A friend of mine once told me that he didn't like the final fantasy series because he hated having to play the game just to see the amazing animation sequences...

I understood his arguement but felt that he hadn't played enough FF to make that judgement... as we FF fanatics know there is so much more to this series than the animation... I cant remember how many times I've played IV and VI all the way through... or how much time I spent playing the VII mini-games or VIII's triple triad...

But Final Fantasy X just plan sucked... So many times in that game I was just holding the controller and watching the animation sequences... which held not interest to me... the story was not at all engaging...

It was FFX and Metal Gear Solid 2 (another lame game) that made me realize that I had no interest in console gaming any longer... the AI was to easy to fool... Since giving my PS2 to a friend for a large bag of green I have been playing online player versus player games exclusively... first star wars galaxies and now guild wars... I haven't had a chance to play XI the online game but from what I understand there isn't any real pvp in that game... and with XII on the horizon I really cant say what I am going to do...

The Final Fantasy series has afforded me years of gaming pleasure... but FFX really made me tune out... that game blew... I want to keep on living in a fantastic world full of dragoons and chocobos but I want to PLAY in this world rather than watch it...

Am I the only one that feels this way?

FFX turned me off too. But I had no problem with the sequences. Well... I did, but their frequency wasn't it. It just seemed freaky that with today's technology they can make the character models fairly realistic. They can make them look how they want. And their models are quasi-western. Or in the very least very anime-esque. Yet in the cut-scenes they had a very distinct (and understandable) asian look to them. Not that I mind them finally making characters look like themselves. It just bugged me that the cg-renders, and in-game characters looked so completely different. At least in FF7 the high-quality cg renders were just a more advanced interpretation of the characters looks. Progress. Not an alteration. 'Cause I know if they wanted to, they could have made the in-game models look asian too. But this is way off topic.

More on topic, I have also been turned off by console games. But I don't blame anything in particular. Especially not FFX. Poor FFX hit me at a bad time anyway. I was at a point where I didn't feel like bothering to finish any games as it was. Then this game comes along and it's great, yet horrible. Tidus was such a weeny and Yuna was so bland and lifeless. Rikku was the ONLY reason I liked that game, and waited with anticipation for the next cute scene she'd portray...

So... completely different reasons and circumstances. But no, you're not alone.

I loved X. Plain and simple. I though the story was wonderful and the characters were very realistic.

Though I hope you were exagerrating with the 'sold your PS2' bit, because that's way overboard, especially considering that there's a lot of RPGs for the PS2.

Don't make two threads about the same thing (http://forums.eyesonff.com/showthread.php?t=61985). That, and you're wrong.
