They deserve to be locked up for making a terrible joke/prank. If that is the kind of stuff they are doing then the show will fail anyways. F--

i like the way cruise wouldn't let the guy go and held him there while he told him how stupid he was. He may be small but he's a tough guy.

It wasn't a very funny joke, but he didn't have to be an ass about it.

"Why would you do something so mean as that?" His reaction was funnier than the squirting...

Come on, that wasn't fair. He was giving up his time to talk to these people and to answer their questions and they had to play a stupid, incredibly childish prank on him like that. It wasn't funny. :mad2:

All credit to Tom Cruise for not smashing the guy in the face, which is exactly what I would have done if I was in his place.

What a fruit. At least Sharon Osbourne knows how to take a damn joke.I'll say. Ok, it was embarrasing for him, and I do respect him - but I mean, come on, you're a CELEBRITY, you earn insane amounts of moolah and you're going to benefit from the said interview JUST as much as the would-have-been interviewer would have. Embarrasing - yes. Offensive? Hardly.

It wasn't funny.Being famous doesn't make your time any more valuable or anything. It doesn't matter to me if it was Tom Cruise or some random guy off the street. It's still funny.

For a little water in your face? I don't think it's that big of a deal. ;) So you wipe it off, maybe throw some back at the interviewer, and get on with your life. It's nothing to get so upset over; and DEFINITLEY not enough for these guys to go in prison, or whatever the article said. That's what isn't funny. I like Tom Cruise, but he's being a retard.

I think the reason being he got hacked off about it was:

1. He was trying to give a sensible interview, but the interviewer disrepects him by squirting him.

2. He's a celebrity, so he's going to make a big deal about it, isn't he! Just to grab more attention from people.

3. It could've been anything that squirted him in the face.

But seriously, all it was was a bloody little spray of water. Fair enough it isn't that funny, but surely he has some sense of humour?! If that was me I'd just laugh it off. But then if it happened more than once, I'd start to get annoyed. But it only happened to him once, so there was no need for him to make a big deal out of it.

Miriel
06-21-2005, 08:57 AM
Did you guys watch the video? After he got squirted he very calmly asked the guy, "why did you do that?" and then called him a jerk a few times. Cruise didn't even raise his voice. I don't know where this idea that he got all uppity is coming from. He wasn't the one who arrested them, he didn't pull a Russell and throw a phone at the guy. It was a lame joke that Cruise didn't enjoy, but it's not like he made a big deal about it.

I never thought I'd be defending that arrogant nutjob.

Eh. I think it's more innuendo than a pun.

I saw it on the news this morning. I didn't find it funny - only stupid. It was really lame. I felt sorry for Cruise in the end.

I thought it'd be a bit obvious.

It's the fact that Tom thinks he's all high & mighty 'cause he's a celebrity, so he has to make a big fuss out of it for the camera.

I think it's easy to say that he overreacted, but if you're there, talking to someone it's probably the last thing you expect to happen. It comes as a surprise and I can see why it annoyed him. Sure he may be a celebrity but I don't think anyone would like that kinda embaressment. Plus it's not really all that funny. It was funny how he reacted though, but as Miriel said, he was pretty calm about it. I think the reporter deserved that reaction.

He's quite right to react the way he did -those stupid jerks ... jerks.

To be honest, who cares? If he wasn't a celebrity he would realise that this stuff happens all the time in real life.

06-21-2005, 04:54 PM
It wasn't a funny prank, it was lame. My friends and I have pulled enough pranks to know what is funny and what is just crap.

Credit to him, Cruise handled that really well, remaining calm and talking to the guy who did it. I probably would have just lamped the reporter, then stepped on his face.

I think he hadled it good enough but made a bit too much of a big deal about it even though he didnt go and do a Russel Crow over the whole thing. Id have just said to the fake interviewer that people have been waiting there for hours for autographs and interviews and after he gave the interviewer the time of day the half assed prank wasnt appreaciated.

Tom Cruise is small. So he's a squirt. The squirt got squirted.

It was the best I could think of from that title.

Hey, guess what? People get squirted in the face with water all the time. Crazy, I know.

Miriel
06-21-2005, 08:23 PM
What? Celebrities aren't people. They're strange beings who explode if they eat carbs, have obnoxiously white teeth, are composed of 75% plastic and 10% Botox, and through powers of sheer prettiness compel the world to put them on a pedestal and sell their half-eaten toast on ebay.

When things happen to these creatures, we gotta know about it! It has to be front page news! How else are we going to validate our own lives if not by mocking the misfortunes of celebrities, and saying, "oh he might be rich and famous, but at least I didn't get squirted in the face today."

