Ladies and gentlemen, the fun has arrived.

Well, the hype has, anyway. Eyes on Final Fantasy fantasy football is back! Although the season doesn't start for... oh, another two months, it's never too early to get into the game. As commissioner of the 2005 edition of the EoFFFFL, I extend an invitation to anyone that wants to play that just hasn't signed up already.

League ID: 35132
Password: aaronrodgers

Just head to Yahoo Fantasy Sports (http://fantasysports.yahoo.com), click the sign up button (be sure to click the one that says free fantasy football), enter the above information and get ready for a competitive season!

For everyone that's signed up already, feel free to talk trash and, more importantly, discuss the scoring and all that in case there's something you disagree with.

Also, since it seems that it will be difficult to find a draft date on Yahoo that can accomodate everyone, I thought that we might be able to make our picks over an AIM conference or in #eoff or something like that, and then I could post the real-time results to reflect the players we draft. It is possible to hold a draft elsewhere and then post the results on Yahoo, I did it last year as the commish of a different league. This method won't tie us to Yahoo, which might be better, anyway.

If it sounds like a good idea to you, let me know. Either way, please let me know the nights of the week that will work best with your schedule. A draft just isn't as much fun if everyone isn't there!

I am prepared to defend my crown, but 16 teams? I thought 14 was too many. And we already have 10, not even including Romeo and three of the playoff teams from previous years. Who are some of these people, Fres? Each and every one of of you better play hard, or else. *enforce mode*

Another chapter in our epic rivalry.

Strider
07-14-2005, 05:46 AM
I thought of another great idea.

Slight variation on my first idea, except we phone in our picks one at a time! Hey, that's how the pros do it.

Del Murder
07-14-2005, 06:11 AM
There should also be 15 minutes between picks so that the draft lasts three days.

Raistlin
07-16-2005, 05:17 PM
Wait, what's wrong with the normal yahoo draft again? Sure, some people may not be able to make it(hey, I might not even), but that's what "pre-draft rankings" are for.

Although I am all-for calling in picks to keep Fresno busy for days. But we also have to be able to trade picks - and Fresno has to keep everything updated.

Del Murder
07-16-2005, 05:28 PM
You can't trade picks unless this was a new feature added to Yahoo this year.

Raistlin
07-16-2005, 05:30 PM
I doubt we can for Yahoo. But I meant if we called in our picks, we also should be able to trade. I mean, otherwise why do you need the whole 15 minutes? :p

eestlinc
07-16-2005, 05:38 PM
let's all meet in Branson, MO to hold our draft in a smoky room.

Del Murder
07-23-2005, 11:27 PM
Yes we welcome all new comers who will join, complain about the draft time, and then promptly forget about the league after the second week, not without trading all their good players to Fresno and champ in beforehand.

Okay, here's what we'll do.

The cutoff will be fourteen teams, because Del makes a good point. With 16 teams, we won't even get a chance to play every other team because of our playoff schedule. That means there's space for one more person that wants in, everyone else is SOL unless someone decides to back out for whatever reason.

Also, since it doesn't seem like the AIM conference idea didn't receive overwhelming support, we'll stick with the Yahoo draft, which means the draft will be on a Saturday.

EDIT:

Okay, we've got Mr. McAwesome to fill the last spot, so we're all set unless anyone wants to send me twenty bucks to convince me to let 'em into the league. I mean, um... >_>

Also, if no one has any objections, we can pick our draft order by pulling names out of my trusty San Francisco Giants hat. Yea or nay?

Zell's Fists of Fury
07-27-2005, 10:03 PM
Go Team Discovery Chan.!

I hope I get the best player in the leauge in the draft again. That way I can ride him through the first half, and then be crushed when he gets hurt mid-way through with a season-ending injury. Hey, it's happened the last two years.

Strider
07-27-2005, 10:30 PM
You could always not draft Priest Holmes.

Del Murder
07-28-2005, 01:37 AM
It doesn't matter, who, really. Spiff also needs to get Chirs Chambers so that he can drop him and Spuuky can pick him up. This is also tradition.

14 worked well last year so I approve of this. No Rocko, no 4, no Proto. That's half of the people who have ever made the playoffs. You guys have big shoes to fill!

RSL
07-28-2005, 04:04 AM
I hope I can fill their shoes!

Oh I guess I will miss the draft yet again. Such is life.

Is it natural for me to be more nervous about the draft than about the actual season? I just know I'm going to screw it up. :(

Del Murder
07-29-2005, 03:20 AM
If you are concerned about the draft you could always let Yahoo do it. It's drafted me two championship teams.

RSL
07-29-2005, 04:01 AM
It drafted me some pretty good receivers last year.

