Wow! Did any one else's heart skip a beat the first time they watched this? I hadn't seen it yet and my hands are still tingling. (I'm such a moe.)

But no Edward, Tellah or Yang? I can understand no Fusoya as his airtime was minimal but the others were large players.

I think the cutscenes are a joke. They totally suck. I'd rather watch the in game version than the movies.

True, true - the character art/design is a little.... "funny" and the whole project feels rushed.

Still - when that Red Wings theme kicks in, my heart beats in time.

The FMVs themselves were okay, but I like the game just fine without them. The characters looked so off in the FMVs that they practically destroyed any image that I had of them. But I really wish they hadn't based Rydia's appearance on Amano's work because she should look way better than that.

Funny you should say that, since prettymuch everyone's version of Lydia--the fan art and everything--are based on Amano's design.

And give Square a break for the quality. It was 1997.

Final Fantasy Collection, released in japan I believe first had those movies, and it was 1999, which is actually after Final Fantasy 8, so I think they could have done better.

The reason I think the movies suck so bad is because because of the developement team that did this job, and may not have had the resources... not too sure about this, however.

I think it's safe to say that the localization is great though. The dialogue is so much better since the script was practically rewritten.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think it was 1997 the movies were made. Chronicles was released stateside in 2001. Collection was released in japan 1999, and that had FF4, 5 and 6.

FFIV was released on the PlayStation in 1997.
FFV was released on the PlayStation in 1998.
FFVI and FFCollection were released in 1999.

They were released individually before hand...? How did I not know about this?

I should have known better than to deny Ryukishi so hastily.

I don't think even FF8 quality work would have stood up to the images I cultivated of the characters in my head. :D
