Thats what made it so great. He was so happy with rinoa that he was actually smiling. When Squal is SMILING you KNOW that's a happy ending.

and TRL (as I shall refer to you if you allow me?) I really dont think there are any clips where he smiles, he really just doesn't. SO FAR. Wait till the film comes out and I'm sure you'll get something, otherwise, like I said, go through some clips and try and freeze-frame something.

EDIT - And yes, Squall smiling at the end was abit 'What??!' - though I found it quite welcome, it was nice to see he could actually manage a smile. Still....

I'm sure there is a pic of cloud from the game smiling. When they are going through the Nibelheim flashback in Kalm the caption is different. Rather than looking away and distant he is looking forward and has an optimistic smile on his face.

Don't quote me on this, I haven't played the game in ages. Check it out if you get the chance, it may be the smile you were looking for.

This, my friends, is the only real picture I know of Cloud smiling. I'm just adding it to prove the picture above this post, as well. As Cloud fights Kadaj, the whole team shows up in an airship, and Vincent (I believe) convinces them to stay out of the fight. Cloud's happy they understand, because --he knows Kadaj is a vessel which Sephiroth will put to use, and soon--

I'm convinced he is smiling because his lip curls after he lands beside his sword and pulls it from the Shin-ra building.
