What is it? My personal favourite is Warzone 2100 at the moment. Even if it is quite old, it's still got a lot of things that other more well known strategy games could really learn from. Easily the best I've played - although I'll admit that I haven't played too many in the last few years.

Warzone 2100 is a great game, I'll concede quite happily. However, it's not my fave at the moment. (Although I AM one day starting an organization named 'The New Paradigm' and I'm using the logo from that game. :p)

I think my fave at the moment would have to be either Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 (With Yuri's Revenge.), or Starcraft (With Brood War). Both of these games are excellent examples of how the genre ought to be done, and the fact I not only still play them but rate them so highly after all this time shows their excellence.

Empire Earth II would be there, but something about it seems hollow. I don't know... it just lacks the epic feel of the original for some reason. I can't put my finger on it. If it had that, I daresay I'd rate it as one of the best though; technically it's all good, and everything fits together pretty well.

Does FFCC count? I mean it's not really an RPG, but more like a strategy/ action game. In multiplayer mode you have to work up a strategy to concur several of tasks. So does it count? If so, it's my favorite.

You so silly, Chris. If that were the case, than most games'd be considered RTS's. :p

My favorite is, and forever will be, Starcraft. The Starcraft craze, for me, started in 8th grade. I would literally dash home just to play an hour of SC with my friends. There was this 1 map, called Starship Troopers, where you had to defend your terran base against the zerg. Saying that it was insanely tough is an understatement. I played with 2 of my close friends and it took us 3 hours just to get to the second to last level. We lost. :( That summer, I also would wake up at 10 in the morning, just to play a couple hours of SC with my friends before going to tennis camp. Oh God, SC was the best.

Ogre Battle is the only RTS I've ever played. :eep: I'm generally more of a turn-based man.

WC2, I liked that game much better then 3, personally. 3 was just fricken hard.

3 is hard if you don't understand how to use a race. I suck with the Night Elves...BIG TIME. I prefer to use the Undead or Humans.

The only race I ever kicked ass with was humans because they're the easiest to use. I just wish my copy of WC3 still worked so I can play it online.

What makes the humans so easy to use is that it is literally based off of knights and things like that which we grew up learning about so we instictivly know how to use them. Learning the other races that don't follow that pattern are harder to use.

Yeah, the undead were hard to use concidering you needed to build Pylons to power your buildings.

I like SC a lot, but I've always been a C&C: RA person.

I'm not a huge RTS fan, though.

Age of Empire II: The Conquerors Expansion. :D

If only I hadn't lost my AoE II disc, so I could still play it. :(

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2, definitely.

Although my current favourite is the Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth.

does dynasty warriors count?

Dynasty Warriors is a hack 'n slash/action game. I'd have to say my favorite would either be C&C: Red Alert 2 or Age of Empires II. I probably played Warcraft II more than both of those combined, though, when I was a kid.

When I was a kid, Dune 2 was all that mattered. :D

Starcraft and Warcraft 3. Starcraft is still the best hands down, especially in multiplayer with the sheer number of units you can build, and the fact that the game is perfectly balanced. Strangely enough, my least favorite race in the game was Zerg, but they're all I use now online as they suit my playing style the most, and I'm best as them. Warcraft 3 is great as well though. It's really not that hard once you learn armor and attack types, which you can have figured out in no time if you use a guide of some sort. My favorite race is definitely Night Elves, mainly because I was always best as them. Never could get the hang of the others.

How can you compete with Red Alert 2?

Starcraft Brood Wars and Warcraft III Frozen Throne. I'm an admitted Blizzard fanboy but they make their games really well and I respect that, especially since they always make sure to add a humorous element to them, such as in the form of repeatedly clicking on units to have them say wierd things.

Never got the hang of Starcraft, not enough time to get it and play it. However, Warcraft 3 , C&C Red Alert 2 And C&C Generals are downright awesome. As is AoE and AoM (Mythology).
