I don't know, but that's a likely guess. I figure humans were making "music" before we were human. Many primates, especially the great apes, are quite fond of making music. So, monkeys invented it, and we improved it.

There's noise, and then there's the perverted sense of enjoyment or suffering that humans receive while hearing them.

Edit: Maybe I shouldn't be so unkind. Look, you'll learn so much about this stuff when you start taking humanities courses that you'll never even want to know. You'll gain an interest in math and nearly come to the point of becoming an accountant!
