Doomgaze doesn't show up.

I've been flying around for days and I've only fought him once. What the hell is going on? Are there any special variables linked to his appearances that I don't know about, or is it truly random?

Ahh... I feel sorry for you. Are you flying in circles? That would explain it if you were.. or if you were following the same pattern.


Actually, what is random is the spot where you encounter doomgaze! In other words, fly in a pattern which allows you to traverse the entire map.

Go do other things and then come back to this. You may run into him while travelling to different places.

Since we're on the topic of Doomgaze, if you do eventually use the Vanish trick, don't use Vanish/X-Zone! If you do, you won't get the Bahamut Esper.

As far as I know, you'll get Bahamut just for beating him. There's some relic, though, that you won't get if you use Vanish/Doom. Some type of relic. You'll get the Magicite either way.

PS: I think Doom heals him doesn't it?? X-Zone definately "teleports Bahamut in another dimension" ;-)

The only thing you get from him is Bahamut, there's no relic to be had.

I cant remember if Doom heals him or not, though.
edit: I looked into it. Doom has no adverse effects on Doom Gaze, so I assume it doesnt heat him. Vanish/Doom combo is fine, Vanish/X-Zone combo causes the loss of Bahamut.
