I went out yesterday, and put on about 4 layers of SPF 80 sunscreen. But I ended up with my shoulders going bright red!
It hurts so much, this sunburn. Does anyone know of any 'natural' ways to cool it since they don't sell Aloe Vera in China?

To give this topic a topic, do you take any medicines, have you had bad experience with them, and do you beleive in Western medicine or Chinese medicine?

Honey is a good way to treat burns. I know it works well for friction or heat burns; I'm not sure if it's effective for sunburn... but it's worth a try. Just cover the burn area with a thin layer of honey and apply a bandage. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I use medication every day, to control asthma and hayfever. Natural remedies are good, but only if they've been proven effective.

Natural ways to cool it... Pretend it isnt there. Or tell yourself that pain is only a feeling. It seriously works, to a degree. You could also go to sleep. Not only will you not feel it when you are sleeping, but I assume that the act of sleeping will cause the sunburn to heal faster. Maybe.

I'd like to sleep, but I might roll over onto the carpet.
I had to sleep in an odd position last night in order to not let the sunburns touch the carpet. Ouch.
Currently I'm trying the honey idea. I can feel it absorbing the heat already, much to my comfort. Thanks, Big D!

I've had plenty of bad experiences with anti-depressants. :(

Western medicine or Chinese medicine? What are those? (I'm dumb)

i don't take medicine, even when sick. Just tough it out.

I laid out for hours recently, i didn't get burned that bad at all.

I thought this was going to be a birthday thread or something :p.

Hopefully the honey works. I'd say "wear sunscreen next time!", but you did...maybe reapply it more often, and put it on a few minutes before you go outside?

I haven't had a bad burn for a couple of years, and I don't really remember doing anything about it...maybe keeping out of the sun for a day or two as well might help?

Good idea, since I'm locked in my house. I've got really senstive skin, so I burn by standing under lamps. Certain kinds, actually. Like this odd heating fan lamp thing I had. I woke up and one side of me was brown.

Some people can't sleep when they're badly burned, because cotton acts like sandpaper every time they roll over... some kind of balm is usually a good idea.

I'm not an expert on burns, I rarely wear sunscreen and if I DO get burned it generally isn't too bad.

As far as medication, I try to stay away from it as much as I can, but I do take something for my acne and usually take some allergy medicine as well.

I've never experienced sunburn, so I can't really sympathise with you. I'm fairly dark-skinned already (even though I am British), so I tan very easily and never burn.

Luck luck in finding your medicine.

It's really a shame you cant get aloe vera. I have a tub of the stuff, I just used some on the burn I got at the Angels game. It's heavenly.

When I got sunburned as a kid, my mom would have me take a tea bath. She'd put packets of tea (Lipton iced tea packets I believe, I really dont know if there's any difference with other stuff, so long as it isnt black tea or green tea or whatever) in the water and I'd soak. It really does help.

Okay Snake, you're burnt. If you wanna treat burns, you have to press START, and go into the survival viewer. Select the CURE function. Then press R2 and select Ointment and Bandages. You should be fully healed in no time.

Take a cold shower and then put a cold compress on the sunburn. That usually helps :)

I've said it in another post... Vitamin E capsules... cut one open and put it on the burn. It dosn't cool it down, but it heals it in a couple of hours.

A homeopathic way of healing sunburns would be to rinse the affected area under reasonably hot water. Yes I know it sounds crazy, and since its homeopathy its not scientifically proven, but I can tell you it works! For me anyway. same goes for fire burns and oven burns etc. Place it under quite hot water for a very short time. It will hurt for a short time, but will increase healing time by a lot.

There's a difference between medicine in the U.S. and medicine in China other than the characters on the label? Shows what I know.

I take medicine when I feel it'll help me feel better. I prefer to not take it though and let my body do it's job naturally. And when I get a sunburn I prefer to use aloe vera cactus leaves rather than the bottled stuff. Then again, I haven't spend a significant amount of time out in the sun in years so I don't worry about it.

I tried the honey, but it made me rash.
And the hot water made about 100 little blisters appear, and now I'm bleeding.
