Square Enix Grand Tournament

All right, with the relatively good success of my Grand Tournament in Arts & Writing, I am bringing this here, where the Final Fantasy characters will duke it out in narrative-style battles. The battles will be written by myself, but the outcome is not yet decided upon as I will play out the fight in my head and decide the outcome based on what characters I think would do better. I am using a fantastical realism setting, which means that the fantasy elements are permitted, but there is realism involved. Fire magic or Lightning magic does a great deal of damage, Cloud can wield that sword of his (albeit only with both hands and he can't swing it that fast), Squall does have a gunblade (but the bullets lack significant range and power), etc. So, to get this started, I am listing the games that are currently entered into the tournament. I may add more if I have good suggestions. You may vote for one character from each game to represent that game in the tournament, and the tournament will when I have enough votes for the characters needed and have finalized the game roster.

You may ONLY vote on characters who you get on your party with some permanency, I.E. characters like Yang, Tellah, Fu-So-Ya, etc. are permissible because they are part of the "good guys" who fight for you, but characters like Seifer, Beatrix, and Edea are not permissible because they are just event joins.

In Grand Tournament tradition, I am allowing betting on the matches, which is transferable to other Grand Tournament events. Everyone gets 5,000 Gil, and since this is a new thing I am allowing this to be a seperate account from those already in the Grand Tournament. The accounts may be merged after the games. Betting is a double or nothing, you can bet however much Gil you wish on a fight and if you pick a winner, you get double what you bet, if you pick a loser, you lose what you bet. Voting for the characters starts now, let's get a good list of fighters together. Remember, only characters who join the party with some permanency.

He is *Gordons brother who isn't playable in FF2. But in FF2 DoS when you unlock the Souls of rebirth (I think...) you will play the game with another storyline. I think it's the past. And that is when you get to play as **scott. So bassically he is really not playable in the Origins n'or FF2J which kinda makes him an NPC in the real storyline. The reason for this is because he dies...

If you submit an application for this, bear in mind that you will never be able to bet on any of the fights, nor will you be permitted to vote for characters (except in some cases that I will explain when I've picked the writers). This money is a seperate account from the money people have in the Fantasy Grand Tournament I am also running, but the two accounts will merge after this one and will be combined from there on out. Also, every new tournament will grant all people 2,500 on top of whatever they already have, so you aren't TOTALLY screwed if you lose all your money, although betting wisely is advised.

DRK Mithra aren't really efficient either per se.In my opinion they're the best DRKs in the game. The ability to hit often is much more important than the ability to hit hard, especially when you start getting to upper levels.

Plus they look the best in Dark Knight AF.

Free-roaming cameras zoomed around the massive, domed stadium floating within the middle of a swirling vortex as an anxious crowd awaited the first match.

"Ladies and gentlemen," a voice said, echoing throughout the stadium. "Welcome to the first match of the Grand Tournament. Our battle today is between the two very different warriors. Please, welcome Vincent Valentine and Erdrick!"

Two steel doors swung upward, admitting two figures into the spherical glass arena. The ground was packed dirt, with no obstacles to impede the fight.

One figure was tall and pale, with disheveled black hair held back by a red headband and a red cloak. In his right hand he held a pistol with several shining gems embedded in it, and on his left arm was a metal gauntlet.

The other wore archaic blue armor that covered his body almost completely, leaving only the face area unprotected. In one hand he held an antique sword, rune inlaid and humming with power. In his other hand he held a silver shield, round in shape and fairly large in size.

"BEGIN!" the announcer shouted.

"BLAZEMORE!" Erdrick shouted, hurling a large fireball at Vincent.

Vincent's eyes narrowed slightly, and he jumped to the side, taking aim at Erdrick as the fireball exploded where he was standing.

However, Erdrick wasn't there anymore, having moved while Vincent was diving. Rolling once on the ground, Vincent came up with his gun extended outward, eyes scanning the area.

