According from what Ifalna(did i spell that right?) said about Jenova coming and infecting the cetras or ancients with a virus that turned them into monsters, was that actually mako being used for the first time?

I hate it when people say that.
I never really thought about it being mako. I thought it was Geostigma or something.

I agree, its not graphics that make the game.
I didnt know what it was, i just thaught they were infected with a virus, never thaught of Mako.

i just thought it was some sort of a disease that the cetra were not used to, kinda like the europeansa and the native americans. ask Squall of SeeD he might have a theory or something
ask Squall of SeeD he might have a theory or something
There is no "might" about it, he will and he'll clear all this up for us.
for the record, i know its not the graphics that make the game!
I dont think it was mako, because mako was around before jenova appeared and it was said that jenova "brought the disease to the planet" (sorry if that was a complete mis quote)
neways best get Squall of SeeD's opinion...

Hmm.. I never though of things in that way. I have always just assumed that it was some sort of literal virus that infected people, and did the damage.

I think Jenova itself was that virus. Remember how everyone who was infected by Jenova cells eventually lost control of themselves and turned more or less ill? Jenova came from another planet, so it wasn't a part of the Lifestream, so no species born from the Planet (the Lifestream) could perfectly cope with Jenova's cells.
Yep! so we all agree it must hav been jenovas cells?

well i dont belive this has anything to do with jenova cells. when jenova came down she would be a compleate entity and mako reactores hadednt been invented then. it was the mako reacotres fault people turned into monsters as an experiment. jenova intenonly carried a virus to trun the cetra into monsters.

After racking my brain for the last half an hour I came up with this:
(Off advent children trailer)
Vincent Valentine: Geostigma is... what happens when the body overcompensates for it's unwelcome guest.
Now geostigma is a disease to do with the mako and jenova cells in your body conflicting to take control of your body. Now in FFVII there was no geostigma that we had heard of but we knew that people with Jenova cells had unusual mutations. Like cloud being a so-called clone, and sephiroth's power to revive himself. Now the mutants might just have had a higher percentage of Jenova cells in their body than mako, hence more mutation.
but thats just my guess

this explains a theory of the Jenova cells and Geostigma in FFVII:AC

It seems unlikely that Geostigma corresponds directly to the transformation of the Cetra. Geostigma involves the conflict between a Gaian's Spirit Energy and JENOVA. This internal conflict can lead to severe sickness, and even death. However, there is no record of the Cetra dying from JENOVA's "virus," nor any record of eluding transformation.
According to Ifalna (that's the spelling, by the way), in the Icicle Inn tapes:
Ifalna: I'm all right... When the Cetra... were preparing to part with the
land they loved... That's when it appeared! It looked like... our... our dead
mothers... and our dead brothers. Showing us spectres of their past.
Gast: Who is the person that appeared at the North Cave? I haven't any idea.
Ifalna: That's when the one who injured the Planet... or the 'crisis from the
sky', as we call him, came. He first approached as a friend, deceived them,
and finally...... gave them the virus. The Cetra were attacked by the virus
and went mad... transforming into monsters. Then, just as he had at the
Knowlespole. He approached other Cetra clans...... infecting them with... the
virus...
Gast: You don't look well... Let's call it a day.
It's certain, however, that JENOVA's actions did not involve Mako. Recall that Mako is condensed Spirit Energy, the stuff of the Lifestream. Not only is the Lifestream inarguably opposed to JENOVA, but Mako in concentrations that can induce mutation does not seem to occur naturally.
Ultimately, the game suggests that both JENOVA and Mako are capable of causing physical mutation. In this case, it was certainly JENOVA, and not Mako.
I dont think it was mako, because mako was around before jenova appeared and it was said that jenova "brought the disease to the planet" (sorry if that was a complete mis quote)
Well, artificially produced Mako was discovered by Shinra long after JENOVA landed and was sealed. Spirit Energy was certainly around before the JENOVA impact. Mako and Spirit Energy are not synonymous, however, even though certain segments of the game lamentably do much to muddle that fact.
I've provided the entirety of the quote above.

WOW!!! :bigbiggri I'm so convinced! Thanks for explaining it to me!

Yeah, as already said, it had nothing to do with Geostigma. It's the side-effects of an internal conflict between one's Spirit Energy and JENOVA's Cells. The Virus that JENOVA unleashed was most likely its own Cells, something which we know affects people on a mental level and which causes physical transformations.
Kudos to all of you who figured that out.
wow, iv just been lookin through your geosite thing and its SOOOOOOOOOOOO detailed, either you have a LOT of time to yourself or your a huge FF7 fan...
by the way your theories are great! I never thought of Vincent as being Sephiroths Dad!! There are so many things about ff7 i wasnt clear about (which also, for me makes ff7 more interestin then the other ffs) and i pretty much get it all now... Thxies ;)
