In the past, I had always kind of passively listened to their singles, but ever since I've heard Feel Good Inc., I haven't been able to stop listening to them. They manage to pull off something special with the blending of all the different styles and the great characters.

So who's you favorite character? Song? Video?

A side note: I think it's funny how much the creators of the band (primarily Damon Albarn from The Verve and Jamie Helwett, the artist of Tank Girl) have managed to pull off so convincingly that the band members are real, breathing people, and that the videos are just avatars of the real people. I've been to sites where people are doing in-depth analyzations of their songs, quoting the "band members" from the official site, taking everything so very seriously...not realizing that it's just a very clever way of the creators to trick them. Regardless, the characters are very interesting and show quite a bit of personality in the videos, and even moreso if you visit their website, which is a highly interactive flash version of their "studio." Worth checking out.

*strangles Hsu*

DAMON ALBARN IS THE FRONTMAN FOR BLUR.

RICHARD ASHCROFT WAS THE FRONTMAN FOR THE VERVE.

SIMON TONG WAS THE GUITARIST FOR THE VERVE AND HAS RECENTLY BEEN THE TOURING GUITARIST FOR BLUR, SINCE THEIR OWN GUITARIST LEFT.

I was going to reply about the Gorillaz, but I have to go pick up the exploded pieces of my brain, instead.

Sorry, I don't know why but the two got mushed up in my brain. I kept wanting to say that the guy behind it was Richard Ashcroft until I fact-checked. Guess I didn't look close enough.

It's quite alright, I've recovered now, having remembered that some people have lives and don't have to live through their bands. Yes.

I'm morally opposed to the Gorillaz, but they are indeed catchy.

I like them. The music is good, but it's the animations with music that really does it for me. :)

Yeah, they're all right. From the two tracks that I've heard I like them. 'Clint Eastwood' & 'Feel Good Inc.' are the tracks I've heard. I've never really bothered to listen to any of their other tracks.

My favorite song is Dirty Harry, and as far as the albums go, I'd say they are pretty much as good, but Demon Days disappointed me: half of the songs I don't care about.
For the videos, I'd have to rewatch the DVD and then compare it to Feel Good and whatever new video they made since.

Demon Days > Self-Titled

Agreement, though the ending kind of throws me off. I realize it's supposed to be a change from the dank dark stuff earlier on but the church choir sound kind of throws me off.

I love that track. It's a cool story. I think it's Dennis Hopper that narrates it, and he does a good job of it.

I love the way they do the whole animation thing and how the videos are, and how all the animated band members have these detailed interesting backstories. The music is alright. I liked their first CD...haven't heard anything after that though.

Sorry. 2D is pwnage. I lost respect for Murdoc when he shook his half-naked butt in Feel Good Inc.

The Gorillaz are ok, you guys should listen to DELTRON3030, they are apart from the gorillaz and the kinda rap is almost the same flow. Except they talk alot about computers and the future!

Never really liked Gorillaz that much. Fair enough, Clint Eastwood was good, and Feel Good Inc. is catchy, but their self-titled album did nothing for me, and I can't be bothered to listen to Demon Days as a result. They're good characters, but I don't really think the music is good enough to back it up.

there a good band, and the way they make themselves come alive in cartoons is good, does any other band do that? A-Ha, The Magic Numbers and Bloc Party have included animated versions of themselves in videos, and I suppose you could include the Red Hot Chili Peppers' video to Californication if you wanted. But as far as I'm aware, Gorillaz are the only band to appear only in animated form.

Noodle used to be in Cibo Matto and yes, she's a japanese girl. If I recall correctly, she once was Sean Lennon's girlfriend. By the way, I like Gorillaz. They're great and their videos are awesome animation.

The rapper on Feel Good is De La Soul, although the rapper for the first album was Del Tha Funky Homosapien.

The new Gorillaz album hasn't really appealed to me enough for me to listen to it again and again. It's alright, but I don't find it amazing or anything. I still think their first album was a lot better.

I'm not a fan of their videos either. I don't know why, I just don't like them.

I've only heard Feel Good Inc. and I have to say I'm very impressed and interested. The animation is satisfying, the characters look interesting, the music (for that song at least) is diverse, entertaining, and catchy. I'd love to listen to more of their songs.

I've always been a big fan of the Gorillaz, but I didn't know Feel Good Inc. was sung by them until the other day. That's one thing I like about them, they're music rarely sounds like any of their other songs.

Maxico
07-19-2005, 02:29 AM
Thats because its rarely played by the people who played their other songs. Gorillaz isn't really a band, some of the characters may be loosly based on real people but the instruments they play are rarely played by the same people.

I've always liked their music. It's something different and innovative! ^_^ But "Clint Eastwood"...that song is god.
