I understand if this can't be implemented, but several times I have felt the urge to link to something on www.isthe<img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif">.net (mostly a funny picture, like pwn3d.isthe<img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif">.net or omgwtfbbq.isthe<img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif">.net) but I can't due to the swear filter. Even if it's encoded. (http://omgwtfbbq.isthe<img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif">.net) <A HREF="http://pwn3d.isthe<img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif"><img src="/xxx.gif">.net">Even if I use HTML over vBB tags.</A> Is it possible to allow an exception for this? The content is perfectly clean; however, I understand people could use it to link to sites that would obviously have dirty or "non family friendly" content. But then you'd ban them anyways, right? Anyways, discuss.

Admins probably just dont even want to run into the possibilities, thus wont allow it. They understand that most people who run these boards are teenagers/ adults who can hopefully take situations seriously, but you'll always get one jackass in the bunch, and the saftest bet is just to avoid it all together

The site you mentioned is great and clean, though other sites, not. Would you risk it as well?

I mean, yeah, that is the argument I see against it, but I still thought it was worth bringing up. *shruggles*

You can encode the URL in HTML entities, or you can use javascript to writeln() the url in pieces. There are a lot of ways around "the system" :p

<a href="http://&#x70;&#119;&#110;&#x33;&#100;&#x2E;&#105;&#x73;&#x74;&#104;&#101;&#115;&#104;&#105;&#116;&#46;&#x6E;&#x65;&#116;">Like this</a>

EDIT: OK, can it. Only HTML entities work. This forum doesn't allow &lt;script&gt; tags.

We've had issues with javascript in the past. :p

there shall be no exceptions til i am able to right about my love for scun'thorpe united without prejudice.

the view that no exceptions shall be made on anything with the swear filter (i personally think it should be scrapped)

i'll use this time to say why. when people swear it all comes up into little skulls. and from what i've seen nothing is done about it because it comes up little skulls and noone is offended by that. so people swear and it is seen as no big deal. but if the swear filter was removed and the potty mouths seen then it will become a bigger thing. people could use the warn button more and adminc ould give lots of warnings about it and ban repeat offenders who break the rules.

if we have rules why have something that covers up the breakages of it and so make the rule void.

or even better....... replace it with an automatic warn system. someone posts a dirty word and one of the higher ups gets told about it immediately.

I've always thought it should be this way but I think I am in the minority in this stance. I hope this turns into another swear filter topic because I love reading those.

I've always been against the swear filter, so I'll just let the last topic I made about this speak for itself. :)

I totally agree with you C#9 and wish we didn't have a swear filter, but I think that it's a necessity because of the Google ads.

What do the Google have to do with anything?

When Cid go into the Google ads program thingy, they made him include a swear filter. I don't remember why, and Cid didn't want a swear filter, but he had to make one so he could make some money to keep this place running.

The swear filter needs to be taken down temporarily so a certain someone who had a recent revelation in his LJ can cuss out a certain member.

Cloud No.9

is that certain memeber me?

so let me get this right.... from what i've seen most of the higher ups don't want a swear filter? cid never wanted one? and that the actual removal of it could actually mean a cleaner forum?

and one top of this i said something and people agreed?

but anyway and seiously does noone else do ads that doesn't request a swear filter? and that don't make funny noises and huge pop ups?

I think they're :skull::skull::skull::skull:ing awesome.

As for URLs, you can just replace one or all of the letters with an html escape code, like &#97; for a. However, you'll have to restore the escape code every time you edit the post/signature/whatever.

The f word is replaced by 'smurf'. Why that gets a word replacement and s- gets the skulls is anyone's guess.

:) Dr Unne in the Drunk Tank is amusing. :)

crash, both of those words are unforunately censored, just in different ways, and no one should go around the filter.

EDIT: Del beat me to the post.

I still don't get why words that are "swear words" for no obvious reason like the dreaded F-WORD are filtered, but yet duragetory terms like "nigger" are...perfectly appropriate, apparently. o__O
