How do I know? Cause this arguement has happened before in the past with the PS2 and Gamecube, and the outcome gives me the impression that its going to happen again. And at least the last Nintendo console didnt have such a stupid name.

Nintendo's software will never rival Sonys. Never.
People are already saying the Controller will create a new direction in gaming, this could be true, but it dosent mean the controller will make gaming any more fun than it is now. While some are turned on by the controller, just as many are turned off. Some dont like the idea of being on your feet, jumping all over the place while playing a game. And if most of the games for the Wii will use the controllers special functions, then that will lose alot of casual gamers who like to traditionally lay back and play. You don't need to be on your feet to use the controller, nor do you have to jump or wave your arms around. The sensitivity has been reported as being perfectly balanced such that you can cover the whole length of the screen with a minor movement of your hand.

Well, in the Nintendo Controller trailer it dosent show people calmly sitting down playing. Say if you want to play a tennis game, Im sure people wont be able to just sit down and move there hand side to side slightly. In most modes of play, it all involves active movement. Im sure even moving your hand up and hand will hurt the wrist after a while.

Using a standard controller requires extensive usage of your fingers. People seem to get over that pretty easily.

In commericals for normal controlered games, you always people jumping around and freaking out. That's because it looks fun. People are going to be less likely to buy a game if it's just one fricking guy sitting down looking bored playing it, whether or not he's just moving his fingers or his whole wrist.
And the hurt thing? Come on, I get by playing games with a PC mouse pretty easily

Well, I think there should be two sides to an arguement. Sorry if im being pesimistic about the Wii, but its the insane optimism that the Wii is getting that makes me feel angry, why? Cause no one has even touched a controller yet.

The press was allowed to handle the controller and play demos of games at last year's Tokyo Game Show. That's where the reports of the controller's comfort originated.

Wrong. Nintendo has ALWAYS been the innovative one of the bunch.
Nintendo=Rumble pack
Nintendo=Wireless controller
Nintendo=Gameboys
Nintendo=Kongas
Nintendo=Joystick (home systems)
Nintendo=Stylus (DS)
PS: Nintendo fail??? you gotta be kidding me
As I've said countless times before Nintendo didn't invent those. Well apart from the 'Kongas' and I'm not too sure about the Rumble Pack.
Wireless controllers have been around for ages. I remember using one for the PS1.
The Gameboy wasn't the first handheld, or even the first handheld to use cartridges.
The joystick (I assume you meant analog stick) was done by Sega on the MegaDrive first (even if it is fairly rare and exclusive to Japan)
And stylus (Styli? What's the plural for that?) have been in use for years. I've even used my tablet to play games on my PC (not to much success however).
Nintendo didn't invent any of these but as mentioned before, they were the first to make them standard in their consoles.
That doesn't make Nintendo innovative. That's just marketing.
Before those consoles, Nintendo's only real competitor was Sega, who were selling an inferior product with only a marketing-devised image of "cool" to support them.
That's a good point, however Sony still had an amazing amount of market pentration very quickly. The N64 (The decision to use cartidges in particular.) played a very large role in that.

Jesus ****ing Christ, some of you need to admit that you are biased for/against Nintendo already.
For the record, I remember people around here saying that the DS would go the way of Game Gear...Hmmm...
And then there were people who said the PSP would be too expensive for consumers to get into...Hmmm...

Rather than continueing this 'oh so fun to read' arguement... of which I see major fact errors on both sides... -_-; I'm just going to say, Nintendo is still here today, after all this time, they know what they are doing, and they're still going strong.
On the topic of the name, the longer I've known about it, the more it seems to work for me... no, I'm not really going to say I like it... but I will say its going to work just fine for the console's name.
So anyway, Anyone heard about this?

Friday last week, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing, Reggie Fils-Aime made a special guest appearence in New York's Nintendo World store.
Answering countless questions in the store about the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii, nothing new was confirmed by Reggie. However, when asked about how a racing game would work with the Wii Controller, Reggie Fils-Aime revealed that Nintendo are currently in development of a racing game for the Wii, and they will be showing it off at E3.
"We're going to show off a racing game at E3 where you use the core controller in a very different way, that will answer all the questions about how you'll play a racing game." Reggie revealed to the audience.
So what kind of racer is in store for the Wii? A Mario Kart installment? Perhaps F-Zero? Or Excitebike? Maybe something completely new? Rest assured that Nintendo will reveal all details at the E3 expo.
Stay tuned to DSRevolution.com for more on this racer and all the coverage on the Nintendo news.