Almost too late, Vincent ducked under a horizontal sword stroke that would have taken off his head. Before he could do anything else Erdrick's shield came out of nowhere and blasted him off his feet, knocking him backwards. Reversing his grip on his sword, Erdrick rushed forward, attempting to drive his sword through Vincent's chest and end the battle.

As he came upon Vincent's prone form, three loud cracks sounded throughout the arena.

Erdrick and Vincent seemed to both stop, Erdrick's sword inches from Vincent's chest, before Erdrick slumped to the ground, clutching his chest.

As Vincent got to his feet, the Cleric and White Mage unit rushed onto the field, casting some healing spells and dumping Erdrick on a stretcher, carting him off to the infirmary.

All fights take place in the same arena. Oh yes, and I've decided to give Firion pants *shudder*

I'm also using a standardized magic form for Final Fantasy, I will be using the "-ra -aga" system, since it sounds better from an incantation standpoint.

And remember, I'm trying to equalize the field with this, so keep in mind that this is the characters in their mid-range level and abilities. The full spellcasters will probably have the -aga spells, but Ultima, Flare, Holy, and the like will probably not be making an appearance, at least not until the later fights.

The steel doors opened once again to admit the next two contestants. One was a young woman with flowing pink hair dressed in a red cloak, tunic, trousers, and a wide-brimmed red hat with a white feather protruding from it. She had a breastplate over her chest, a shield, and a sword, which she carried with practiced ease.

The other combatant was a young, brown-haired man with a flowing red cape and a brown metal armor that covered his entire body, except for his head. He held a long sword and short sword, one in either hand, and he was obviously well muscled.

"Our next match is between the Faris and Firion, two warriors skilled in sword and sorcery. BEGIN!" the announcer shouted.

Faris pointed her sword at Firion, magic flowing through it.

"FIRA!" she shouted, a wave of flame bursting from her blade. Firion dodged to the ground and rolled once, magic gathering in his hands. He recovered to a standing position and brought his swords together with a loud, steely clang.

"THUNDARA!" he howled, thick bolts of lighting bursting from his crossed blades and hurling themselves at Faris.

Faris furrowed her brow and brought her shield forward in an attempt to block the bolts. They slammed into her with great force, causing damage but not enough to be serious.

Faris muttered a few very unladylike imprecautions under her breath and her sword and shield glowed with white light.

"Cure!" she shouted, a wave of blue light enshrouding her and healing her wounds.

As Faris healed herself Firion shot forward, slashing at Faris's neck with his longsword. Faris raised her shield, blocking the attack. Quickly, Firion brought his short sword up to stab Faris, but she bat it aside with her own longsword, which began to glow.

"BLIZZARA!" she howled, whipping her blade outward at Firion.

Firion gasped in pain as shards of ice burst forth, pounding his body and leaving bloody cuts all over. Grimacing in pain, he drew back, but Faris followed, moving in and bashing at his face with her shield.

Firion brought both swords up to block the attack, only to gasp in pain as Faris's sword slid neatly into his chest. Gasping for air, Firion slid off the blade and onto the ground, where he was immediately beset upon by the Cleric and White Mage unit to tend to his wounds.

I want to establish that this farce er... fight was not my idea. I would NOT have picked the Joker to represent DQIII, but, I shall go with the vote.

The gates opened once again, admitting a rather fat-looking man in a clown suit with a painted face and bright, polka-dotted and frilly clothing and a man dressed in armor that resembled a dragon, carrying a spear in his left hand and a shield in his right.

"The next match is between the Joker and the Dragoon Captain of Baron, Kain!" the announcer shouted as both combatants stepped up to the line.

"BEGIN!"

The Joker giggled and danced around Kain, singing a rather bawdy song.

"Hey!" Kain said. "Stop that! We're supposed to be fighting!"

The Joker stuck his tongue out at Kain and flipped him a rude gesture. Kain did not look amused.

"Stop that! Stand and fight me!" he growled.

The Joker giggled and mooned Kain, before skipping around him and singing a silly child's song.

"All right, that's it," Kain said, sticking out the haft of his spear. The Joker tripped, falling face-first into the ground.

