The following contains spoilers:

Ok, so anyway we get to that point in the ending where it's really emotional and Laguna is kneeling infront of Raine's grave, just after the flashback of his proposal to her...

Anyway, then he turns and Ellone is walking down the hill and waving at him happily, and here, off in the distant background, we can see Laguna's buddies, Ward and Kiros:

Now, when I look at that, I'm wondering why the hell they've magically changed their clothes back to the ones they had in the last two dream flashbacks and look exactly as they did...Laguna is right there, older, and Ellone is right there, older...so why in the world have they somehow reverted back?

Is this a goof, or could it be an intentional side affect of time compression? I'm confused.

Let me be the first to say it is a goof. it cant be the time compression because that gets stopped after you defeat ultimecia. The only reason i can think of for them wearing theyre old army clothes is for old times sake realy.

My game must be messed up because it doesn't show Kiros or Ward. It just shows petals flying through the air as Ellone waves at Laguna.

And that Shake It Aeris thing is so WRONG!!

Actually it does show kiros and ward so next time you complete it look harder.

I think the "Shake It Aeris" thing is sorta funny.......in the sense of what DMKA did about it.
Yeah, I wondered about that, too.HOW DID THEY DO THAT??!!

well...how do you guys get changed into clothes? takes you what.....5 minutes?

and one more thing to state: it's a video game

one MORE thing to state: squaresoft (at that time) was too lazy to design new clothes for them...and i'm sure they got rid of their esther outfit when walking in a sunny open field

Well we dont know if they look 'exactly' as they did. We see them in the distant. All we know is that they're wearing the same clothes, or the same style of clothes. Maybe they just felt nostalgic?

They jut changed into there outdoor clothes, they havent chnged that much physically since the flashbacks. They were fully grown dults in the flashbacks anyway. If you saw a close up of them in fmv theyd probably have older features like Laguna but even Laguna had an FMV of him showing him when he was older and when he was younger so any differences there woukd seem more noticeable in the first place.

I never put much thought into it, but it is kind of wierd to think that after 17+ years, they are still wearing the same outfit.

Yeah that's my point. xD Especially being in such high positions in the most advanced, largest city in the world.

Wouldn't that give them the right to wear pretty much whatever they pleased? Is it wrong to think that they may not feel like wearing their official Esthar uniforms when they go to visit Raine's grave? Don't forget, Raine didn't exactly have the warmest feelings for Esthar in the world. They were responsible for killing Ellone's parents, and taking Ellone away from her, causing Laguna to run off and not be there when Squall was born and Raine died...

It's just wierd that after seventeen years, they still haven't bought new clothing. (And the old ones still look good as new! :p)

What about Squall, when you can change from casual clothes to school uniform to a seed uniform??!!

Why does it matter it's just a picture? Who honestly cares?

What I meant was that the characters default outfit usualy stays the same during the game. Squall does change to the seed uniform, Rinoa wears a dress on the concert etc, but their normall clothes stay the same.

No, you had to change to do the Exam at Dollet, you had to change to go to the SeeD celebration party thing, and you had to change back afterward...I'd hardly say that's not changing through the whole game.

And it's not just a picture, it's from the ending...plus, "who honestly cares" is a stupid question when someone cared enough to make a thread about it, and people care enough to keep discussing it. :D

Now you mention it,it may has to do something with time compression..Square didn't put Kiros and Ward there, with the same appearance like old times,accidentally..

rubah
05-21-2005, 06:41 PM
Yeah, being too lazy to make them new casual outfits isn't an accident, it's pressure of time/lazinessxD

That's from so far away that they probably just left those clothes the same so that you'd recognize them. I mean sure, you would probably still recognize them otherwise, but you'd actually have to really pay attention from how far away they are. Either that or just laziness. :p

holy crap, i played through this game 8 times and i dont ever remember seeing kiros and ward at the end.

I saw that scene the first tme I completed the game:p

For me, the answer's obvious - they wore their old outfits because it was more fitting. For one, nobody in the outside world had seen an Esthar citizen for decades, so they'd attract a lot of unwanted attention if they turned up in such exotic garb. Also, Esthar robes would make them look like cross-dressers, which also draws attention - something you don't really want when you're the unofficial escort for the head of state.
And another thing... perhaps nostalgia. Kiros, Ward and Laguna - off galavanting around the world again, just like old times. Reason enough to pull on your old threads.

Because they did the original 3d renders in uniform and couldn't be bothered to change them for such an inconsiquential scene.

Why does it matter? Well, were Final Fantasy nerds, thats why!

Personally, i think that those esthar robes are just like a big tent that cover everyday clothes, so they thought "dont wanna be stared at as we go visit someones grave" so pulled off their esthar robes revealing their normal clothes which they were wearing all the time. They might reek a bit but they could have many duplicates made of the same outfit, you never know, this is final FANTASY (emphasis on fantasy) so anything could happen! You never know, they could have just wanted to wear their old stuff just to be recognisable. *shrugs* the possibilities are endless

Dont you remember when Cloud changed into girls clothing in FF7, and Tifa and Aeris were wearing pretty dresses as well, or when they had to dress as soldiers on the boat when they were chasing Rufus cus the boat was carrying Jenova...
ok im going back to the ff7 forum .. im probably more at home there!

I think they were talking about permanent outfits.

People dress up several times, ff6 had it I think, ff7, ff8, and x-2 also.
