View Full Version : Experience points needed for leveling... lowered?!

"The number of experience points required to gain each level was originally calculated after considering players' effects on the world of Vana'diel as they progressed beyond the initial level cap of 50. However, a considerable amount of time has passed since the implementation of the final cap of 75, and players beyond level 50 no longer have the same influence on the balance of the game. After a close review, the FINAL FANTASY XI development team has decided to reduce the amount of experience needed for leveling up after reaching level 51 (levels 1-50 will remain the same, however).
The update will affect the following:
-Experience points lost due to KO.
Starting at level 25, experience points lost after being KO'd will be 8% of the amount needed to reach the next level. However, this value will never exceed 2,400.
-Currently accumulated experience points.
At the time of the version update, if a player's currently accumulated experience points exceed the number required for the newly adjusted level, that player's experience points will be reset to one point below the number needed to gain a level.
New content and system-related adjustments are under constant consideration by the FINAL FANTASY XI development team to ensure a balanced playing experience in the evolving world of Vana'diel."

I am...so happy...too. I wonder how big the change is going to be. I doubt that it'd be anything drastic, lest they piss off those people who had to grind to 75 (hahaha, Mik :p ).

That is quite possibly the most exciting news I've seen in the last year. I'm glad I waited so long to make the plunge into 50+ lol.

I say its good if you are below 50, for people each level higher, they get $#@%ed over more. There are also more higher lvls in this case(maybe..maybe not) so more competition for HNMing and maybe high level gear. That in case will skyrocket prices for higher level goods for a while at the very least, while maybe making older gear more commonplace and cheaper. If i remember right the census showed that the ratio to lvl 65+ players is extremely low compared to others, i wonder how the census would be on the next one. Not to mention how will this affect Merit Points? Will you be compensated? This might or might not be a good thing, and frankly i feel its more of a buisness move to lure people back to FFXI since WoW is its next biggest contender, kinda funny how Return to VanaDiel is around the corner with this too.
EDIT: There might also be slobs in the game that look down on others reaching lvl 75 through this new system and think they are more l33t than you. Hopefully this wont turn into a Pre-Patch ONRY fest. =/

Wasn't met with much joy in my ls, at present the noobs from my noob days are currently at qufim/kazham. With this news it'll only be 3 or 5 years before they're lvl 75 war/whms, blm/drks and Drg/Drks.

Cutting down on a few hours of exp-ing per level isn't going to make that big of a difference.

Nonetheless people are already bitching about how theres going to be many higher leveled players and how the HNM scene will grow worst, not to mention they say of the lack of high leveled places to level up for merits.

No, it's not really fair to me or my two friends. We have high level jobs and we get no compensation for our time that we spent; at least, that's what they say. I don't really mind it, but I see where they're coming from and I don't think it should be like that, necessarily.

Agreed. And just what Wyllius said, most of in my LS really don't like the news. *_*

Ouch!

SE just wants the game to appeal to more people. If they make it slightly easier (I'm assuming the change won't be that significant) for people to get higher levels it'll bring back the community who said they didn't have the time to put the effort into working to get L75. It's all about the money, and the more people they can keep playing the game the more money they get. It's simple really.
Besides, you can benefit too, just level another damn job.

People complained that it took too long to reach level 75. SE reduces EXP TNL. People complain. I don't think exp is an issue at all. I just think people enjoy complaining.

SERIOUSLY.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
I for one, LOVE this change. At least now there's a possibility that I could hit 75 before I hit menopause.

An importer retranslated the JPN version of the annoucement and he deemed the english one lacking in information and omitting things...anyway this is what he posted:
The experience points ("EXP") required to attain the next level ("Next EXP") has been calculated to its necessity each time the level cap was raised, considering the influences that each of the raised levels has onto the world of Vana'diel. However, time has passed since the initial lift of the level-50 cap, and the final cap of 75 has been in place. Now that players are becoming more comfortable with merit points, the new way to enhance their characters, we believe it's time to reconsider such influences, and that the current Next EXP be changed.
Currently, variety of missions, quests, and BC battles are being provided with the wide range of targeted levels, and the influences of each levels are becoming smaller than ever. Therefore, the "slope" of the Next EXP that is drastically raised after reaching level 51 will be "smoothed," thus reducing the large amout of Next EXP. (Next EXP for 50 and lower will stay the same.)
The following factors will be affected by this change:
- EXP loss when KO'ed
- In case the currently accumulated EXP exceeds the new Next EXP
For level 25 and over, EXP lost when KO'ed is calculated as 8% of the Next EXP, with the maximum of 2,400. Accordingly, because of this change that reduces Next EXP, EXP lost due to KO will also be reduced in many level ranges.
If the currently accumulated EXP exceeds the new Next EXP, it will be converted to Next EXP - 1 (in other words, levels with 1 EXP). Therefore, you will be able to level up as soon as the update is complete.
Further details such as by how much Next EXP will be reduced will be announced on the day of the update.

now, 2 important points to go over;
1. "the 'slope' of the Next EXP that is drastically raised after reaching level 51 will be 'smoothed,'"
english site completely omits this line. this somewhat reflects what Tythera provided, but my guess is that the slope will be even more "flat."
2. EXP loss when KO'ed
in english page, it's written as if the lost EXP would be calculated differently after the update, but looking at my translation, u know that's not true. lost EXP is already calculated as 8% of the Next EXP after 25, and its max is already 2,400. what's affected, is the amount of lost EXP due of the reduced Next EXP, because it's based on it.
hope this helps.

Yeah, well I don't really mind.
I'm not whining, actually it'll be great as getting now ninja and warrior up wont take so damn long. but I myself have done nearly 100k experience points "for nothing" because of this change. Would've been nice if SE would've compensated people somehow...like us lv 75 people with merrit points. I could boost STR and many other abilities with merrit poitns worth of 100k exp. =O But yeah, at least I can say I earned my lv 75 'hard way' or something like that. XD
