just a general question.

i've noticed that the forum with the most closed threads per thread is well...... this one.

is there any reason why this is? is it a problem? and is there a way to prevent it, like stricter regulations?

it was just point. *notes this thread will be closed just to spite him*

The reason is because it is the Feedback forum. It's something that just is.

No, it isn't. It wasn't at all like this a year ago. The reason why there are so many closed threads in this forum is that people want to be heard about their personal problems that have nothing to do with the board as a whole. So, instead up PMing a mod or admin about their problem or concern, they make a topic here, which gets closed sooner than later because it doesn't give any feedback.

Feedback is different from most forums because there are a lot of topics that have a definite resolution. When the problem has been solved we'd just as soon let the thread die, but a lot of people like to spam it up and get it closed. It's the whole give a mouse a cookie principle at work here. Quite interesting to see if you are a casual observer who doesn't really care about the aesthetics of the Feedback Forum (unfortunately I am not that).

I have never heard that analogy. Please explain.

Give a mouse a cookie and he'll ask for a glass of milk. Meaning, give people an inch and they'll take a mile. In this case, allowing a relaxed attitude in the Feedback Forum where people can make the occasional joke has caused them to post whatever garbage that first comes to mind, with no real regard to what it is they are actually saying. Rather than making veiled off color jokes that reference the topic, as a fun treat for every once in a while, people are now going off on tangents and holding conversations that really only hold value for those directly involved, in every thread, as if this were now the norm or even expected reaction. This is even more interesting given the fact that we all communicate through text, making it all the more easy to respect the rules and intent of the forum by editing or erasing your statements.

Goddamn you people, didn't your mothers ever read to you?My mum used to read me a story called Bears in Pairs. It had lots of bears. Like bears with spots and bears with dots, and bears with hearts and bears with tarts, and bears in planes and bears in trains, and there were tall bears and short bears, and there were hairy bears and scary bears. And it had pictures of all of the bears! The scary bear was dressed as a ghost :) Anyway, the end of the book said "Hurry bears! Hurry to..." "Emily's tea party!" And you see some girl with all the bears having a tea party. Greatest book ever.

My mother read to me every single night until I could read on my own.

EDIT: Oh I get it, you were referring to the book. Yeah, dorks. *includes self for not getting it*

Probably because newbies take serious issues being discussed and spam them up. It's because of this that no one took my smilie prune idea seriously. Stupid noobs.

Cloud No. 9: Feedback is more of a joke forum than anything, but it is fun ^_^ Occasionally a member (usually a newer member) will post something in here that he or she really thinks will help, and it will get dealt with, and then spammed up, and then closed, and then spammed up some more by mods, but mostly it's just the same older members posting random things that they find amusing here.

Also, my mum never read to me :(

*reads to Monkey*

Feedback threads get closed in a vile attempt of the Admins. to slowly get rid of the feedback thread forever. They secretly, or not so secretly, want this place gone so that they never have to fix anything. The boldest move they have made so far is removing it temporarily during the April Fools joke so as to slowly condition us for it's permanent removal. This may be far down the road, they are ever patient, but we're loosing our rights to feedback one at a time and before we know it they will be gone forever.

*Spam. Just the way Del Murder likes it*

so is this thread just turned into spam like all the other threads?

and it's gonna get closed isn't it?

i saw this coming.

i make a thread about why threads are getting closed to much. they say it's because of spam.

so what do they buggers do? they spam it and it will get closed.

well this just makes me angry.

it seems del you were right.

My post was the kind Del Murder was talking about. It is a veiled off color joke about the Admins wanting to close the Feedback forum. It blended in well with the topic, but at the heart was still spam. That kind of post is the kind that you can get away with. Your last post is more the type that gets threads closed.

Just for the record, Monkey and theundeadhero do not speak for Eyes on Final Fantasy. It just happens to be that he is actually right. Jojo was way off though, and it is that kind of thinking that keeps this forum ugly.

Jojo was way off though, and it is that kind of thinking that keeps this forum ugly. I'm sorry, that is not what I truly think. That post was made last night because I was frustrated at what I see to be your constant bitterness these days and allusion to how back in the day, spam was better. But I'm going off topic here, and I will say that yes, feedback threads are usually closed because of spam, and leave it at that ^^

People always want to ruin a good thing. Some people seem to enjoy this destruction. It's too bad.

People always want to ruin a good thing. Some people seem to enjoy this destruction. It's too bad.I don't think anyone has deliberately set out to destroy the Feedback forum. The way I see it, Feedback used to be where an idea was suggested, discussed, then a couple of the older members made jokes. Everyone else thought this was great, and wanted to join in by posting things they found amusing too. However, so many people want to do it these days that it's gone too far.

The problem with this is, Feedback can never be restored to the way it was previously. You can't exactly say "Oh, only Members X, Y and Z can make jokes here!" (well, theoretically you can but everyone else would still do it anyway) so either you allow everyone to do it or you prevent everyone from doing it.

Hahaha, I'm not a bitter oldbie, but I play one on TV. Ugly was such a strong word, and I only used it because I try not to use the word 'aesthetics' more than once a week.

In my ideal Feedback Forum only the people who know how to make good jokes would be able to do so, and that limits a good lot of you. But of course this is a selfish wish, and neither expect nor want people to change their ways based on my selfish wishes. I don't really explain myself very often because I figure you guys are smart enough to give me a little more credit than that, but this is my fault because I forget sometimes that there really are people in this world who are old and bitter and only care about what used to be, and I shouldn't expect everyone to have carefully read and analyzed the 9000 posts and 2000 journal entries that show you that it is silly to think I am one of them. Yet, I will continue to do so, because those who really matter will either know, or one day know. :)

Ideal aside, all I really expect is a Feedback Forum where people can actually discuss their question/concern for a while without people going off on tangents. Also, I expect a Feedback Forum that does not have multiple frivolous topics from members who know better. That's the biggest issue, really. Right now I think we are just a hair below that standard.

You elitists...

Really, all we need to do to "fix" Feedback is to get some members who know better to act like they know better. You know who you are.

I quite agree.

The aesthetics of Feedback are enhanced by lots of closed threads. Seriously.
