only shows I watch regularly are South Park and Desperate Housewives.

darkchrono

Shlup you might want to hold off watching it until next season (as if you tried to pick it up now you would be totally lost). And this summer pick up the season 1 DVD so you can go back and watch each episode at your own pace and liking. So by the start of next season you will be up to pace with everything and will understand Season 2 when it starts.

For all you girls who are calling Boone Mr. Pretty eyes. I figured you all would be more interested in the bad boy Sawyer type of character than the rather borrish Boone type of character.

I preferably like Claire the best. Shannon is allright but Kate for some reason doesn't do a whole lot for me other than that scene where they showed her in her bra. Maybe I'm just not in to the lawbreaking type of chicks.

Shannon just seems like a high mentenance type of girl while Claire seems like the type of girl who you would really enjoy being around. That is why Claire gets my vote.

Miriel
04-08-2005, 09:36 AM
Well in the fandom circles, Boone is called either "Pretty Eyes" or "God's friggen gift to Humanity" - but Pretty Eyes is shorter, so I go with that. He was the most useless character on the island and he bugged the crap outta me. But you gotta give credit where credit's due, the man is just so pretty.

I love Sawyer, I think he's the most complex character on the show. And he has those great one liners and awesome (if abeit racist) nicknames.

"I take comfort knowin' someday, this is all gonna be a real nice shoppin' complex.. maybe even an automall." - Sawyer

Heehee.

And Hurley is like the heart of the show, he's so damn huggable it's not even funny.

Hurley to Jin: "Dude, you really don't understand English?"
(long pause)
Hurley: "You're wife is hot."

Bwahaha. xD

But my favorite character has to be Sun. I love her pieces.

And sad news for Lost fans, great news for 24 fans, David Fury (best known for his writing on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and key writer/producer for Lost) is leaving Lost to go work on 24.

Damn. :(

Shlup if you need any episodes let me know, I have all of them on my computer. You know, so that if I ever wanted, I can obsessively go back and look for all the hidden clues. Not that I actually do that though...yeah.

uh oh, hopefully lost is able to maintain most of its key group of writers and what not so the storyline as it is going right now stays intact.

I know it is probably absolutely normal for a tv series to lose some writers and what not but if too many leave I am sure it kind of messes up the direction the show wants to go.

Hurley is AWESOME. Sawyer, Sun, Hurley, Locke, Charlie and Claire are my favourites. I'm shocked no one here finds Charlie hot. I think he's more attractive than Sawyer, not as much physically (even though he is hot in that way), but more personality wise, but that's just me.

I love Alias and i Love Lost, the new season for Alias hasn't arrived here yet and im still waiting but as for lost, its an awesome show no doubt. Reminds me of Lord of the Flies (had to read the book and watch the movie for school!). Definately makes you think about some interesting human behaviour...

Correct me if im wrong but i reckon Claire pretty much representing the aussie gals here (minus the pregnancy part) but personality wise she's like the aussie girls i know, fun, kind, just alround good person...Her and Hurley, that guy is a cracker of a character! Im getting interesting in Sun's character and i'd like to see how that superficial girl copes later on ( i forgot her name lol)! Saheed is pretty cool too...oh btw were just past the episode about Sawyers story, and some asthma thing with that blonde girl! On ya Sun btw!

But all in all from the first ep i was pulled into this show. That pilot was a great way to start off the show!

If I had to vote on what the girls in the show are supposed to represent. I would say they are each supposed to represent three very common personality types that you see in people in real life.

Of the three girls of Kate, Shannon, and Claire.

Kate I would say is supposed to represent the type of person who is somewhat distrustful of other people and as a result prefers to do things on her own. She can be outgoing but prefers to stay somewhat separated from the crowd and stay involved in her own interests that she alone can control. Wouldn't necessarily call her a type 'A' personality but probably the closest to a type 'A' that you will see on the show.

Shannon kind of seems like the type of girl who knows she is good looking and knows how to use it to her advantage. She is very materialistic and uses the power of attraction she has over men to get what she wants.

Claire on the other hand I would say represents the good hearted, loyal, nice girl image. The type of girl that guys want to marry.

I think they made these characters represent different personality types so the audience can pick the one out that they like best and can associate the best with them.

The guys on the show probably represent different personality types as well but you girls would probably be better at figuring out the differences between them than I would be.
