Why do so many people dislike golf?

People who are bad at golf don't like it because it takes so long to finish each hole. Trust me, once you can get to the green in 2 to 3 shots, it takes way less time and is much easier to play 18 holes. It seems less like work, the quicker each hole goes.

Watching golf on television is pretty awful, except for the climactic 18th hole moments.

Tiger Woods has a golf monopoly, and I'm just waiting for some no-name PGA player to finally snap and attack Mr. Woods on live television.

Golf is actually very fun, it's just that some people are incapable of concentrating on one thing for a few hours, so they knock it.

Playing golf is very nice and relaxing, especially on a hot day. I just hate watching it though. People who think golf is boring should try sleeping.

i like golf. its a great social game. if it doesnt take you ages to get round the course, as Caspian said.

I've heard it said that bowling is more popular than golf in the U.S., but they don't televise bowling tournaments as much because programming executives play a lot of golf, so that's what they want to watch.

It doesn't help that a stereotype about golf is that you need a lot of disposable income to play.
