Square Enix is extremely honored to have had the chance to provide you with this technical demonstration of what the Cell processor can bring to the PlayStation 3 and the world of gaming. We are committed to fully backing SCEI's new computer entertainment system and plans to bring the Final Fantasy series to the PS3 are just beyond the horizon.

Well, after hearing that all my favorite franchises are going to the PS3, I think I know which "next-gen" console I'm getting.

You might also want to check out this link (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/614/614692p1.html), which details that the FFVII opening scene was remade for the PS3 to show off what it can do (there will be no FFVII remake, though, sorry chaps).

No one is suprised by this, right? I mean, Squenix and Sony have both been a huge asset to each other, they've got no reason to change.

I'm not. I've figured since, oh, about the time the PS2 initially came out that FF13, 14, and 15 would be going on the PS3, along with possibly some side games (on the lines of Tactics or Crystal Chronicles).

13 may come out on the ps2 though, Sqaure doesn't like putting games on a system that just came out, though, it'll probably get delayed enough to be released long after the ps3 comes out... :riiight: I'm seriously not surprised at all though, if they said they'd be conutining the FF series on the X-box 360... THEN I'd be surpised.

No.... I'd be shocked! I really don't wanna buy on X-box 360... I might though, only if they have something I really wanna play on it though... I've never even touched on X-box, nor have I seen one in person. (Not that I remember anyway...) I was gonna buy one, but, I'm not gonna now.

So yeah... this isn't really surpising. At all.

I'm so sorry to report but Square is also backing X-box 360 The Story from 1up.com (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3140609)

No, I meant the actual series... like switching over to X-box 360 INSTEAD of ps3. I knew they're making stuff of X-box, I don't mind that. Actually, I might buy it so I can play the stuff they make.

At first, I thought they were only doing games for the 360 then I saw the PS3 press conference. The FFVII Tech Demo was great!

I doubt they'll release more than 2 main series entries on the PS3, given the amount of time games for these next-gen systems will take to develop. They might only release XIII and a few other non-numbered Final Fantasy titles, along with the usual original standalone games.

They've been right on par with 3 games per console so far...

Famicom - FFI-III
Super FC - FFIV-VI
Playstation - FFVII-IX
Playstation 2 - FFX-XII

I'd be suprised if they didn't keep that up. It takes about 5 years for a new console to come out, and Squenix is probably working on FFXIII for PS3 as we speak. Heck, it's probably even about 20% done by now. You'd be suprised how far along development goes before the title is even announced.

With a new console always comes new technology to make the games for it. I'm sure that even with the PS3's massive power, that they will be able to churn out three games. There is definitely some highly detailed stuff, but that ca be remedied by several techniques. There are physics engines which make things happen in 3D look realistic, and those are always improving. Plus there will be better software to help make generating complicated detail easier.. it's a science.

good to know that.

I don't care what console they work with frankly, but I would prefer they stick with Sony, so I can play all my FFs on one, single mega console. :D

It's safe to say they'll remain with Sony though...I don't see why they wouldn't.