Strider
07-29-2005, 07:40 PM
Nah, forget it. I can't wait any longer. I'm the Commish, dang it, and I'm gonna determine our draft order right now!

I figure that also gives us all a little under a month to plan our draft strategy. I'll draw names out one at a time, with the first name being drawn receiving the last (14th) pick in the first round. Then we'll go 13th, 12th, 11th and so on and so forth. Any objections?

muchacho
07-29-2005, 07:52 PM

I sincerely doubt anyone cares how you pick the order, silly kid.

Make sure you have the trades on 'commisioner approved' so that we don't get something like we did in baseball. Muhsin Muhammad for Peyton Manning or something rediculous like that.

Hawkeye
07-30-2005, 02:03 AM

ANYWAYS let the games begin

Strider
07-30-2005, 07:47 PM
Alright, here's the draft order as determined by me. The special assistant to the commissioner (my sister), is helping me out on this one.

Also, for those who don't know, the draft works in a snake pattern, so the person with the last pick in the 1st round will get the first pick in the 2nd round. The team with the first pick in the 1st round will get the last pick in the 2nd round. That kind of thing.

Without further ado, the draft order.

14. Oakland Enforcers (Del Murder)
13. Banana Peppers (RSL)
12. Valley Fever (Fresno)
11. Boston Knights (VampireCrono)
10. The Burning Legion (Aexoden)
9. The Wizards (Raistlin)
8. Team Discovery Channel (Sexy McAwesome)
7. OMGWTFBBQ (Hawkeye)
6. The Vagabonds (The Captain)
5. 6-10 Wildcard (Spuuky)
4. Seven Nation Army (eestlinc)
3. The Dragons (CloudDragon)
2. DeathsHand (DeathsHand)

Which means the first pick in the draft goes to the Gee Whizzinators, controlled by um... I forget his name.

The draft is August 27, gentlemen. Better get to work.

Del Murder
07-31-2005, 02:30 AM
First in baseball and last in football? Interesting. I'd better choose my first and second picks wisely because I doubt there will be anything great by the time my third round comes.

Spuuky in between Cap and champ...ouch.

This will be exciting with all the new faces. Plenty of new people for me to beat. :D

For those of you who are interested in other fantasy football-ish games, I've created some additional groups at Yahoo! for the following games. All of the groups can take up to 50 people (and the number of people doesn't change the game at all) so join yourself, and ask your grandma to join. The more the merrier? Or something. Or maybe I'll be the only one. Whatever. All of these games are at Yahoo! Fantasy Sports. I'm not about to join fifty million sites.

Salary Cap Football
You have $100 million to spend each week on whatever players you want. It seems you can create one team, and this team will be ranked in both any private groups you've joined and publicly against the rest of Yahoo!.
Group #: 4937
Password: touchdown

Survival Football
Your task is to correctly choose the winner of one game a week. Sounds easy? Well, you can only choose each team once. Choose wisely.
Group #: 5663
Password: touchdown

Neither of these games really have any options, so I went ahead and created them, and if someone joins, great. If not, I can play by myself. ;) There's also the standard pick-em game, and if anyone's interested, there are options to set, and that might need discussion. I don't expect any interest though. :p

Raistlin
09-12-2005, 05:02 AM
I had a horrible week. I realize this is my first week of fantasy football ever, but I can't see how it could get much worse than this:

1. Having your first WR, second RB, and kicker going up against one of the best defenses in the league.
2. Neither of my RBs scoring a single touchdown.
3. My third WR had 5 points. My fourth WR (benched) had 21 points.
4. Defense going against the highest-scoring offense in the league.
5. Going up against the guy who has Tomlinson, Owens, and Pittsburgh defense (who played Tennessee today).

I have a MUCH easier line-up next week. I expect my receivers to step up, and LaMont Jordan should have his way with Kansas City's defense.

I had an even worse week in my other league, but I won't get into that. :(

Yeah that was a great game. I think McMichael got a TD. I should have gotten him this year. Not having anything from the TE position is really hurting me, but the Colts have to start destroying defenses sooner or later. I need receiver help.

Raistlin

Del Murder

No team has ever gone up against one of the top two scorers for any given week. The record for this feat is 8 times, which was of course set by Strider last year (he ended up with the most total points but didn't even make the consolation bracket). To give this amazing feat some perspective, the runner up is 5 times. After that no one has more than 4, with 5 teams never having faced one of the top two in any week.

Raistlin

Speak of the devil, I go up against good ol' Strider next week. I have a good matchup, but like half my freakin' team's on byes. I struggled to work around it, but it looks like I may have to play without a TE.

there are plenty of halfway decent TEs on FA.

