Topic: I would like to provide feedback to the staff concerning adding a welcome page for banned members who try to log in to the EoFF forums. The link is my submission. Nothing more. :)

That is sort of funny, but I feel that rubbing a banned members face in the fact that he's banned is not very cool. It's actually kind of petty and I think that EoFF is above that.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure to memorize better things from now on, you loser.
Read that carefully and you'll find that you're dissing our url. And for all we know, they do memorise better things (and possibly worse things).

There's something else you forgot to include.

- Go to your View menu and click the Political option. Make sure the indicator is all the way to the left.

Or maybe that might just help from getting banned in the first place? Seems to work for plenty of other people around here.

yea, because we ban or don't ban people based on political beliefs.

The Man
07-06-2005, 04:08 AM
I have never seen anyone banned from this forum based on their political beliefs alone, only the *wording* in which they choose to go about expressing them. If someone went about spouting neo-nazi nonsense in a bunch of EoEO threads I wouldn't be surprised if they got banned though, that's just common sense (see Bleys's "Use Your Smurfing Brain" rule). But I've never seen that happen here.

This is why people get banned for wishing death and suffering on the American people, accusing people of genocide, calling them nazis, referring to people as "racist bastards", hoping they get shot.... no, wait a minute, they don't get banned for that.

The neo-nazi stuff isn't a problem here, apparently it's the "neo-conservatives" that are causing all the trouble, what with all those eeeevil Bible-thumping fascist bigots running around, right? Those bastards that support freedom, security, Capitalism, and real equality? It doesn't matter how we "word" things, some people will take them as offensive either way. I specifically remember being banned for two weeks because of a (frankly idiotic) misunderstanding by somebody who disagreed with my political beliefs--I'm sure if I had expressed different views in the past, or if the person who banned me agreed with me (or, hell, was smart enough to understand what I said), the same mistake wouldn't have been made. Then again, if that person was smarter, they would have agreed with me in the first place, and the whole thing wouldn't have happened. Of course, I ended up getting tired of the rampant arrogance and stupidity, and the post which revealed this wasn't meant to be "worded" nicely.

I've supported those consistently(you even agreed with me in that freedom/equality, aka capitalism/communism, thread a while ago), yet I have never been banned from EoEO. I have attacked beliefs and had heated arguments - yet never been banned.

In EoEO/EotW, you're banned for wording. If you disagree with a ban, PM the staff member. If you still disagree with them, oh well: it's two weeks(or whatever). If you complain about others getting away with something, yet have never bothered to Warn a post, then tough . I saw your last post in EotW, and it definitely deserved a temp-ban.

The biggest reason people seem to be banned is swearing and name-calling. Don't do either of those, and you're probably good.

Oh, I'm not arguing about that, I did that with full knowledge of what would happen, but it needed to be said.

The ban I disagreed with is another story--it was an obvious misunderstanding (even if the banning moderator decided to shun responsibility and claim it was for other "offenses", those wouldn't warrant a ban, and the "last straw" was in no way approaching any lines), and after I made a thread concerning my ban here in Feedback--and seeing the majority of people that replied actually agree that the ban was uncalled for, including CKs--that thread was simply closed, and the mod responsible for my ban lowered his personal grudge and dislike to a simple two-week ban instead of the original three weeks.

I couldn't tell you how many times I've clicked the "Warn" button. I remember well warning CKs of some of the specific instances I mentioned--when people that disagreed with Affirmative Action were insulted--when the MinuteMen and others who supported border control were referred to as "racist bastards"--when a member stated that he/she hopes everybody that supports gun rights would be shot--when another member stated, multiple times, that 9/11 was good because America was "taken down a notch" and "humbled", and that more attacks on innocent American civilians are needed--the many times this same member referred to members of a specific political party, supporters of a specific political figure, and/or believers in specific political ideas and standings as "nazis"--when specific members not only generalized an entire group of people held in very high regard by many, but tried to relate this entire group to, of course, nazis and followers of Hitler. I have clicked the "Warn" button many times, and I don't recall any instances that have actually been acted upon--but, of course, it's all up to the opinions of the mods the warnings are sent to, and when the mods disagree with the person who warned the post and/or agree with the person who made the post, nothing is done, no matter how necessary it would be.

This is why people get banned for wishing death and suffering on the American people,I have yet to see an example of anyone doing this. I think you probably took someone's post the wrong way.

accusing people of genocide, calling them nazis, referring to people as "racist bastards",I never said any of that stuff was banworthy, and it shouldn't be.

hoping they get shot.... no, wait a minute, they don't get banned for that.Again, as long as they're not hoping a forum member gets shot, I don't think it's banworthy in most cases (if they made a thread saying the person deserved to be a shot right after their death, it would qualify as trolling and probably would merit a ban). What I *do* think is banworthy is to say that all members of a specific group that likely includes people reading the thread deserve to be shot.

Somehow I think there's probably another explanation for it.

Then again, if that person was smarter, they would have agreed with me in the first place, and the whole thing wouldn't have happened. Now you're just being arrogant. If you were being that snide in EoEO I'm not surprised you were banned.

We discuss all bannings. There is a great difference between arguing a point and being personally offensive about it. People have stated conservative views and not been banned plenty of times before. It's all in the manner of expression.

Those are wrong - and I would argue strongly against them. But they are merely voicing their ideas, and unless they say something about YOU or are otherwise immature(spamming, massive swearing, etc) they aren't and shouldn't be banned for it.

From my understanding, you've typically been banned when you call another member names or otherwise break the rules of EoEO/EotW.

Were you called a Nazi or "racist bastard," or was it just something like "people who support this and this are Nazis?" If it was directed personally at you, then I could see that being grounds for banning.

So unless it's "YOU ARE A _____", then it doesn't call for a ban, a warning, or even a snip? What about "you think like a ____"? Or "people who support this are ____"? What about "members of such-and-such group, of which you are part, are ____"? How 'bout "members of such-and-such group, of which you are part, should be shot"?

So "you're an idiot" is a bannable offense, while "I hope you get shot" is okey-dokey?

Well first of all, I recall very clearly you stating that people who burn the American flag are "dumbasses", and you didn't get banned for it, even after I brought it to an admins attention and such (because nothing personal, but I didn't get how that was ok, but whatever).

And second of all, if what you say is true, I'd of never been banned from EoEO. Were you not here when I got thrown in the Drunk Tank and such? I'm sure everyone else was.

You don't get banned from EoEO for being a conservative coocoo head...you get banned from EoEO for flamming, spamming, generally being and jerk, or "supporting terrorism". ;)

And for the record, I like you as a member everywhere but EotW...and Feedback. :p

No, all of those should be bannable. Pure generalities should not be. Again, the "members of such-and-such a group" ones are, I would guess, judged case-by-case. Some moderators may have different standards. But any type of personal-attack would definitely increase your chances of being banned.
