I plan on gtetting FFXI for my PS2 sence my PC can't handle it. So will I be able to play with people who play the PC version as well if I play it on the PS2?

Yes. :D (come to pandemonium)

Plus on PS2 you can do that underwater-in-Valkurm-glitch. x)

don't go to Pandemonium.

I've heard it's hard to type when you play on the PS2. Weird, huh?

Don't listen to Levian, he doesn't even play. >:D

edit: Plus, on Pandy there's me and Miriel! FUNFUN! Look at these screencaps Miriel got...

You will probably also want to get a keyboard when you play. Communicating with other players with the controller is a lot harder than just typing out what you want to say.

Can I somehow plug a keyboard from a PC into it? Or do I need a special one?

Rostum

Any kind of keyboard with a USB connection. They don't cost that much.

Also, you could concider the Midgardsormr server. All the old FFXI's members on this forum are there, including myself. (i.e. Zaphier, Lionx, Grandlethal, etc.)

All up to you.

Everyone seems to forget that I've been on Midgardsormr for over a year and a half... :rolleyes2

Aww but thats because you never slept with me yet roogle

Do not use the new thin PS2s they do not support the hard drive just so you know.

Misfit
04-14-2005, 12:45 PM
Yeah, go to Midgardsormr and learn more there and be happy. :D

Speaking of servers and whatnot... Let's see, I've been to Asura and visited Mik... Alexander and visited Bleys... somebody needs to get me a Midgardsormr WP and have a party with meee there, too. ^___^

Just don't go to Pandemona. Misfit will say she'll PL you, then she'll leave you on top of a mountain as goblin food.

Ouch!

Roogle's on Midgardsormr? News to me!

Yes, come visit us on Midgardsormr. Sure, the economy is a bit inflated, but it evens out.

Ah, I remember the day he and his friend helped me fight the Dragon in the DRG quest. <3 for Roogle!

You really ought to come to Midgard. It's got the highest population of EoFFers. I'm in Lionx's linkshell, and we've got a bunch in there as well as some very helpful people who I don't quite know. I think most of us are Windurstian, so it would probably help if you aligned yourself with Windurst at the start, although it isn't necessary.

And whatever you do, stay away from Ashura. The economy there has gone to hell.

Yeah, I play at random times, but it's not like I'm weak or anything! I'm a very powerful mage.

You would be lucky if you caught sight of me. I have only met a few people that recognize my name from EoFF and they don't usually post here.

I'm the only EoFFer on Ramuh, it's lonely there :(

You could say the same about ALL the servers.

But I'm at level 12, I'd have to start from scratch! Considering I don't play all that often I'd set myself back 9 months or more :(

Err...I plan to get this game too, but all this talk about servers has lead me to this question: can you change servers after you've created your characters? I already know a little about XI from my friend(I know the word "Linkshell"...don't know what it means, but I can probably use it stupidly).

can you change servers after you've created your characters?
Nope.
Here's how it goes: Someone from the server you want to be in buys a 'World Pass' from some vendor person, which should have a code that the person gives up to 5 people. You get the code, and as you're creating a character, you put the code in the world pass slot. Then, you get in said server.

I'm not too sure about this myself, as i've bought the game, but have'nt started it yet. I got all this secondhand.

So people all join midgard :D

You get put onto a random server.

I don't know - I played it for a few months on PC right after it came out. Now that I'm playing again and on my PS2, I don't know how I ever got along without that controller.

Goes both ways, i tried doing controller at an FFXI Expo kinda thing once, and i cant use it at all and went to the keyboard. O_o;

Roogle wouldn't buy me a world pass to Midgard when I was asking for one.

I, however, am not quite as stingy. Joel, I'll shout you one. :p

At times I think that I'm the only person on shiva. Most of the time there is less then 1000ppl on the entire server. I have been playing for months and can count the number of time I've been in a party on one hand with several fingers missing. :(

ok here's the thing, if I went to another server would i still be able to talk to people from Unicorn and would my friend list still be the same or would i have to start over with 0 friends

Lionx

Same list, you can talk to them through messages, i have a friend on pandie from beta i talk to, and a few of my friends that worldshifted to Hades as well.

I thought this was PS2 vs PC? Well going back into topic, I think PC is a little bit better, provided you have a good computer. If not PS2 isn't a bad choice either.

I like PC because you can customize your soundtrack and change the characters skins around. Neat stuff.

DJZen

You know, if the PS2 OS had a built in file viewer for the HD, you could easily do the same. All the relevant code is stored locally....

Basically, you should just buy whatever version of the game you can run. It cost me over $100 to get it working on my PS2, but it plays just fine. It's a lot of money for one game, yes, but my PC won't even run it. There's also now the third option of the upcoming XB360 release. If you want to play this game, just buy the version most suited to you. I'd say the technical quality would probably be something like this:

(worst) PS2-PC-XB360 (best)

So if you have a PS2 and a PC and plan on getting the XB360 and don't mind waiting for it, get that version. However, the PS2 version is still a perfectly good option for people like me who couldn't play the game otherwise.

Renegade135

The PC version is better in every way. Loading times, frame rate, graphic quality, controls, sound quality, typing speed, etc...

Rostum
05-25-2005, 10:52 PM
Well considering it's JOEL who started this topic:

Don't bother getting the version with the better graphics. =)