I just need production out of QB. I'm pissed about Carson Palmer, though. Only reason I didn't take him was because he has the same bye week as Brees. Good move, there.

Strider
09-20-2005, 07:16 PM
Carson Palmer was the reason I didn't pick someone like Marc Bulger or Brett Favre. I knew he'd be there when I wanted him.

I know there are decent TEs. But I don't have anyone I can drop...

Oh, now you've done it! Wright will be mine with this number one waiver priority.

RSL

Haha, I wasted my number 2 waiver priority on Pearless (sp?) Price and then dumped him when I needed a backup kicker. I don't know why I wanted that guy.

Personally, I'm waiting for Romeo to drop Culpepper.

RSL

Raistlin
09-21-2005, 04:50 AM
Heh, it'll be interesting to see how long Culpepper stays on spuuky's lineup.

Oh, and his name's Peerless Price, which seems ironically appropriate considering you dropped him in favor of a backup kicker.

I'm once again stuck about which Jake to start. Delhomme is usually the safer bet, but the Panthers have really brought back the power running game, so he might not put up a lot of points. Plummer is always risky, especially with the Chiefs D much improved, but I think he'll put up more points because it's a home game. Well, I suppose I'll just have to wait and see.

Take care all.

Hawkeye

Im hearing that he might be benched with the Broncos if he's not doing adequetly in his games for the next weeks about to come up.

145.08 points is probably going to win every time. Good job Raistlin! I scored 126 but it's looking like I could've scored 60 and still won. Not a good week for Spiff.

Raistlin
10-03-2005, 02:59 AM
This was a week where just about everyone played up. Everyone on my team except Keyshawn Johnson (2 points) and Cooley (8 points - still solid from a TE) was in double-digits. Even my kicker earned me 15 points.

Plaxico also rules. I love my WRs, which is why next week with Moss and Plaxico on bye, I'm in for a tough challenge.

eestlinc
10-03-2005, 03:34 AM
I wasn't active in 2002 for the football league, which was points and Del won. Then in 2003 I joined in and won the league. Last year Del defeated me in the championship game to reclaim his title. This year we both suck.

Del Murder
10-03-2005, 04:34 AM
Too bad we can't win games on reputation alone. Still, I am having fun, bogus trades aside. I think playing each other on our most crucial bye weeks will really test our managerial skill. I'm looking forward to it.

So much changes in the NFL. Three years ago the Raiders were the best team in the AFC. At least they won today. I can trade a few fantasy wins for Oakland wins.

10-03-2005, 04:44 AM

I wonder if they ever considered sending him in for a 60-yard field goal?

Raistlin
10-03-2005, 10:26 PM
Why just 60? He was kicking field goals from their own 30, which would be roughly an 87 yard FG.

RSL
10-03-2005, 11:59 PM
I'm no kicker, but I think kicking off of a tee is a little easier than kicking a field goal over a bunch of people with a person holding it. It was still impressive though!

Hawkeye: yeah, two leagues is tough. I lost both of my first two games. But then I've been on a 3-game winning streak in my other league. However, unless LT gets another 40 point game (or Pittsburgh's kicker gets 15+ points), this could be the first week that I win in EoFFFFL but lose in my college's league.

He's a friend of Mr Rocko. I think he joined pretty much to play in fantasy leagues.

That's pretty accurate, though I did lurk for awhile before joining and have played through FFs IV-X2.

Anyway, Boston Kinghts finally updated his lineup, sort of. He still has two guys on bye, but at least he plugged Jamal Lewis into a starting RB spot this week. Hopefully, I'll snap my two-game skid against him.

I'm selfishly pulling for Eest to win out, just so I can say I was the only one to beat him. :D

Nabeshinji
10-20-2005, 05:57 PM
Not sure about Rocko; when he joined the FF league last year, he said he had basically stopped coming to this forum. I admired his dedication: for the draft in 2003 he had to be awake at 4:30 am Hawaii time. When I watch Broncos games, I always think of his faith in "the great" Ashley Lelie.

Lelie is of course a member of the great 6-10 Wildcard. I am sad that our Hawaiian friend didn't make it this year, but at least shinji did, and he likely has the best team of all of us! If it wasn't for the fact that TO hasn't finisned a season in 4 years, I'd pick him for the title.

However, my WRs are dropping like flies. :(

I'm pretty sure Burress will play, but it's not a good sign to have your two best WRs listed as questionable or worse on the injury report.

EDIT: I think this is part of eestlinc's curse.

*whistle*

hey, my WRs have been dropping like flies too, the only difference is they weren't good to begin with. Actually Roy Williams is very good, he's just a Lion.
