Firstly, I'm not here to moan. Just offer possible suggestions.
When in a discussion that one feels strongly about, you are bound, at times, to get heated and say things you may regret. I believe that maybe a deletion & warning should suffice & not an instant no warning ban. Pretty soon you will have everyone banned bar the staff, those whose opinions mirror the staff's 100% and those people who can use religion & God as a defence to their otherwise obscene remarks.
You banned Sasquatch for what appeared to be a slightly mediocre reason (reading the quotes here). Once you done that you set a precedent that you felt compelled to stick by for fear of lop-sidedness, so you banned DMKA.
My comments that led to a ban, were by no means innocent, but were a response. A response to a comment a user made, then complained. He stayed, as it was his 'faith' to believe it. I was banned as it was my 'opnion'.
Whilst I agree these forums need to be moderated the most, you also need to realise that out of ALL the forums, EotW & EoEo are the ones that will create the strongest views, strongest oppositions & most heated disagreements. It should thus be the one forum where flaming, while not condoned, should treated in a case-by-case basis. If a modification of a post suffices, then modify it.
To quote a member of staff
"Moderators are not immune from the forces of provocation; however, I could simply have got another moderator to deal with this matter, or waited until the feelings of hurt and anger had subsided.
Well neither are we. We reply with a heated remark, you ban people. I'm not saying what you did was in any way wrong, as I know not the history, I'm pointing out the similarities in reactions & the disproportionate consequences of those actions.
