Tips for increasing my fishing skill?

So I've fished up a pair of cobalt jellyfish, a half dozen quus, two dozen bastore sardines, and a full metric ton of garbage, and yet my fishing skill remains somewhere below 1. Is it just a slow skill to increase, or is there something I should be doing (besides just fishing over and over) to increase it?

Grab a Carbon Rod and start fishing in Fresh Water with Insect Balls, these should take you to about 11 and they should sell decently. Then Sardines and Quus along with Yellow Globes later. That should take you to a minimal decent level ^^

I just wanna say that the sell price to NPC might be skewed on the site since the recent Fishing Patch that halved the NPC sell price.

Don't mind the NPC prices being low or anything - even though mostly what I've fished up is garbage, it's still sold for more than I've spent on bait and rods (which keep breaking ><).

I ono this guy got 90K an hour with a lvl 90 fishing skill..keep on trucking lol.
