Aren't pacifiers just plain evil? They are used to trick babies into being quiet because the baby is convinced the pacifier is the mother's nipple... We have enough deception in this world, but for some reason we also have to deceive our babies...? What are your thoughts?

From the nipple to the bottle, baby. Nipple to the bottle. :spin:

I never even knew it was to trick them into thinking it was the mother's nipple. o_o

I just thought it was to get them to be quiet. =/

It's supposed to feel like the mother's nipple, because it's used to comfort the baby.

I was recently reading the Batman graphic novel The Long Halloween, and a serial killer used pacifiers as silencers for his pistol. Clever bastard.

How the hell did that work?

It has nothing to do with the mother's nipple specifically. Babies are born with a sucking reflex, and that reflex is calming. It's more related to the reflex than the nipple itself.

At work, I've seen five and six year old girls sitting in strollers and sucking on pacifiers. It hurts my brains.

I lost all faith in Vin Diesel after he passed on the XXX sequel.