Well, Nintendo is actually making wise decisions now by staying in a specific market niche. Instead of developing amazingly powerful impressive hardware, they are building efficient and cost-effective systems that cater to specific parts of the gaming market.
I personally think that Nintendo would die if they went directly head to head in the overall gaming market with Sony and Microsoft. It's their specialization that is keeping them strong and afloat.
In the mean time, while Sony and MS throw large amounts of money into their consoles, Nintendo sits back and conserves its resources while picking up many of the specialty areas of the gaming market. It's a wise choice, if you ask me and one that will keep them in business.
What makes you think Nintendo would EVER lose to Microsoft??? man oh man, I can't believe people would ever THINK that.

People with opinions are douche bags ?
I had a wireless controller for my NES. ^_^
Anywho, Nintendo was the first company to mass produce it's own first party wireless controller, rather than some crappy MadCatz thing that'll break as soon as you push more than three buttons at once.
The analog stick was integral to the Nintendo 64's controller, whereas for other controllers previous, it was an alternative to a d-pad.
Vibrating controllers were another first hand idea from Nintendo, even though the Rumble Pak was kinda clunky.
The stylus working its way into the control scheme of a d-pad, four buttons, and shoulder buttons (another Nintendo first), was quite a unique and successful idea.
The way I look at it, Nintendo's got the market in the palm of their hands, Microsoft is keeping it's fanbase foaming at the mouth with the prospect of another Halo game, and Sony just seems like the kids who got stoned and forgot their research papers were due the next day, and seem unsure of whether or not they're going to pass and succeed, or go to summer school, and figure out what to do.
It's not blatant fanboyism, because I like the XB360 controller a lot, and the way they run their online service, and Sony's going to have a lot of the games I'll want to play. It just seems like Nintendo's going to come out swinging, and set the bar yet again.

On the April 4, 2006, NIBRIS released two screen-captures "based-on" Sadness. The two pictures were released to Revolution Report who could only confirm that the two pictures were not screen-captures from a Sadness film.
Sounds like promotional material. Considering that another picture showed a woman holding the Wii controller it's probably just to demonstrate how the game would work. Not to mention that those screenshots (if that's what they are) look better than most pre-rendered CG.
http://gameinformer.com/NR/rdonlyres/2262D07E-A232-4DD4-8296-0F3D39AAC998/9149/rayman.jpg looks more on par with what I've heard of it's capabilities.
Not that it really matters, they clearly stated that they want to move away from the graphic centric side of gaming. The graphics are obviously intended to come second after gameplay.

Thats funny, I was told the screenshots were part of a trailer for Sadness, which contains some live action shots of a woman playing the game, and scenes from the game.
Thus I'm just assuming that,
THIS is Live action:
http://media.revolution.ign.com/media/816/816122/img_3568837.html
And THIS is in-game:
http://media.revolution.ign.com/media/816/816122/img_3568839.html
Which would lead me to beleive that this too is in-game:
http://media.revolution.ign.com/media/816/816122/img_3569365.html
Otherwise this would be a very weird trailer, with no game play, just live action stuff O_o;... And I'm sure their trailer, which they might show at E3, will have game play in it.
I could be wrong... O_o... Its just, whats the point in releasing pictures like this, if they aren't from the game...

Today, in the Wii section of Nintendo's booth, a new, unannounced peripheral was shown off in a display case. Dubbed "The Zapper," the new addition to the Wii family is a casing that houses the Wii-mote and the analog joystick in a configuration that looks like a gun.
The purpose seems simple--instead of holding both attachments in one hand (the analog joystick controls movement and the Wii-mote controls aim), one hand can control both.
Old school gamers will recognize the Zapper name. In 1985, the Nintendo Entertainment System was sold with a light gun named the Zapper, which was used to shoot hapless ducks and snickering dogs in Duck Hunt.

Nice gun attachment. However, it seems to be 2 handed, as the trigger appears to be the B Button on the Wiimote, which is a bit far from the Gun Handle.
Actually ^_^ look a little closer at the pic... see that hole in the side of the gun? thats got the trigger in it! Its setup that way, so you can use one hand, and have your thumb on the joystick while your finger is near the trigger. I'm sure it will feel better than it looks though. XD Then again, u might still want 2 hands on the gun, just so you can push the other buttons on the controller... not really sure how that will work btw xD

hehe, I was just watching an interview with Reggie on G4... he loves the fan-given name Wiimote! XD
In an odd marketing move, Microsoft suggests people get their 360 as well as a Wii, rather than spending $600 on just 1 consoles (PS3).
http://revolution.ign.com/articles/707/707831p1.html
XD hey, at least they are being nice about it for now... guess they want to help Nintendo to get bigger, to get rid of Sony? XD
BTW, anyone else catch the comment in the Nintendo press conference, "Ask anyone if they've seen a movie, or listened to music, and you'll never find someone that hasn't done those things... but ask anyone if they've ever played video games, and chances are you'll find a lot that say no. Nintendo hopes to change this with Wii!"
I sure hope that changes soon! Interactive entertainment deserves just as much mindset for people as movies and music do! But as Nintendo has talked about, its the barriers like the controller, and the difficulty that needs to be changed. Nintendo's Wiimote does offer a simpler way to play, while still giving a lot of advantages to the 'hardcore' group.
Well if Nintendo wants to gain more players, their 'inclusion' plan will do the trick, long as they make the right moves (as they seem to be doin).

