I recently got a ROM (its the only way! If I could read Japanese I'd get the damn cart) of SO1 translated fully to english. When I played it I weas shocked to see how much Like SO2 it really was. I didnt think there would be the item customization and stuff. Sure i figured the battle system would be the same and the skills, but PAs and item customization. Even the in battle voicings!
Anyhow, As I've read, a lot of you played SO3, and many played SO2. How many of you have played the original SO? Also, Who made your team? I'm only part way through so please spoiler tag if you have anything that spoils (duh...).

I've played all the Star Ocean games, however I've only beaten Star Ocean 1, 2 and 3 (I'm still working on Star Ocean Blue Sphere which isn't that good anyway). Anyway, So1 is truly a fun game that is overlooked by many Star Ocean fans and therefore not played by many. Yet can really tell how similar it was to So2 and how by upgrading the game it practically IS So2.
So1 however has a few very odd flaws that the other Star Ocean games don't have...
First thing to notice about So1, is it's intro is horrendously boring. Sure, the intro is bad in all of them, but 10 minutes into the first game made me just want to play a different game. If however, you can go, say 2 hours into the game, then it gets way better.
The next thing you'll notice is that you CAN'T really move 'freely' in battles unlike in the other Star Ocean games. It is true that you can move, but in order to do this, it involves the use of a annoying slow cursor which makes moving take way longer. So don't be suprised if you find yourself only attacking (which moves you automatically to the enemy like in other Star Ocean games) and never using the pathetic move cursor option in battle (I actually set a button on my keyboard to auto attack so I'd just hold it down during battles)
Unfortently, because of this, it means there is very limited in battle strategy (not like all RPG players care about strategy though)
The next big problem with the game is all the glitches and bugs. there are sound glitches where the sound stops, and just a ton of other little small ones, however I will tell you this; save OFTEN and at different points and times during the game. Make a seperate state save before a dungeon because this game does and will freeze on you during certain parts, and if you screwed up one of your state saves and just happen to be at one of those parts you'll have to restart (My brother learned this the hard way.)
Other then those few things (which actually aren't too bad when you get used to them) this game is a naturally good SNES RPG. The team I used for the game was pathetically only two characters; Ratix Ferrance and Marvel Froozen. I would have used 4 characters, but the game gets really laggy for me when there are more character sprites on screen.
Other things that I noted about this game:
-It can be pretty short if you just rush through the game, but if you take your time and actually create good weapons/master skills and stuff then you should end up with 50+ hours (Typical SNES RPG play time)
-There is a lot of customization too like in So2 (not as much as in So2, but same concepts).
-I could be wrong on this point, but this game really isn't difficult. I say that I could be wrong because I was overtraining slightly throughout the game. I personally never died from anything besides being petrified (turned to stone)
-The music is really good. Don't be suprised if you find yourself tapping your fingers on the keyboard during the drum beats of certain songs
And yeah, that's all I really have to say about this game, so just play through it have fun, and if you have any questions feel free to ask me.

Okay, Heres a question... I know you'll ask why I dont want her, but.. I do NOT want Marvel. I have Ratix, Ashlay, Iria and Joshua. When I go into this town I automatically Ronixis and Marvel. This means I cant get either Tinek or Perisie, I want both. And since I have to get Milly (I want her anyhow, she rules) that leaves 1 space for a new character. Tinek OR Perisie.
I hear that Marvel dies later if you go to a certain place. If she dies, can I get both Tinek and Perisie?
