Well, this might be weird coming from me, but I want to make an Interpol thread.
I mostly argue that all Rock sucks, for which part I do, but im quite intrested in this band. Ive got most of there songs ( favourite being Slow Hands ) and I want to know if anyone else likes them, I also want any new info on them if you know.

I'm shocked.

But yes, they're very good.

I preferTurn on the Bright Lights to Antics, but they're still both very good albums.

Slow Hands is a good single, but songs like Stella Was A Diver And She Was Always Down and Leif Erikson are a touch more interesting.

I think Slow Hands is one of their least compelling songs. The back half of Antics is awesome, and most of their other songs are quite good as well.

Indie music is...

The term: Short for independent rock. In terms of music it would be independent of major labels/mainstream stuff.

History: grew out from 60s garage, 70s punk, and 80s post punk it started in the mid 80s as alternative/college radio music. Once nirvana hit big the alternative genre split: the popular side was just alternative(Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, No Doubt, etc.) and the other half that wasn't mainstream(by choice or not) became indie rock(Pavement, Sebadoh, Built To Spill, etc).

Some bands have signed to major labels but are still considered indie(Modest Mouse, etc.). Go figure.

Sound: In the begining indie sounded like alternative(because it was) but it grew more experimental and weird. In Britain indie has more of a typical sound like Radiohead, Muse, etc. rather than a definition based on 'the scene.'

Got that from urbandictionary.com

But, Indie is become the new fad now. Kinda like how Punk used to be about rejecting mainstream and now it IS the mainstream. Or at least that's what people say, I'm not into pop punk, old punk, or any punk. xD

I don't think they can really be defined as an indie band, they've been around for quite sometime. I haven't listened to them much, honestly, I just know I really really didn't like slow hands.

They're dysfunctionally awesome.

I think that about covers it.

I like the lyrics of Slow Hands, just the general way it's presented isn't as likeable as their less prominent tracks.

extremely good band, and im very jealous my brother is getting to see them at glasto in a couple of days.

havent got turn on the bright lights yet, but i plan to soon, antics is great, (bass intro to evil, woah) but favourite song is probably slow hands, c'mere and some of the later tracks do push it close though.

slow hands is too much in the derivative dance-rock Franz Ferdinand model to be a great song. It's still pretty decent, but other tracks off Antics like Not Even Jail, Length of Love, Take You On a Cruise, C'mere, and Evil are juust fabulous songs. The first album, Turn on the Bright Lights, is almost as good too.

Interpol formed in the late 90s but they started to get play in London in 2000/01 and got their album released in 2002. They got a lot more attention in late 2004 when Antics came out.

*whimpers*

Well, they should anyway, because I like their first album much more than the second. However, I was talking to Chris about this, and he agreed with me that both albums seem to have taken a long time to get into, and longer to find one's way out of. Not eoff Chris. I think when I go home, I'll listen to The Specialist, except such things can be dangerous. Oh, and I should go find out what the bandguy's names are so I can say "SAY HI TO BREN FOR ME" and they will be confused.

Contrary to what I might have said in the previous thread, Interpol are amazing. Seeing them live really rekindled my interest, and I've been listening to them a great deal more over the last six months.

Although it might be a boring attitude to take, I'd still say TOTBL is the best album. Hearing Evil and C'mere on the radio more often has made Antics lose some of its charm, something which didn't happen to TOTBL. NYC and Stella are as good as ever, so it's easily the best record in my eyes.

Interpol are good from what I've heard. I heard a couple of songs from Glasto this year when they played & I liked them.

Gibbi8, why do you hate all rock music?

Interpol are good from what I've heard. I heard a couple of songs from Glasto this year when they played & I liked them.Sadly, the BBC decided to cut them off slap bang in the middle of PDA, mistaking the band's dramatic pause for the end of the song. :(

That was a decent performance though, the link from Evil to PDA was nice, although Dan didn't do much of his usual strutting. Poor guy must've been nervous.