o.O... who said the controller wasn't wireless? *missed that O_o*
Of course its wireless!
If they are basing that on the fact that they had wires at E3... then hah... that was just a security feature, And also so they didn't have to recharge the controllers durring the middle of the day... or something like that.
Don't worry, Nintendo's controllers are confirmed wireless. (except for the wire between the Wiimote and the nunchaku.:p)
Also, if they were referring to the vconsole controller, thats just wired to the Wiimote as well, nothing else.
Technically, the release date hasn't been announced yet. Nintendo could launch in October, in my opinion, since they've done that in the past.
But they could also be waiting for Sony's release date, to be 'set in stone', so they can plan their release date around Sony's. lol

I'd imagine that at least the nunchaku attachment will be bundled, since it's so heavily integrated in a lot of games.
There's been no official announcements, however. None that I've heard, at least - someone else can confirm if they'd like.

I'm pretty sure that they've said, yes the nunchaku would be included with the system in box...
But in the most recent interview with Perrin Kaplan, she said that Nintendo is still unsure what exactly they will give us right out of the box.

Will this system finally be capable of playing DVDs?
Yes, but not exactly out of the box... its likely you'll have to buy a cheap usb dongle to plug into the back of the Wii... or just download a program off Nintendo's network service... or something.
Meh, with DVD players now like $30... its just not as important of a feature anymore.

Nintendo says Wii's price "will not exceed $250". The company plans to ship six million systems between fall and March 2007, along with seventeen million games.
Nintendo News: Nintendo Announces Wii Information, Worldwide Shipments
REDMOND, Wash., May 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Following its overwhelming debut at E3 2006, Nintendo today announced the current fiscal year unit shipment forecast for its new home game system, Wii(TM). Nintendo also confirmed that the price of the Wii system, which incorporates unique freehand control, will not exceed $250 in America, or 25,000 yen in Japan. The company plans to ship 6 million systems to retailers around the world between its launch in the fourth quarter of 2006 and the end of its fiscal year on March 31, 2007.
The projections are part of a full-year financial forecast that sees growth of 18 percent in sales globally, based on anticipated continuing strong demand for the Nintendo DS(TM) portable game system, as well as a successful launch for Wii.
The company also said it expects to sell 17 million Wii games in the period. Exact launch dates, identification of the launch library of titles and details on the unique Virtual Console aspect of Wii will be announced soon.
Daniel says: My guess is that Japan will get the system for 25,000 yen and the US will get it for $199.
David says: I believe that they are considering a package with two controllers and a pack-in game like Wii Sports. That would cost $249.99. The intention would be to make things simpler for non-gamers who would be wary of adding additional games and controllers. The alternative is to stick with a traditional bare-bones system with just one controller and no game for $199.99. I'm fairly certain they don't want two retail packages though, so they will have to choose one or the other.
Well, sounds great to me, especially if what David says is true for the 250 package...

Well well well... It's already sounding like a good price. I wonder if they are just waiting for the right time to announce it? Maybe they are saying it won't exceed $250 so that when they do announce the price, it will be cheaper, and we'll be all "OMGWOW!!!"
Of course, $250 is a good price to me. :rolleyes2 But I hope I get to actually use the controller before I buy it, just in case it actually stinks. :O

I was just thinking, it'll be interesting to watch people play the Wii at those demo stands in Target or wherever. But yeah, hopefully there will be ample opportunities to try out the controller, and if not, well, that's where friends who will buy it "no questions asked" come into play. :p

I wonder though... will the Wii offer a really exclusive experience? If developers just use the controller in ways that can be done already with normal controllers (Such as Excite Truck, using the remote as a Steering Wheel), the Wii might not have as much magic as we'd hoped. Of course, the controller itself really does offer a new experience. True, you could use an analog stick for excite truck, but a steering wheel really does offer a different experience. Or at least, I'd imagine it would.
I hope Target has demos. >_>

Found some interesting... leaks/rumors. Now remember they are just rumors at the moment.
Source:

