I hope this is the proper place to put this post.

I was just wondering what other RPGs besides FF have you all realy liked. And are there any that you would rank next to the FF series?

I consider Xenogears my favorite non-FF RPG, for the following reasons:

Intricate story
Memorable characters
Giant robots
Cool villains
Great music
Offbeat names
3-D environments

I've played a lot of RPGs. Star Ocean, Legend of Dragoon, Suikoden, and many others. Not to many can rally compare to FF though. Star Ocean is really good, especially Star Ocean: The Second Story which I love like a son, Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger are pretty good too. (Though I never beat Chrono Trigger because the disk got scratched.) Legend of Dragoon is pretty good. I've only played Suikoden IV, and i've heard the earler ones are a lot better, but IV itself is only a decent game. Its not great compared to the earlier mention, but its still okay. Never played Xenosaga, but I hear its good. I have many other RPGs as well, but I don't really have time to review them t the present time.

wow this thread is actualy depressing me. There are so many RPGs Ive never played and probably never will :( Either because there rare or too expensive (over $100 for suikoden 2).

The ones I have played that are very memorable to me are:
Star Ocean the Second Story
Vagrant Story
Parasite Eve (if that counts)
Lunar Silver Star Story
Dark Cloud
Dark Cloud 2 ( I love the dark cloud games)

I guess I could try and hunt down some of those mentioned.

There are plenty of RPG series that make Final Fantasy seem unappealing.

Tales of Destiny 2 (Japan Only)

Really? Its only in Japan? Im not into the Tales Of series, but if you click my signature, a pic of all my RPG come up. What's that on the right side near the bottam above Skies of Arcadia Legends?

If I have a rare game and not even know it, I'll be overjoyed. I bought it when my local K-Mart was going out of business for like 6 bucks and I played maybe 20 minutes of it. I want to get ToD I before I play II.

One of us has a mistake... Where's Kawaii when you need him.. He'll clarify any and all mistakes we've made.

Tales of Eternia (USA: Tales of Destiny 2)
Tales of Destiny 2 (Japan Only)

Tales of Eternia was changed to Tales of Destiny 2 for the PSX in the USA.

The real Tales of Destiny 2 which featured cameos of the Tales of Destiny characters, and even one playable, for the Playstation 2. Only released in Japan.

The Tales of Destiny 2 that you have has no relation to Tales of Destiny, other than a few unrelated-to-the-plot cameos. So feel free to play it without having anything ruined.

Glad to have that clarified, but unfortunately I dont see myself playing ToD II because Im full with FFVIII (just got to disc II today) FFMQ and i've been fighting off the urge to play Suikoden IV (because i'm part of a suikoden foruma dn the constant exposure to Suikoden may force me into it), Xenosaga I (because I just bought Wal-Marts last copy of Episode II and I never fully completed Episode I).

I'll get around to it eventually though.

legend of dragoon is pretty awesome.

other then that i say suikudon 2, elder scrolls series (the most greatest games for roleplaying), lost kingdoms II (some of the worst musics ive ever hear, some are good though :) ), castlevania: aria of sorrow.

i dont know any more for now but ill tell you more when they come to mind.

Xenogears is great, from what I've played. The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind is also awesome.

I thought I played more RPGs, but I guess I really don't. It's all action RPGS (do those count?) and survival horror for me.

hear hear

These days it seems like people are only interested in an RPG if it's Final Fantasy, Xenogears or Chrono. Every once in a while there's a vague mention of Suikoden.

Well, I really liked Wild Arms, the series isn't bad but the first one is forever my favorite. Super Mario RPG was my first RPG experience and it will always have a place in my heart for that reason. Chrono Trigger was an extremely awesome game that anyone should play. Legend Of Legaia was an awesome "fighting" RPG which put a new twist on fights and had a pretty good story as well. I liked Grandia II as well, it was pretty good and it was by far the best RPG for the Dreamcast at that time. I can't think of much more.

Star Ocean: Till the end of time because it has a great story (still, the story is far better for ffz) and Lord of the rings:the Third age because the battle system is a lot like FFs and it has lord of the rings story line :D

Star Ocean (both the SNES and PS2 ones, I haven't played PS1's The Second Story yet), Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicle, Xenosaga (including Xenogears), the Chrono games, Terranigma, Rudra no Hihou (great game, by the way)...There're many more, like the recently released Riviera: The Promised Land (that game really surprised me for its great battle system), but these aren't so well-known...

The Suikoden series is the best RPG series ever made.

Lunar SSSC is also an excellent game.

Otherwise: Breath of Fire is a good series, as well.

The more I look back, the more I see how much I really disliked FF games and how I'd put pretty much every other RPG ABOVE FF games.

I really don't see why people rate them so highly, when they mostly run entirely on hype.

Wild ARMs, Breath of Fire, Tales and Star Ocean sereii are all much better than Final Fantasy.

Well, bar SO:TTEOT, that was awful, I blame the insidious touch of Square on that one, ugh horrid story.
