Body fluid excretion. Ew. Ew. Ew.

No. We don't really have anywhere here to do that. They (whoever they are) come into town once a year to get our blood, but I've never gone for some reason. Maybe next time. :cat:

Ok, we get it, but cutting yourself is not the topic of this thread.

I have given blood many times. It doesn't take long, and like Quina and Reno said you get free juice and cookies!

I've done a thorough physical and among the things I had to endure was watching me bleed about a pint of blood into a huge bag.

It was almost surreal watching blood flow out of your body like water...:o

And no, I haven't given blood. Unfortunately I'm either too damn lazy or actually busy to do it. I'd like to, meaning I'm not adversed to it, but bleh...

Rase
05-27-2005, 05:30 AM
I'm not legally allowed to at the moment. Maybe one day next in the next year or two. My school does Blood Drives about three time a year, so I'll probably give it a shot.

They have plenty of substitutes to use in hospitals that are actually much safer and much more effective than blood, so I don't feel guilty about not giving blood.

What's the legal age to give blood in the UK?

Anyway, the thought of giving blood makes me cringe, but when faced with the needle I'm not that bothered, however tempting as the Juice and Cookies are I don't think I will.

Chicks think I'm awesome when I give blood. A while ago, I came up with a theory, the more blood I give, the more babes I get. So, I keep going back in and changing my name and giving more blood. The downside of this is that I die.

My name is...something..?

I cannot donate blood because of a slight anemy that has troubled me for years. But I'm planning to donate my organs when I die (hoping I'll die in a way that lets me do so) and I would also like to donate bone marrow.

They have plenty of substitutes to use in hospitals that are actually much safer and much more effective than blood, so I don't feel guilty about not giving blood.Oh please tell everyone in the medical profession this well keep secret of hospitals. Do you really think that if there was a substitute that hospitals would still ask for people to give blood? You can give someone crystalloids (saline solution or something) to keep their blood volume at the right levels but crystalloids won’t be any use when you loss all your blood and it is the only thing circulating. Salts ability to carry oxygen to aerobic cells isn't exactly that great. Soon they would become hypoxic and then you would die if you don't get a blood transfusion.

Blood is in constant demand and there won’t be a substitute till they work out how to genetically manufacture it. Go and give blood now if you are of age.

I give blood to answer the question of the thread.

There was this bus that came to my college sometime last year that took blood donations. I was busy that day so I never go the chance to. Some doctors tell me I'm anaemic, though, so dunno if I'm allowed to.

I've given blood three or four times through drives held at my high school, and the needles are about the size of a pencil lead, so it doesn't take very long to get all the blood they need. After that, it's free donuts and juice.

A much better alternative to class: I win, patients win, everyone wins. I've got O- blood, so I like to share it.

Just put weights in your pockets or eat lots before you go, that'll fix the weight limit problem.

I've only given once, when we had a blood drive at my high school. I got a pink arm bandage! Woot!

I should go give regularily, but I'm lazy of course.

The only thing I did when I gave blood was fill out a form saying that I hadn't taken drugs in the last 2 weeks or so; that I wasn't ill; and that I had never had gay sex. Then they did a blood iron test (finger prick) and that was me ready.
It wasn't sore at all. I don't see why everyone is so scared of needles.
They usually make you wait 4 months before giving blood again but I am not sure if that is how long it takes you to replace it.

Normal weight requirement is 110lbs, but many people feel it should be raised to 120lbs.

And for the anemic among you, unless it's chronic, you can sometimes give blood. They take your iron count before you even start. My friend is normally anemic, but she's been able to give before.

I was allowed to give blood at age 16 and I'm quite a skinny person. :{ I give blood twice a year, though I'm allowed to give it every two months. You have to be 50kgs to give blood here.

War Angel

I have, and most likely keep on giving blood. It means a second of pain for me, and feeling a bit weak afterwards... but it saves lives, and there's nothing more important than that, which meand for me that all the inconvenience doesn't matter one bit.

Faris
05-28-2005, 03:06 PM
I'm not of age to give blood. Nor, have I needed to give any for medical stuff. I don't think that I will be, since I don't want to know the feeling of a needle in your arm and watching blood leaving your body! *shudders*

The Jamie Star Scenario
05-28-2005, 03:21 PM
Please use the edit button instead of double posting, Jaime.Sorry but I am pretty sure someone posted asking how long it takes for you to regenerate their blood after donating it. That or I was just hallucinating, again, sorry.

It is kind of depressing that less than half of people don't give blood :( But I understand that some of you are not of age so that is alright.

Meat Puppet

I sometimes pretend that when my blood is inside someone else, I am then part of them, and with practise, I can soon controul their entire being.

I've never given blood before, but I gave blood plasma regularly until February when I started working graveyard shift. It's left a permanant scar on my right arm. :\ Ahh well, though.

And I'm pretty sure it's 6 weeks in between blood donations. Twice a week for blood plasma, and no closer than (roughly) 48 hours apart.

I don't really see how someone could say 'no' to blood donation. I mean, yes, it hurts a bit, and yes, needles are a bit nasty... but damn, people are dying, and that blood can save them. How can you put minor inconvenience before human life?

The Jamie Star Scenario
05-29-2005, 12:12 AM
I totally agree with the above post. Even a tablespoon of blood can save a newborn childs life. If my blood can do that I am perfectly happy to have a needle in my arm (which you cannot even feel once it is in) for 5 minutes.

Sepho

I fear that iron test more than I fear giving the blood. That hurts!

Uh huh. The first time I gave blood, that prick on the finger had me all anxious for the actual needle, which turned out to hurt less.

That's more or less how I see it, too, though I'm not exactly passionate about it. I'm not terrified of needles, but I'm definitely not a big fan of 'em. Fact is, though, is it's only a short period of relatively minimal pain, and the payoff is more than worth it.
