So you're driving down a street and you see a bird sitting at the edge of the road. At the last possible moment the bird decides to not only fly at the last possible second, but it flies in the direct path of all oncoming cars! I can't count how many times I have seen that happen. Why do they do this? What is up with that?

I don't know. Another thing I don't know about birds is why they constantly feel the need to chirp and tweet. Being a bird must be great. What with all the tweeting and chirping, and the daily eating of worms, not to mention having weird old men look at you through binnoculars.

...actually that doesn't sound too different from my life as it is now.

That is really weird actually. I think it's a cult thing.

Most of the birds around here are pretty streetwise, I guess. They'll get out of your way pretty quick.

At a guess, it could have something to do with the fact that birds that have eyes on either side of their head rather than in front of their head are unable to figure out how far away objects are. That's something you needs two eyes in front of your head for, if I remember rightly.

Either that or they've been involved in some kind of suicide pact.

Or they're playing chicken. Or whatever it is that they call playing chicken.

I've never seena bird actually be hit by a car. Maybe the birds in your area are just stupid. Must be something in the water there. :D

Squirrels are just as lucky at times...although sometimes they are not fast enough. :p *mush*

Yeah, if it were monkeys they'd be able to get out of the way quicker. (but not from me because I'd speed up)

Yeah, if it were monkeys they'd be able to get out of the way quicker. (but not from me because I'd speed up) Nah cars actually try to avoid us for some reason so if I stand in the middle of the road it's the cars that swerve out of the way and go into ditches and blow up o_0

I like birds, please don't run them over. o_<

dead monkeys make cars dirty, dead birds decorate it, like trophies

They're breaking the codes! They're looking for reasons to gather together armies and troops of pooper pidgeons and snapping seagulls.

So this one time for like five or six years every winter this cardinal came to our house and would sit on the back of one of our porch rockers in front of our picture window and stare at itself and then try to attack itself for hours on end.

Every winter.

For FIVE years.

I hated that bird.

Do you notice them drop anything while the fly? Urbanised birds have learned that cars break things with hard shells & have been known to utilise that. They sit by the road, wait for a car & fly infront, drop the husk and move. Then return to eat the contents.

And birds chirp & tweet to communicate the same way we talk.

Birds were created for us to laugh at, hence their stupidity.

I love the way they bop their little heads as they walk. It's so cute.

Feathered freaks flapping fairly free through the air
Carelessly continue crapping on cars from out of nowhere
Do they have peripheral vision, does it matter if they do?
Cleverly they hop into a collision course just to prepare their food

The birds are all a twitter, how happy do seem their chirps
But perhaps a hidden agenda be the topic for these birds
Eh, who cares, these feathered freaks, let them stage a coup
I'll slice them in and roast them up and have them for dinner too!

my aunt told me that happened to her and her ex and company in wyoming. I just thinkthe birds are suicidal and fed up with life.BUt it reminds me of this part in this movie called "The Core" when a whole bunch of birds start crashing into stuff and dying.

ZOMG I <3 birds.

By far my favorite animals. Although some of them are pretty stupid, like the ones that fly in front of cars.
