So it has been repeatedly proven that the FF7 characters are some of the most indearing characters that have ever been played/loved/hated (whatever your response was). So the question is: Which character (playable or NPC) did you associate with most in the game and why?
Please no insainly simple answers to the why question (IE) "Cause he/she was cool". Though i know i'll get them anyway.... And as the title suggests im sure this has been asked before, but since I havent seen it its new to me. Hoping to hear some interesting, intertaining, and hilarious answers

Nanaki. Ok, Aeris' death made me shed a couple of tears the first time. On the 22nd play through, Nanaki seeing Seto and howling still made me cry like a baby. Everything about him is just awesome, he's intelligent and determined, and he's about the only character aside from Barret who we see with with genuine love for someone other than a main character. (Although Cid DOES love Shera, and I DO love Cid.) But Nanaki's affinity ith Buugenhaagen is wonderfully done, and he's oddly enough one of the most believable characters for me.

I thought Yuffie was a very believeable and endearing character. Her motivations are well developed and make sense. She provides comic relief as well as humanity, plus she is a strong character in battle.

Though Red is also a good chioce, though I felt more indearment to Yuffie then Red.

Honestly, I feel like I identify most with Aerith because she's a stubborn brat, but one a deeper level she's very warm and friendly. I think I'm like that. Maybe.
I like Nanaki best, though. He's super :)

I didn't relate to any of them.
I did relate to Squall in FFVIII.

Tifa, because of the way she must look at her love form afar for one reason or the other.

I have to say that I loved Yuffie's hyperactive character, the way she was devious and yet was attached to her friends a lot more than she realised. I like to think I'm a lot like Tifa because she stands for her own principles and appears to be confident but deep down she finds it hard to express herself sometimes, e.g. the way she feels for cloud. although I like vincents mysteriousness too.
And Aeris had cool hair hahahah
Cid and his affinity for believing in science, rather than magic, but eventually accepting the latter, appeals to me. Also, his second chance at reviving a lost dream greatly appeals to me too.

I loved cid....at the start when you first meet him...hes that unusually cruel hard man type...but as you go through the game...you start seeing his softer side...and he even provides some of the games most inspiring talks, plus the fact hes a spear weilding, cursing, smoking, ass kicking SOB.....who hates the shinra and loves his rocket.....
EDIT : cid would be an apt comparison to myself...

Vincent, by far. The mysterious one always feeling guilty about something he may or may not have been able to change, and the intelligent one who can change into a monster if need be. His dark hair and pale skin resemble me a bit, also.

I understood Yuffie, because she's like any other wild child, and I act exactly like her sometimes.
I also understood Cid, because he has such big dreams, and so do I.
Cid, and Sephiroth.. They believe in themselves and very proud, moreover, they are willing to do anything to achieve their goals..
Cid, curses a lot and I like that :D and he's strong in battles, he, Cload and Cait Sith are my main party..
Sephiroth, is so determined and filled with pride, the way he talks to everyone the way he discremenate them, is just evil and cool.. He acts ad if everybody else is worthless and I admired that..

Though its not great mystery i suppose , why do you think no one has said cait sith?
Because cait sith was a devious backstabbing arse with no real character development
You could argue that Yuffie was a backstabber but she stole for herself, cait sith betrayed the group for the greater evil (ShinRa) and no-one wants to identify with that kind of person. Plus Yuffie's fun loving, everyone wants to be the funloving person in a group.

While i wont argue the "backstabber" comment, I would suggest that, to say you identified with him would be saying you identified with his controller. Aside from his actions can you understand his reasons for doing so?

I can easily see anyone that has ever felt guilty and tried to make up for it being able to identify with Reeve. He had character development, and it was that he sought redemption. This is made fairly clear in-game:
Cait Sith
"...Alright, yes, I am a Shinra employee."
"But we're not entirely enemies."
"...Something bothers me. I think it's your way of life."
"You don't get paid. You don't get praised. Yet, you still risk
your lives and continue on your journey. Seeing that makes me..."
Cait Sith
"It just makes me think about my life. I don't think I'd feel too
good if things ended the way they are now."
He was always shown to have a conscience, as he didn't want Sector 7 crushed, but he didn't actually do anything to stop it and he doubtless felt guilty about this, and probably for all the years he had given Shin-Ra in the first place.
He later ensures that everyone in Midgar is evacuated into the Slums as Meteor bears down on the city.
I know this is a bit off-topic, but along with Tifa, Reeve is my favorite character in the game. I adore the repentant villains and villain-types who seek redemption.

