I haven't been following the details of this game closely, but judging from what we know about his past (namely his feelings for Lucretia and his membership in the Turks) I'd say both.

But I think he's a lover. Look into his eyes, he doesn't want to really be fighting, he just does what's neccesary. those big bushels of hair he has, and that long red cape, he's just wanting to get some candy on halloween if you ask me ^^
