i used to think it was ok, but then i realized it really sucks. the frickin fights go on wayyyy to frickin long, dragon ball z style. also, the ninjas are like, the most retarded ninjas ever. there not even ninjas. there just guys who are strong with 1 signature ability that like kills everything. its so dumb.

It's... amusing. Although I agree it does get rather Dragon Ballish at times. And no, they aren't Ninja. I do read the manga and I would watch the series, but it's hardly the best.

>>> Naruto isnt the best anime ever but the manga is well done.
And is very obvious they ARE Ninjas, I mean just read the manga or watch the anime. There are plenty of ninjutsu techniques there.

>>> Kudos to Masashi Kishimoto for creating such fascinating world and story..

One of the wierd things about Naruto is that they're no definitive time period and technology mark. They've got toilets and I'm pretty sure they have television, but they use a lot of primitive tools and structures and the like. It's interesting.

Not bad for a blatant copy of Dragonball.

i think its really good, although i wish there would only be one studio doing the fight scenes. sometimes one studio does them where they downgrade the art but upgrade the animation therefore creating much more fluent fight scenes, but sometimes when they recycle the past 20 episodes with flashbacks and dont actually get anywhere with fighting they downgrade the animation and upgrade the art. I like it a lot more with better animation.

Although the author did mention that some of the inspiration came from DBZ, it is still quite different, and i can definitely say that after watching the current 133 episodes. The fights are much better, it is not quite as repetitive, the script and story actually make sense a lot of the time, they did not give them cheesy american voice-actors, the drawing is a hundred times better and so is the animation, they do sometimes do some clever little tricks that make you think "ok maybe ill call the ninja just this one time" even though they are nothing like ninja as "the way of the ninja" is not one-on-one fighting, and also, you dont feel like kicking yourself out of embarassement while watching it compared to DBZ. But it is not without its faults of course. I also love all the chinese and japanese mythology in it, compared to DBZ which only had "the dragon", not even sure if that comes in any chinese mythology but hey.

Im still looking for an anime that has brilliant but not over the top fighting with excellent animation, so you dont get the feeling that anything is possible in a minute like with DBZ, and that is genuinely clever and provocative (kinda like Jackie Chan's old way of fighting, brilliant but not over the top so you can still see whats going on and be awe-inspired by his quick reactions and choices of combat).

I understand hating long fights (I do, too, though I don't like them too short either), but comparing them to the monotony of DBZ's fights is, well, laughable. I'd say check out the most recent episode, which burns through about three chapters of manga fighting. It's fast, and the animation is really quite good.

Naruto is based on a Shonen manga, and it's definitely not as hardcore as the more adult-themed animes around, but what draws me to Naruto is the universe and all the 'ninja', and the way they're ranked and continually get stronger over time through the development of new jutsu and such.

For the record, I don't like DBZ (anime). At all.

I love Naruto, definetely my favorite manga. In fact, I just bought the graphic novel 5 and 6 today. As for anime, I haven't seen it yet, but I'd probably say it's the best anime as well.

I wanna see the anime!

It isn't my FAVORITE favorite, but its far from rock bottom. That would be Vision of Escaflowne (Manga) *Shudders* They killed that one...

Naruto is good i say, lets just say its where everything people would ask for in Dragon Ball and make it much better. I still love Kakashi and his porn book and there are just things in this anime that sticks out to you more than weak Dragon Ball IMO. Play the fighting game, it rocks. o_o

Dragonball is based on "Journey to the west."
The Super Saiyan is also quite prominant in most world mythology, stories of a golden warrior, stuff like that.

I agree but i believe One Piece does that far better.

I've never seen it, but I can't honestly understand the hype around it and Full Metal Alchemist. Neither looks that great to me.

Have you even watched both Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist all the way yet? Maybe not Naruto all the way but definetly FMA. Seriously you dont watch everything and then judge it by the first few episodes >_> Well alot do anyway, and most people know anime starts out slowly most of the time like RPGs.

I like Naruto...
I like the characters. All of them except maybe Sasuke, Chouji, Temari and Kabuto (sp?).

But seriously. I really don't like Sasuke. The one reason I hate Itachi is because he didn't kill Sasuke.

Anyways, Naruto is probably my favorite Anime at the moment.

The only character I don't like is Sasuke. He thinks he's all *that*, but he's just a punk.

On the other hand, Naruto, Jiraya, Rock Lee, Gai, and Gaara are the best characters of Naruto in my opinion. Some of the others are okay, but I don't really like them.

It's above average, but far from the best I've seen. What annoys me the most is the ridicously drawn out fights and frequent flashbacks, but all animes have those when they have way too many episodes and not enough storyline. Not saying the story sucks, just that there isn't enough of it to justify 150+ episodes (and I expect it to get atleast 300 episodes long). If they had proceeded at a "normal" tempo, they would have caught up with the manga though, and I can see them not wanting that.
Oh, and fanboys are also annoying.

I always found it to be overrated, to be honest. It's also kind of creepy. Have you seen people cosplay Naruto? That's like, bottom of the barrel nerdage. At a convention, I saw a klingon (sp? the angry guys with wrinkley foreheads) make fun of a Naruto cosplayer in klingon.

Rumiko Takashi had already done a lot of stuff in it in Ranma 1/2.

Well, look at it this way. At least the fights aren't DBZ style (punch/kick frenzy, two episodes of talking, fireballs, BIGGER fireballs, punch/kick frenzy, everyone dies, and yada yada). The fights are pretty involving, IMO.

The flashbacks are kinda justified; you have to go back into the past sometimes to proceed to the future. With all the episodes, don't you think they'd kinda have to have flashbacks to remind the fans of what happened before :P But I'll admit they DO overdo it sometimes, especially when flashbacks aren't even needed O_o;;

I'm no fanboy of the series (my favorite anime is probably Ranma 1/2, and even then, I'm not a fanboy of it), just pointing out some stuff. Keep in mind I'm far from an expert on the series; however, I've seen enough of it to draw my own conclusions.

And yeah, I hate Sasuke too, as well as Gaara. Sasuke's attacks, though, particularly the Shishirendan, is pretty cool, though, and about the only thing I like about him.

I agree with most of this. It's not anything spectacular or great, but neither would I immediately regulate this anime to the trashbin. It's better than DBZ, but it takes too many pages from it with the drawn out fights and talks. The story, though, is there and it is plenty enough for at least 100 episodes. I do agree that there is too much filler, between the fights, the stupid story arcs that are happening in the anime now, and the flashbacks. Another thing I hate? The last little arc, with Mizuki, was lame. Naruto has shown so much more skill and ability previous to that arc and the fights in there are pathetic.

It should be noted that the anime is doing all these dumb arcs so that the manga can get ahead; yes, it almost caught up, and that's a bad thing. Not that I want to deprive the anime fans, but if Mashashi Kishimoto's not ahead with the manga, the anime's lacking a story to follow. So it can't catch up. Nyah.

The manga is definitely superior. You don't see all the lovely action in motion, but you don't have to put up with so much crap. Besides that, manga readers got the Kakashi gaiden (which may or may not show up in the anime), the story is not always going off on a tangent, and the information is presented more clearly.

By the way, the stateside stuff's going to suck. They can't even say Naruto's name correctly, for chrissakes. And what's with the apprentice and journyman stuff? Just use the terms that are already there; it sounds better and it isn't confusing unless you're two. /ragereagetirade