None of the FF7 characters had enough personality for me to relate to, IMO.. But, I'd say I'll prolly be alot like Cid ten-twenty years from now. Cranky as hell and cursing up a storm.. Oh wait, that's not too different from now. xD
Id say Cid, hes just like me in a lot of ways.
Wow thats a gud question! i neva thought the characters like that... *thinks*.....
I think id most like to be like Tifa because shes so nice and selfless, plus she can look after herself... but im probably more like Aeris if im honest

I have to say I like Sephiroth. I had the feeling that he didn't think he was evil, he was just torn up inside. And I'm sorry, I know you don't want me to say this but he is just also so cool. :D It seemed like he was also riding on the proverbial train that everyone else was on and couldn't get off.

I thought that I most related to those two ShinRa soldiers... The ones in the very first fight, because i'm usually in the wrong place at the wrong time, and if I became a soldier that would probably be what would happen to me.

Yuffie. i didn't really like her at first, but i chose to use her avi/sig and emulate her ways here 'cuz i already have some things in relations to her (talk real loudly at home/aggression), and then those habits became somewhat engrafted into my own personality. actually, though she is now older and much less nerve-wracking, i am the doppelganger of her old, undying nature...with many personality twists and turns. yea, go figure. hm, guess i could say i represent the "Yin" side of her :fpdev: .
you are right about tifa... she took care of the whole avalanche, and cloud... oooohhh btw... why aren't they together in advent children?

Lol, Don Corneo's probably the best person to be, for obvious reasons.
I also find Cid someone to admire, for reasons stated earlier. For that, I find him a more interesting and believable character than the recalcitrant Yuffie or the mysterious Vincent xD
If I were to identify with a character, I'd have to go with Reeve, for exactly the same reasons that Squall of Seed mentioned earlier in the thread. He described it well, but that means I can't use any words myself to back up my opinion ;)
Mind you, I can see where Teh Lavos is coming with the two soldiers remark, lol!

To be honest, none of them, really.
I was so in love with Rinoa from VIII, and everything about her character that when I finally got my hands on VII, I had nothing left for any of them. If I have to choose though, I'd say Barret. He's got a mission, and he's completely dedicated to go through with it for the people he cares about.

Id say i could relate to Cid because he dreams alot like I do, he is also determined like me but above everything he put the life of one of his crew (i forgot her name) before his dream meaning it was never fullfilled. Same with me although I dream alot my friends come first. I could also relate to Red XIII.
Also Barret for the reasons Omnislash pointed out.

Man the fact that this thread is still going speaks largely to the fact that fewer people must be posting and those that do are all posting on the same threads. I honestly expected it to be gone by now, but hey Life is funny that way.
But that being said the answers have all been interesting .... Here's a a twist. How many of you can find something to identify with Hojo in yourself?
Ok so maybe thats more of a joke than anything, but have at it

I have to say that I can relate to Tifa and Vincent, which is a main reason why the two are my favorite charcters of ANY game. Tifa because she tries to help out people and is willing to sacrifice her own happiness for the happiness and well being of those around her. She also tends to have a hard time expressing her emotions, I do too. Vincent because he is quite and his 'love' was tragic which I can relate to. He tends to blame himself when things go wrong, and that is something I often find myself doing. Both of these charcters are mature, and I do think of my self as a mature person.
On looks, well I have jet black hair and I have brown eyes, my skin is slightly pale, so I'm not sure if I resemble either of them.

Hojo? This is a good challenge. Well, I'm very cynical sometimes. And I'm definitely a weird person. But it's still not enough to identify with him, luckily.
