I asked this following question in chat, but no-one answered.

Is a burger a type of sandwich? or is it a type of food in its own right?

You could say it is its own type of food, because there are many different types of burger.

But then again, if one says that technically a sandwich is 2 or more pieces of bread with a filling, then technically a burger is a sandwich.

OR, is this merely a stupid case of pedanticism?????
...................................................Is that even a word?

:D

EDIT: oops, I forgot the obligatory ZOMGROFLMFAOBBQ!!!!111!!!!11!!oneone!

It could be both. Depends on what you wrap the patty around with, and where you buy it. *shrug*

I think here in the UK they actually call them sandwiches... even at McD's and stuff. I always found that weird.

Really? Oh yeah of course they do....the 'McChicken Sandwich'. I forgot about that one.

I got eaten by a burger once.
Some people are even called Burger; (Sex In The City SJP's boyfriend at one point, man I can't believe I know that).
I once got eaten by a burger. With Relish.

Strickly speaking he's Patrick Berger not Burger. Berger meaning 'of the mountain' as opposed to 'Burger' meaning 'of the town'.

On Sandwich;

<TABLE><TR><TD><b>sand·wich</b> &nbsp;&nbsp;<a href="https://secure.reference.com/premium/login.html?rd=2&u=http%3A%2F%2Fdictionary.reference.com%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dsandwich">http://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/AHD4/JPG/pron.jpg</a> <span style="display: none;">(</span><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 7pt; color: red; background-color: #ffffcc; border-style: solid; border-width: 1px;">&nbsp;P&nbsp;</span><span style="display: none;">)</span>&nbsp;&nbsp;<a title="Click for guide to symbols." onclick="ahdpop();return false;" href="/help/ahd4/pronkey.html" class="linksrc"><b>Pronunciation Key</b></a>&nbsp;&nbsp;(shttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/AHD4/GIF/abreve.gifndhttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/AHD4/GIF/prime.gifwhttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/AHD4/GIF/ibreve.gifch, shttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/AHD4/GIF/abreve.gifnhttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/AHD4/GIF/prime.gif-)<BR>
<I>n.</I> <OL><LI><OL TYPE="a"><LI TYPE="a">Two or more slices of bread with a filling such as meat or cheese placed between them.</LI>
<LI TYPE="a"> A partly split long or round roll containing a filling.</LI>
<LI TYPE="a"> One slice of bread covered with a filling.</LI>
</OL></LI>
<LI> Something resembling a sandwich.</LI></td></tr></table>

So yes, a burger is of the sandwich family. I believe the real question should be.

NOD WHY ON EARTH ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT THIS?

Im hungover, and eating a sandwich.
Thus I felt it was the perfect question for people to expound upon without being at all serious.

I am trying to think of questions that really MEAN something to me

XD haha.

Burgers are burgers, they are not sandwhiches.

Or they are, but shouldn't be referred to as such.
