Selphie uses a weapon called a nunchaku. I looked up the definition of a nunchaku and a nunchuck. They both had the same definitions. Is there really any difference between the two other than their names?

Dont think so. And regarding the names i think Nunchuck is just a shortened and less annoying way of saying nunchaku. Two syllables instead of one making it easier to say. Thats how i always saw it. Dunno wether its right though

Japanese words almost always end in vowels. That's why it has a "u." When localized into English, the "u" may be removed as it serves no phoenetic purpose as far as English is concerned.

To give you an example, Zack/Zacks/Zax from Final Fantasy VII is "Zakusu" in Japanese.
