Do I really have to complete this mini game? Will I still have a 100% completion even if I skip this one??

and about the story completion, It's my first time playing the game and I really want to get 100%. I gave the sphere to the youth league w/c made it possible for me to complete the story. Im now in Chapter 3, i'll just have to finish Ixion, but still at 46%. Is that normal?

I think you do have to complete it to get 100% but am not sure, personally I hated trying to do that mini game, got to tower 10 and gave up.

You can get 100% without completing the side-quest. You just have to attempt to calibrate them all in order to get rewarded. I'm not sure if this even contributes anything to your completion percentage.

You do NOT have to complete this sidequest in order to get 100%. You don't even have to attempt to, but if you attempt all of the towers and talk to the Al Bhed guy at the travel agency, you get the Samurai's Honor Garment Grid.

Also, if you're about to go into chapter 4, with 46%, you're kinda behind. Have you visited all of the other areas in chapter 3 already?
