I'm going to go on a hard and difficult journey...beating FF1 with all Black Mages. I was wondering if anbody had advice on how to approach this.
Thank You!

I've done it. It's not that hard once you get the better spells. (Elfheim). Stock up on healing items, though. I'm currently doing a solo black mage.
P.S. Love the avatar. :D

make sure to level up plenty so you dont get wiped out from low health and always have plenty of healing items and ethers and make sure the first thing you do when you get to a town is buy everything including spells armour e.c.t

What version are you playing? Assuming you are playing any version besides FFI:DoS, there are no Ethers. So keep stocked up on HEALs, and grab all of the best equipment you can get. I can't say whether or not it would be better to have one BW with a Masamune at the end getting FAST/TMPRed by the other ones or to just NUKE the crap outta Chaos, the former may be a possiblity though.
Also, it's not necessary for each BM to have many spells from a particular level, only the ones that you will be using consistently with all of them. Keeping this in mind will also help you cut down on cost, that magic is expensive as you start you journey!

Black maging is tough but essectial since you are doing a all BM/BW group you should mix the spells up with all BW so they are ready for anything.

Hey if your feeling soft bring a white mage. LOL [if you do]
done it and its easy. ok first your task is only spells u need. fir and lit for lev 1 and ice for lev 2. then beeline for fir2. take a bunch of healing and head for the pennisula of power and save with a tent. then dilly around and kill some fr wolf or zombulls if lucky.
for items always carry 99 potions and purs. tons of houses too if affordiable. dont buy anything you dont need and save all the time. kill a set of ogres save. lev up save. just remember to save always.
dont forget to lev up tons.
spells
1-fire lit sleep(not neccessary)
2-ice(all i found neccessary)
3-fir2 lit2 hold(ok on kary)
4-ice2 fast(again not neccessary)
5-fir3 warp bane(all kill and tiamate)
6-lit3 quake(all killer) rub(ok killer)
7-ice3 brak(killer)
8-nuke xxxx(killer) zap(all killer)
my spells are simple but u dont need most. ones with () next to them arnt neccessary. i beat it only with the fir and lits and ice and nuks from the levs.

people are silly with all the FF1 obsessions of beating it in weird ways. I only played this once ever. I couldn't stand playing through the original more than once. To sit there an hour per level looking at little 8 bit sprites mime fight each other for the millionth time, dear dog no, I get the picture after 12 times, and the story part is small enough to remember perfectly. And the remake is very nice, but I doubt I'd want to play it over and over.
IOW, for the love of mog pick a party that kicks rear not a stunted one! well it seems torturous to me to hinder yourself when you don't get a better ending, or anything, for facing up to the challenge. of course that's just my opinion.

For the Original FF1:
I never use magic.
For the DoS:
Focus on leveling up in the begining then cross the bridge. As I said in my first post mix the spell up so you can have one mage kill the other fight with weapons and the others...they can......watch.

We do it for the Bragging Rights!
We do it for the Bragging Rights!
not just bragging rights but think of how this affects later versions. I mean you develop rudementry stadigy right here. 4 wms beat the game
1 wm only hard but done it. you see its all about glory. since this game is only truly and totaly awsome.

I was going to try a party of 4 White Mages (surprise) but then I thought of how annoying the all-too-frequent random battles are. Every five steps you have to spend 5 minutes fighting a group of monsters, when all you want to to is see what's at the end of the darn corridor!
But yeah, go for it!
But thats the fun of the 4 wm party till you get the zues-gauntlets thor hammer mage staff and the black armor then u have to go the long rounte and take time

4WM ain't so tough with class change and FADE. BM is hard until you get BANE and FIR3. 4BB is what's REALLY tough...
BM has low HP. So keep lots of healing items, or cheat by bringing along a White Mage.
Yeah. Bragging rights. I gave up on the difficult parties though, it's hard enough with my kickass Knight/Ninja/WW/BW party.

I hear that a solo thief game is the hardest of them all.

you're funny... while it is a challenge.. it's not as bad as single WM (as in White MAGE, no class change). I would classify Solo Theif as second to hardest party challenge. Think of it like this... the Solo White Mage has:
Low-Medium HP
Low Attack
Low Defense
Anti-Undead Spells
High... um.... Spirit? (forget the original name of this stat)
No good high lvl spells (ie. CUR4)
Need to take time to add INVS and RUSE (Invis and Protect in later versions I beleive), especially later game.
and of course the annoying and ungodly waste of time to get thru the game, with the long battles.
The only problem I had with solo theif was that you can't heal in battle (NES... only true way to experience FF1) and midgame is a b****
Chaos for any solo adventure is pretty easy, Masamune turns every class into a Knight, for just one fight (heh I rhymed!).

Yes but a white mage can at least keep himself alive, so while you'll have to take longer in the fight, as long as you keep over-levelling you'll never really be kept on the ropes. Thieves have better attack than white mages, but once your HP starts dropping, until you get the heal helmet you're pretty much boned. Even then, the best healing item in the game doesn't restore all that much HP, so when you do lose HP it counts for a lot more.

over lvl the theif too. build him up beyond what a normal "party" would be at different times in the game. not too hard to do, even on NES seeing as how you get 4x the exp when you're solo. Every class is tough to play solo at some point... because each class has a major drawback just like they have an advantage. I've heard ppl say that Red Mage is more balanced, but this is not true either.. while he is a jack-of-all-trades, he is definitely a master of none.
White Mage and Theif are the hardest, IMO based from my experiences with both, WM was harder for me... Maybe I got lucky with Theif

Exactly *HOW* do you arrange a single player party when you have no choice but to have 4 people in it from the start of the game?
i think you kill the other 3 off and never revive them

exactly... just a word off advice.. if you want to try a single character party just know that you need at least some exp (ie. beat the game before or know what spells the mages should take) and some patience. WIthout these, you will get frustrated and bored. Unfortunately I don't have much patience, but I had alot of free time when I did the White Mage and Theif ones(no school and no job helps you get free time:D .