Wii Rumors Abound
These were originally on Nintendo's forums but were quickly deleted.
-First off let me say that the full scope of the Wii controller details has yet to be revealed by PixArt and Nintendo. Although I cannot elaborate any further let me say that the Nintendo should show that the movement in 3D space will allow experiences outside of just the TV screen. And its not 3D projection related.
-The official launch date has yet to be set in stone but will indeed launch before Sony’s PS3.
-Ironically enough, the first game that will be shown to the public that demonstrates the full scope of Wii controller potential will be Dragonball Z Budokai 4.
-When Nintendo first showed the controller at Tokyo Game Show late 2005 they were very hesitant to show it full usage. I will allow one more clue to my finding that the Wii controller can function exactly as we all have seen demonstrated WITHOUT the sensor bar. So ask yourselves, why need a sensor bar?
-The sensor bar was in all actuality in no use at E3 2006. What is will allow hasn’t been shown yet.
-According to people who are working close to everyday events at Nintendo R&D, Nintendo Wii specifications were far and away developed solely for that machine.
-IBM and ATI have been working on Broadway and Hollywood for quite some time now. And according to many people Wii’s specs could go up or down at this point in the CPU/VPU departments. Apparently Nintendo has spent quite a lot of money having IBM and ATI fabricate many iterations of Broadway and Hollywood. Which range from a 3.4GHz-730MHz Broadway CPUs, and 1.2GHz-553MHz custom ATI/Nintendo Hollywood VPU. From what we hear Hollywood is key to the Wii’s power. The architecture is all about eliminating bottlenecks and maximizing performance, upgrade of the CPU with the slight downgrade of the graphics processor compliments this philosophy, striking a great balance for Wii. However, it was also indicated that since Hollywood is a truly extreme “Flipper II” and Broadway is a massively upgraded “Gekko II” at least in architecture. That early on Nintendo R&D took a good look at what GameCube did good and what it could have done better. It was mentioned that GameCube’s Flipper was an extremely powerful chip far more capable than even the Xbox’s. The Gekko design meant for balance, though was not able to support but about 50% of the ArtX’s Flipper’s power. This particular bottleneck has been ironed out allowing Broadway to fully complement Hollywood to its maximum potential and vise-versa. The initial estimates we got concerning final hardware spec was Broadway at around 1.5GHz and Hollywood at 555MHz.
-There is also word that Nintendo in private sessions has big plans for the Wii headset. Talk is, that Nintendo wants to lean away from having the headset only for online capability. They are wanting to go further. Having the headset of course include a microphone for use in games is a given. But there was also talk of a late to launch release of this “gyroscopic headset” that would be supported by the sensor bar as well. To sum up the theory we were privy to. The headset would be somewhat sensitive to movement that could be translated into the game. Such as if you get up and move to the right of your television something might correspond for that in the game. Such as dodging things, looking around corners etc. It was also mentioned that it might have a unique look and non-obstructive lightweight design.
-Our latest discovery concerning Wii software is that developer Nibris (Raid Over the River, Sadness) has received Wii development kits and has partnered with publisher Majesco.

There are a bunch of rumors on the Wii Release date. The biggest one right now being October 2nd, due to Nintendo saying that the release date might be encoded into their announcement of games coming out for their systems. Here's an article about it:
http://www.wii-play.com/nintendo_wii_news_view.asp?news_item=52
Nintendo updated their release list for the fourth quarter of this year. The list is ruled by DS games with only 1 GBA game and 1 GC game being released this year.
Fourth Quarter Release List:
Oct. 9: Clubhouse Games (DS)
Oct. 16: Nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends (DS)
Oct. 23: Magical Starsign (DS)
Oct. 30: Pokémon Ranger (DS)
Oct. 30: Children of Mana (DS)
Nov. 6: Elite Beat Agents (DS)
Nov. 6: Final Fantasy V Advance (GBA)
Nov. 13: Yoshi's Island 2 (DS)
Dec. 4: Custom Robo Arena (DS)
Dec. 4: Kirby: Squeak Squad (DS)
Note: The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GC) Will Be Released On The Same Date As The Wii In The Fourth Quarter Of This Year.
Nintendo did include this line at the end of their announcement:
"Perhaps the secret to the launch information for Wii is somehow encoded in the text of this news item."
Gaming Target Writes:
"The fourth quarter begins on October 1. Now look at the list. At least one game is released every Monday in the fourth quarter except for the following dates: October 2, November 20 and November 27.
November 27 is after Black Frida, so it's out of the possibilities. November 20 is after the launch of the PS3, so that's out, too. That leaves us with October 2. "
So Will The Wii Be Released On October 2nd? The release date seems to be too early according to some people, but since the wii is already in production, it is possible that Nintendo plans to get a headstart on the PS3.
We Can Hope To Find Out Soon...
