What are your opinions of TV for kids these days?

I think most of the kids' shows suck, to be honest.

Its all pretty much the same, but given that we're grown up we cant see things from the kid's point of view, and all the shows we grew up on still hold a special place for us, we still enjoy them for nostalgic reasons.

I think in some areas, it's actually improved. I really enjoy some of the new cartoons out today.

The quality varies a lot in my opinion. Some shows are ridicolous while some are good. I have a little sister, who is 9, and she watches Cartoon Network and Fox Kids all the time. Sometimes I find myself not understanding why she "wastes" her time watching these cartoons, but at the same time there are shows that I also really like, such as "SpongeBob Squarepants" and "Dexter's Lab." ect.

The kiddy TV programmes I hate are the ones for little children.. like The Tweenies and stuff like that. When you compare ones like that to some of the old ones like The Wombles or The Clangers... they suck.

ALL I KNOW IS THERE IS NOTHING THAT COMES CLOSE THE OVERALL COOLNESS OF TRANSFORMERS.

Spongebob Squarepants is seriously one of the greatest kid shows. The hardest I've ever laughed would probably be while watching an episode. Last night I was nearly crying laughing, because they had the Spongebob episode where Spongebob thinks he's ugly, but he just had bad breath, and people were spazzing out about the smell.

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Teen Titans and a lot of other ones rock too. I'll probably edit this post and add some more to the list.

The filth they show to little kiddies these days is terrible. Bob the Builder my arse. What the hell was wrong with Postman Pat and Fireman Sam? And why do they feel the need to change stuff? The new theme song for Thomas the Tank engine is evil incarnate.

They re-did Thomas the Tank Engine's theme song!? That is one show that should just stay as is, it was awesome. :/

THANK YOU.

The TV shows for older kids isn't so bad, it's just the ones for little kids. Like BOB THE DAMN BUILDER. And yes, Fireman Sam was one of the best kid's shows ever. He was so cool.

Spongebob Squarepants rules  And Foster's can be amusing sometimes, but the greatest Cartoon Network programme is, without a doubt, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. I laugh so hard I almost wet myself at that.

The Tweenies needs to be taken off the air.

I agree, Billy and Mandy own. That was the show I forgot to add to my list. I like the show with Hector Con Carne too, the brain.

Two of the best older cartoons, by far, were Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain.

Pinky and the Brain is hilarious xD

But seriously, I was looking after my mother's friend's daughter, and she was watching Balamory... by the time it had finished, I was seriously considering shooting myself.

And then there's that Dora the Explorer one. Me and my friends have a grudge against that programme... it outsmarted us. :(

Even though kid shows definitely will never be able to compare with kids shows from the 90s, there are still some pretty good shows. Like Spongebob, even though some stupid little girl almost ruined it for us. Foster's home is all right and so is Teen Titans. My favorite American cartoon is actually Justice League: Unlimited.

They should put Ren and Stimpy back on Nickelodeon. That was completely badass.

They did on another channel. But they weren't good. I think it was on Spike TV.

Ren and stimpy ruled. kids dont wana see mediocre crap like barney the purple dinosaur (anyone ever heard of weird al yankovich please check out his stuff about barney).. they wanna see funny, scary and gross stuff. what about the good old rugrats, scooby (which has really gone down the pan lately) and rhubarb & custard?
only good new stuff is reapers tales and spongebob. spongebobs only funny if i watch it with the right people though.

I think Kiddie TV is retarded now its just embarassing most aren't really that educational they teach you how to count in Spainish (yeah they'll need that) or how to find something sitting on a table, when I was kid I would watch Spider-man, Silver Surfer, and stuff oh and Barney but that has more educational value then TV nowadays. Though some are good like the Disney channel always teaches something no matter what the show is its characters and stuff suck but at least it teaches something even though you have to suffer a half hour to learn it. Realyl I think Kiddie TV is really bad.

There are actually a lot of educational kids shows now, far more than there used to be. And teaching kids to be bilingual is not only stimulating for their brains, it's also very useful. Spanish is heavily spoken all over the United States, and in places like California, most jobs want you to be bilingual in because of so many immigrants who cant speak English at all. Learning this stuff is great at the age it's geared to, when the child's brain is still developing.

I think it's funny to listen to so much bad-mouthing of kids shows. But then again, I think I'd be freaked out if everyone liked them, considering the average age around here.

I haven't watch Kiddy TV recently, so I can't really say. But most of what we thought was cool back then seems fairly stupid now, so it stands to reason that if you put today's Kiddy TV into the past we would have still liked it.

Yeah I'd like to take back the bilginual (sp) thing thats good but I don't think Kids shows are very good overall theres a few good ones. Like Dora and Barney, yet some like Boombah and Teletubbies are total crap what the hell do they teach?

TheAbominatrix
06-28-2005, 05:34 AM
Well first off, anything that holds the attention of a screaming toddler is good for the parents or whoever is in charge of them. Secondly, they teach color association and a bit of basic associations and problem solving. They arent meant to be extremely educational or deep, as they're geared at kids who are barely speaking.

It was a complete failure, too. Ren and Stimpy even had sex in the first episode.

Boobah is what turns kids into violent angry killers, not Grand Theft Auto.

I've always thought that kids can handle more than we give them credit for, and thus dislike the horribly dumbed-down and saccharine world presented in children's programing. I'm not saying they need to be taught about the hard stuff in life or whatever, but I would prefer something that stimulates them more mentally than what most of today's programming seems to be geared for.

I got an unhealthy dose of cartoons when I went to louisiana.

I disapprove.

Stations that play shows over five times in a week (disney) so that kids have them memorized should be shot.

So much of it is just so awful. It was a relief everynight when Adult Swim would come on. 'aah, quality cartoons'

But then aqua teen hunger force would play and I'd be in a dull stupor until family guy and futurama came on againxD

What I don't like is how little kids will. . well, the midget I was with, Linda, she would scream at the characters in the tv and seemed to think they were real. She's like ten. Also, at various times, she would threaten us with attacks from various showsX.x;;

Now I can understand being obsessed with one particular show. Many people do that.

But obsessing over ALL of them? That's a little weird.
