I'm in a band, but we don't have a proper name yet. I'm seriously considering the name Masamune. We're heavy metal. Any suggestions?

I don't think any of us here can, or should come up with a name for your band. It's something you all of you who are in the band should think and talk about, no matter how long it takes. None of us here know exactly what kind of music you play; the lyrics you write, how you sound, who you really are. And that's important, I think.

Or you could just call yourselves The Burgleficklers and be done with it. But fi yuo want a truly deep meaning to your name, I wouldn't be here. ;)

do not use and of the following words "the, black,death(or any variation of it) a metal, blood, words ending in 'ist' or 'ism' or anything that sounds like it could be a hardcore band" everything on that list is overdone. try and make it something without any of those in there. hope it helps at all

and if at all possible dont use songs from other bands

I suggest that you think of something that has deep significance for you. So , when people ask you where your band name comes from, you have an excuse to start talking about something you love and value, be it a song, a year, a happening, a person or anything else.

I wouldn't suggest going with a mythological name too much, because they're overly used, especially when it comes to metal, and power metal specifically.

However, I do suggest finding some old non-spoken language books (like latin or old english for example), and check out cool words, which at the same time describe your bands style, for example "mors principium est" = death is (the) beginning (already in use by a Finnish death metal band), something like that.

Or then just dig up a contemporary english dictionary and find the rarest and longest word and there you have it. (This is probably the same method that Evanescense used :D)

Anyways, anything with a fateful and/or rugged sound is good. Also the shorter the name, the more rememberable it will be.

With the "ica" thing, that's just coincidence with metallica. metallica is actually metallic in latin. The same goes for Sepultura, that's latin for a burial...

On that note, I was going through my latin dictionary a while ago and got some cool names:

Capulus - the handle of a sword
Lamina - a blade
Moriens - Death bed
Armamentarium - armour

and so forth... They weren't great though...
