Which is a cooler name for the main man:

Odin or Thor?

I think Thor since it sounds more thunder god-ish, and sounds terrifyingly mighty.

Mr. Wednesday is the coolest character I've come across since Death. So Odin gets my vote. Pluswhich, you can't really argue with anyone who goes by the name of 'The Gallows God', cool as Thor is.

Actually, we were talking about Discworld's Death, who is a sublime character indeed.

No disrespect to other incarnations of the old fellow though.

Odin spends all his time asleep in a hospital. While Thor goes out and blows up Airport terminals and turns jets into eagles.

My name is...something..?

I know a guy named Thor.
He's...well...kind of weird... :screwy:

Thor, as the God of rain and thunder, was a pretty important fellow. Protecting farmers was just one of his many roles. He was also an avid smiter of giants, for which he used the same enormous hammer that he used to create thunder. Incidentally, I wear a token in the shape of Thor's Hammer, not because I truly believe I can invoke his protection, but because of my general interest in all things medieval.

Odin, however, was a significant figure. The King of the Gods is generally such. Missing one eye, but served by the Valkyries.

There are plenty of decent reference websites out there, with detailed info on the Nordic Gods.

Which is a cooler name for the main man:

Odin or Thor? It's always better to create an original name, unless you specifically want some connection to the mythical figure.

Thor, cuz' he has the power of thunder, and whenever I hear his name it reminds me of some cheesy 80s band.

But do you know why Odin is missing one eye? He bound himself to the world-ash tree Yggdrasil and had his eye pecked out by his two ravens in order to gain inner sight. It doesn't get much more hardcore than that, except maybe at an Earth Crisis concert.

What did Thor say the time when he pulled the muscles in his back? "I'm Mighty Thor!"

Haha! I'm so cool.

Actually, Odin traded his other eye in at the Well of Wisdom in exchange for a vast level of knowledge and suchlike. Huginn and Muninn (Thought and Memory, the two ravens) are used by Odin to scout the world, and they fly for nine days then return to tell him what they have seen.

Yea but mine sounds more badass. And I am fairly certain the basics of my story are "true" to the mythology as well.

Probably a fair appraisal, none of us can say for certainty how things were told 1500 years ago. And yeah, it is pretty badass, I'll give you that...

I have to agree even though both storys are cool. It doees sadden me a little i love norse mythology but i actuly dont know the anser to this so your guess is as good as mine. problem is there are meny version of "the truth" in norse Mythology. Perhaps this is becouse most of it was passed down through the ages via the oral tradition.

Are we talking about the Death character who originally came from Neil Gaiman's, The Sandman series? 'cause that's who I was talking about. XD

(Sorry, I've never read the Discworld series.)

No no, I'm fully aware he was strung up on Yggdrasil for nine days, and his side was pierced with a spear, the question was how he had lost his eye.

Did he not just sacrifice it for knowledge? I don't know if there was a specific procedure to him sacrificing his eye though...

Odin gets my vote!!
first of all, he's a necromancer, which is cool, then he has a long spear "Gungnir" and a sword, which believe it or not is called "Zantetsuken" according to myth (or so i have read) and he has a six legged horse "Sleipnir"...
you can tell i like Odin, he rocks!! same as Bahamut really...ony hes a dragon.

How could a NORSE god's sword in NORSE legend, have a JAPANESE name that means Steel-bladed Sword?

Try and think before you post something, honestly.

Odin. "East" spoiled whatever respect I had for Thor. Great character, but far from mighty, or god-like. So Odin it is.
