FF VII Question.

A while ago I was involved in a little Final Fantasy quiz, and I was going perfectly until this little doozer popped up:

Who is 'The Hand' In FFVII?

I am quite a seasoned FF player, and have never even heard of this. Does anybody know?

It's referring to the ending I believe, where a hand reaches out to Cloud. It should be Aerith. I don't know, I havn't seen the ending for like ever, but other places say it's Aerith, I'm gonna believe them.

Cloud sees it as Aeris's hand at first, but it's really Tifa's reaching down to pull him back up...

When I was asked the question I was under the impression that it meant a character was known as 'The Hand', maybe a Shinra representative or something, but now I understand.
Tricky little bugger he was.
