Well... it's not like you have to use the option. It's a nice feature for those of us who like to.

Except they shouldn't give the option in games with VAing. Anyone remember the avoidance tragedy and awkward dialogue of FFX? Usually Sqaure's names fit, but an occasionaly change up can be fun, and give the RPG a bit of freshness- a new feel if you will.

As for FFTA, I left the default for my first playthrough, and on subsequent playthroughs I've always named him Phineas.

I named him Masao once, and Marche another time... can't remember which one I did first. I remember changing the clan name to "Slayers" for some absurd reason the first time I played and leaving it as "Nutsy" the second time.
