View Full Version : Ultima Weapon not so….Ultima.

About a year ago, I took it upon myself to fight the second hardest boss in FF8, Ultima Weapon. I increased my level up to 100, the proceeded to the bottom of the research facility. I was then haplessly annihilated around 20 times before I managed to beat the little s@#$, taking absolute pride in my achievement afterwards.

However, yesterday I took it upon myself to once again take up the challenge of Ultima Weapon on a new save file. My highest level on a character was Squall at level 46, and I think my lowest was Rinoa at level 29. Basically, the battle went as follows:

UW uses Light Pillar on Squall: Squall=dead.
Irvine uses revive on Squall: Squall back up to full HP.
UW attacks Irvine: insignificant damage.
Rinoa draws Eden
UW uses Gravija: All characters on critical HP.
Squall uses Renzokuken: no bonus attack
Rinoa casts haste on Squall.
UW uses Meteor: no characters dead.
Squall uses Renzokuken: No bonus attack
UW= Dead.

So basically, in the space of 3 minutes, I beat an optional boss that took me 20 tries the first time.

So here is my question: Does anyone know the calculations that determine Ultima Weapons stats? Obviously, it was much easier since I was at a lower level, but still; 3 MINUTES?

Thoughts?

It isn't about levels in Final Fantasy VIII, it's about how well you're prepared junction wise really. Monsters and bosses level up according to your levels, so if you're level 100, so is Ultima Weapon.

At Lv100 I pwned Ultima Weapon because I had 50+ level ups with the bionus, so Squall had 255 Str and such. XD

But I think that the pwnage now will be better. I mean, Ultima Weapon Lv9... lol XD

i always level up to 100 to make the game harder and easier in some ways.to beat ultima i got sqall down to low health and use my hero.(i only had one.)then i used renzokuken a few times and killed him.i could have beaten him without that but it would take more strategy and more time.and alsopeople say omegas the hardest boss but if you are prepared and ready if you are a level1 he only has 111105hp and i bet ultima would only have about 25000hp at lvlone so i level up to 100 to make the game more challenging.(its still easy though.)

In my opinion, Ultima Weapon IS the toughest boss in the game... but only when fought on level 100. At level 29-46, he's indeed very easy.

Here's Ultima Weapons stats at level 100:

HP: 160000
Str: 254
Vit: 188
Mag: 213
Spr: 160
Spd: 145
Eva: 5

His Strength and Speed is far superior to ANY other boss in the game at level 100 and his defense is also extremely high... but at level 46, his stats are nothing to brag about since they are actually pretty low. Ultima Weapon's stats varies a lot depending on his level, much more than most other bosses and enemies. On any level lower than 80, Ultima Weapon will hardly ever be a problem. But at level 90+, he's sometimes the toughest boss in the game.

Also... the fact that his attacks are random may make him hard one time but easy another. But overall... Ultima Weapon is the toughest boss in this game, in my opinion.

I wasn't bragging, and it was level 46, not 26. If I wanted to brag, I would have tried fighting him without GF's Etc. I was simply asking how your level affects Ultima's stats. And I guess you gave me that information, thanks.

Ops... *edits* :D

Oh, and you missunderstood me. When I said:
but at level 46, it's nothing to brag about at all. I meant that Ultima Weapons STATS is nothing to brag about aka Ultima Weapon's stats suck at such a low level, NOT that you were braging or something!

Sorry, I guess I should have made that clear. :p *edits that too*

I remember fighting Ultima, I never used abilities like revive and recover because someone told me that they weren't worth it. Boy what a sad man I was when he used light pillar...

i suppose in many ways ultima is the hardest but is still quite arguably stronger than omega.

Even though Ultima Weapon (at level 100) have higher in Str, Mag, Spr and much more than twice Omega's speed, Omega would still be considered statically stronger since his HP is so incredibly high. However... it's the fact that Omega is predictable that may make Ultima Weapon stronger.

Never found Omega, but does'nt he have an attack wich does 9999 dmg on the entire party? So long since I've played, does FFVIII have a auto-life spell? If not there is no way to beat him if he uses this... unless you use hero... K i pretty much answered my own question here excuse me =/.

It only does 9998 damage.

I love how the maxing your characters to cremate the enemy backfires in FFVIII. Its a delightful part of the game.

Omega Weapon's Medigo Flame deals, as rubah noted, 9998 damage to all characters. While full health and 9999 max HP can circumvent this attack, it's also possible to have a GF "block" it by taking the damage for the character during the summoning process.

Omega Weapon also has Light Pillar, which has the same effect as when Ultima Weapon uses it. One target will take 9999 damage.

Once you've used Phoenix in battle, it will sometimes appear during random battles and perform Rebirth Flame, reviving KO'ed characters, which can save the party from annihilation. This is the closest FFVIII comes to having an Auto-Life type spell.

And, yes, invincibility items guard against anything, although Omega's predictability removes most of the difficulty from the battle. They're really not necessary.

Not really.

Leveling your characters up without any of the status benefits will backfire.
Leveling your characters up with four of them will allow you to pwnze anything and junction less magic.

Still... the most powerful party is a level 9 party with the best Junctioning and best Weapons. You can kill bosses in a singel phsycical blow sometimes. :p

Like the three Seifer fights, the two Raijin/Fujin fights, Iron Clad, and Disc 1 Edea? XD

Well, back to the topic o.o

Terra Break can be reduced by having high Vit, Protect, invisibility items/Invincible Moon, Defending, or having a GF take most of the damage.

My frist tries against Omega I did the last one. XD

Well, it depends. If you use the stat Bonus abilities as you go up, it won't harm you. Of course, you could just keep your levels low and use Devour and get the same results while your enemies stayed weak, but that's a much slower process.

Plus you need to draw Eden from and defeat Ultima Weapon/Tiamat first. x.x
Or to use a Hungry Cookpot, a oh-so-rare item. T_T

With Angelo Search, hungreeeee cookerpots are anything but totally rare.

But Angelo Search is tricky to activate. I don't plan to leave my console turned on 9+ hours just to get items.

Devour is useless anyway. *shot*

PS: Ultima Weapon at Lv9~12 WAS a sucker. XD I kept on Drawing Ultima form him, oly using Phoenix Downs/Revive when Light Pillar. His other attacks couldn't kill me anyway.

I was absorbing Quake. Even if I wasn't, It would deal 200 damage.
Gravija can't kill you, obviously.
His sword slash dealt 200 damage.
And... without Shell... his Meteor dealt 82 DAMAGE PER METEOR LOL XD

Well I find that casting triple on one person and make them use aura on everybody makes battles a LOT easier. Ultima weapon was defeated pretty quickly for me. It was harder trying to get there seeing as i couldn't run away.

Ultima Weapon's levels are the same as yours, yes. And the higher the level, the harder. Even if you've got status boosting stuff when you're leveling up. At low levels he's a pushover. At high levels he's the most deadly enemy in the game.
