Odd spacing in creating table tags

Yeah, so I was making a table in my sig, and in Preview Sig it keeps putting in a nasty gap between some text and the start of the table. Like, well, check it out.

The Gang are:

edit again: I changed it so the whole sig is a text table, i.e.
< table >< tr >< td >The Gang are:< /tr >
< tr >< td >< b >The Member< /b >< td >< b >Running for Ciddies< /b >< /tr >

Still spaced out, as you can see. Why?

Try putting everything on one line, vB is lame with tables and likes to spread them out with extra line breaks like that :p

In fact, it takes all the manual cr-lf (not made by the &lt;br> tag and puts them all above the table.
