Basically, what is your opinion on it?
Do you like it? Do you like the new series? Do you even know WHAT it is or are you a serious Trekie who neglects other sci-fior series?

I've liked it for a long time, when my Mum rasied me on videotapes of the thing. My favourite doctor is Peter Davison (The 5th) simply cause he wasn't too weird. Plus, his assistants were the best because they wern't screaming every five seconds... except probably Peri.

I'm too young to remember the past Doctor Who's but the new one is excellent.

I love it. The new series. I don't remember the others, but Christopher Eccleston is awesome. Just those cheeky remarks and that smile. And Billie is cute. Plus it's just sci fi and a lot of fun.

I'm sorry to say I'm not liking it that much, although Christopher Eccleston does have a certain quirkiness to his acting. My fav Doctor Who was the one set at a lake with Knights and a big Demon, because it was filmed near where I lived and met Sylvester Mcoy.

Christopher Eccleston is doing a good job so far, but as I said in Xander's LJ, Billie Piper is a TERRIBLE actress, and in every episode she seems to be stuck behind a door and screeching "OPEN THE DOOR! LET ME OUT! OPEN THE DOOR!" Ugh.

In my opinion Christopher Eccleston is the greatest Doctor since Tom Baker. He's Quirkey, weird, funny, different & tops it off with amazing acting. He's a great actor, always liked him since Shallow Grave. Pity he's only there for 1 series. :(

Shalow Grave now that is one very good film. Yes he is a very good actor, I hope he does more mainstream films.

it's not the dr i take issue with, it's the rubbish special effects and poor one dimensional script i don't like.

Hmm... That's "Battlefield". I've got that on VHS and I agree, it is very good. I've met Tom Baker!

The special effects at the moment are not THAT bad, and you have to remember: It's a TV show. It has a limited budget compared to Film. And also, Star Trek cheats by basing it's CGI in space where it's just Black. It's harder to interpret CGI on a textured background. I think they're commedable compared to the past.
One-Dimmensional? It's witty, and british humour undercurrent makes it far more then "One-Dimmensional" In my opinion. True, it's basically the same : Doctor goes to place, bad things happen, a conclsion is reached and everyone is happy.
But it's fun. I think you may be taking it FAR too seriously.

I watched the first episode of thew new Dr. Who the other day and although, as with most people in this thread (it seems), I liked Dr. Who himself (well, the acting of Ecclestone, that is), I found the show itself to be boring and pretty lacking. No suspense, really, and the guy getting swallowed by the 'garbage can' was dumb. It reminds me of a cheap C-List parody movie when it comes to actual storyline and the like. It's just really, really lacking. I might give the second episode a look at just to see if there was any improvement, but I'm not expecting anything spectactular now, nor am I expecting myself to keep up with the series. I'd rather watch something else with a quality storyline as well as quality acting.

And to think, it's your T.V License money (those that pay it) that is helping to produce those wonderful special effects. Realistically, what did people expect? Hollywood style graphics and CG? No way. This is the BBC.

Not paticularly bothered to be honest. Unless I play the next Doctor Who after I accidently walk into the rehersals while cleaning up after Patrick Kealty at BBC London and start performing an impromptdue performance of MacBeth due to having consumed too many of Patrick's dead skin cells as he shed them prancing about the BBC...

...The hell you looking at me like that for?

I'm not too bothered about the new series.

I watch the old episodes because they're so freaking hilarious.

freaking hilarious.

What the British humour? But knowing you, you're talking about the FX.
You forget, that classed as "special effects" back then, and people believed it. It WAS Scary because people were actually bothered by the creatures. It was done in a way that seemed real, but also was very eccentric. It wasn't too heavy (Star Trek) but wasn't too jokey (Red Dwarf...Which I like).
You forget, the shows golden period (Tom Baker and Peter Davison was from Early 70s to Mid 80s). That was about 20 years ago.

Okay, so let me see if I got the last two episodes right.

A spaceship crashes into Big Ben one year in the future. Only it's not a real space ship, it's a genetically modified pig who's been taught to crash into monuments by other aliens. The Prime Minister goes missing, and so partliment is replaced by fat people who fart a lot. These are the aliens who taught a pig how to be a kamikaze space boar. The aliens want to blow up the Earth so that they can sell it for starship fuel. As the aliens are killing a bunch of people, the Doctor, realising that their farts smell like bad breath, figures out that vinegar will make them explode. Meanwhile, Rose's boyfriend hacks into the Navy website, and uses it to launch a missile at 10 Downing Street. Rose, realising that door frames can withstand missile explosions, saves everyone who's important's life as the whole of 10 Downing Street explodes, killing all the aliens who've decided to gather there for some reason.

Okay.

Yeah, that's about it alright. But "some reason" = the phone call from the UN. :D