Supposed "artists" have a job. Their job is to entertain me. When they exceed the bounds of their job and begin to think they are better than me, then I should have the right to squirt water in their face. Also, there are people dying around the world. Yes, let us talk about Tom Cruise.

I'm loving how the police are getting involved. If God squirted Tom Cruise with a downpour, would he be persucuted? Would he be allowed bail? Would Cameras be dragged into court? Would the Jury have decide wether God (The Defendent) should be punnished for getting Mr Cruise (The Victim) a little wet?

The definition of "assualt" has been taken too far. It was just a little bit of water.

I just finally watched the video. I think that was hilarious. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to his hotel and laughs about it. Props to him, he totally embarrassed the people who were trying to embarass him. If you can take a shot at yourself and totally get someone else for taking that shot, then good on you. I think Tom Cruise was doing just what Yams wanted him to do. Entertain. He intentionally got the guy in front of the camera and everything. If I was him, I would have loved keeping a straight face through all that and then gone inside or something and cracked up.

ok, personally, I praise tom cruise for what he did, you people are saying hes acting like that bc hes an actor, well, guess what, you're right. It was very stupid and unexpected, I bet he was ALOT madder than we showed to be (atleast I would be)....Now, unlike some random guy off the street and beating the mans ASS, Tom cruise knows that his career was on the line and ALOT of people look up to him bc hes an idol, so he dealt with the situation calmly and with appropriate manner. Now, you say tom is being stuck up but in reality he really did do the right thing.

Also, he didnt get all "upset" like you all say he did, he didnt dare raise his voice not once.

I think he did great and did what was supposed to do instead of intaginazing (spelled right?) the "papparazi vs. celebrities" war.

good for him. if someone started talking to me and then squirted me in the face, id deck em. but with all the cameras around, he was right for at least telling that guy wat a dick he was.

I agree with Yamsy here.

It's just a bit of water. The only reason it's getting publicity at all is because he's a celebrity.

I'm struggling to see where the whole 'Tom Cruise lost his rag' bit came from. He was pretty gorram calm as far as I could tell. If someone did that to me I doubt I'd get violent, but I'd be pretty freaking loud about it.

Further issues;

The man's a nice guy. He goes around for a very long time, talks to his fans, signs autographs, and gives interviews. Now yeah, he's damned well paid, he's not got the hardest life around, but why does that open him up to humiliation and stuff? (And you say, these things are part of being a celebrity? K! No more protection from libel and slander for you, Mr. Neeson!)

More importantly, there's no way of knowing what it is. Terrorism isn't a big concern of mine but the fact is there are nutters out there who get fixated on a celebtriy and often end up trying to harm them. That could have been a hell of a lot of things a lot nastier than water, and they're lucky there were no armed bodyguards around.

Three, the smug bastard who did it was a smug bastard. I think that's why Tom got annoyed; he was being pretty calm and the tosser was sitting there with a big grin on his face (Quickly changed to a more worried look.), and that would piss anyone off.

Fact is, Cruise remembered the whole time he was on a lot of TV camera, he knew really losing his rag would achieve nothing, and he furthermore didn't even use any language which would need censored (I have NO idea what the big deal about calling the jerk a jerk is.). Props to him for handling the situation about as best as he could have.

lol ... i would have ... ... ... :rolleyes2 ... ... ... spat in the guy's face  ...

doing that is just stupid and rude. have any of you ever heard of "happy slapping"? happy slapping is random people that pick out other random people off the street and just slap em in the face and catch it on tape. That water prank is exactly the same to me, it's just rude and stupid, only less violent.

Exactly. I would be pretty offended too and in front of all the cameras. Put yourself in his shoes. Do you like it if you were squirted like that in public for actually trying to take an interview seriously? Its a normal reaction -_-

There is also the fact that he's at a premiere, and I don't know about you, but if you were all dressed up for a pretty big event (probably the most important one for you that year) then you wouldn't want people splashing water on you, either.

A bit harsh, don't ya think? You gotta admit, though, Tommy Boy's a bit of a drama queen. It was water, not acid, for Christ's sake. If it were me up there, I'd just take the mic, turn it on them, and squirt them. There. We're even.

And to Yamaneko, "WHO TOLD YOU I GET SQUIRTED A LOT?!!"

I like how you all say it was just a "joke", the guy can't even take a "joke". I'd like to see you get squirted in the face! So yes, it was a "joke" a mild one that is.