Kain then proceeded to beat the Joker mercilessly with the staff of his spear.

"I'll... teach... you... to... not... take... me... seriously!" he said through grit teeth as he bludgeoned the Joker into unconciousness. After he was sure the Joker was thoroughly thrashed, he kicked it in the butt once more for good measure and walked off, muttering curses under his breath.

The doors opened once more, admitting a Ninja dressed in a black black gi and a blonde woman bearing a staff. The Ninja's face was masked, and only his eyes could be seen. At his feet was a black and brown dog that snarled viciously. In the Ninja's hands, he held two short swords, and the bulk on his clothing showed that he bore many other weapons as well.

The woman wore an orange cape, light orange skirt, and green top. Her blonde hair was fairly short and combed over in a large wave, and her staff was bulbous on the end.

"The next fight is between Shadow and Bianca! BEGIN!" the announcer shouted.

"Blazemost!" Bianca shouted, hurling a massive ball of fire at Shadow.

Shadow dodged to the side and reached into his gi and withdrew three shurikens, hurling them at Bianca.

Bianca dropped down and swung her cape outward, catching the shurikens and stopping their momentum. Flipping it back, the shurikens fell from the fabric and clanged harmlessly on the ground.

From seemingly out of nowhere, Interceptor leapt at Bianca and brought her to the ground. Bianca shrieked and held her staff out, trying to push Interceptor away so that he could not bite her throat out.

As Bianca struggled to keep Interceptor at bay, Shadow approached her, blades drawn. Suddenly, the expression in his eyes changed.

"INTERCEPTOR! AWAY!" he shouted, diving to the side.

"FIREBOLT!" Bianca shouted as Interceptor leapt off her and ran.

A massive burst of flame engulfed the arena. As it cleared, Bianca was on her feet again and desperately scanning the battlefield. Suddenly, she gasped in pain and fell to the ground, several daggers protruding from her back.

Shadow approached the girl as she lay on the ground, her face contorted in pain.

"Do you yield?" he asked quietly.

Bianca nodded, tears of pain in her eyes.

Shadow shrugged and walked off, Interceptor close behind him.

Not buying into popularity, I'm going to go with Montblanc for 3,000, as Vivi can be clumsy at times. Long live the moogles!

If you'll look at the first post I made, this is fantastical realism, as in they can use the moves they have in the games, but its more realistic, as in if you get hit by Firaga you'll probably get hurt pretty badly, if not killed. But the flip side to that is everything can be dodged.

Montblanc is using the Black Mage base class with Time Magic as secondary.

Oh yes, and there will be no fight tonight due to having to work early tomorrow and work late tonight.

The gates opened once again admitting two more combatants onto the field. One was a small, humanoid being dressed in a large straw hat and blue robes with red trimming. Only two glowing eyes could be seen from beneath the hat, his face was totally black, although whether that was his real face or it was just obscured by the mask was unsure.

The other figure was (somehow) considerably shorter than the humanoid. It was a moogle, with darker fur, a green shirt and pink pants. Both figures held short staves at the ready.

"Our next battle is a duel between Black Mages. Please, welcome to the field Vivi and Montblanc! BEGIN!"

"Firaga!" Vivi shouted, conjuring a massive wave of flame and hurling it at Montblanc.

"Blizzaga!" Montblanc yelled in reply, hurling his ice magic at the oncoming flames. The spells cancelled each other out, leaving behind nothing but a dense wall of steam.

As the steam cleared, Montblanc's piping voice could be heard.

"Haste!"

The battlefield once again became visible and Montblanc zipped around Vivi on his magically quickened legs.

"Thundaga!" he yelled, hurling a torrent of lightning bolts at Vivi.

Vivi ducked to the ground, the bolts flying harmlessly over him.

"Meteor!" he cried.

Several massive chunks of earth flew from the sky, hurtling towards Montblanc. However, with the haste spell in effect, Montblanc dodged them with little problem.

"Flare!" Vivi yelled, a massive burst of magical energy forming in his palm and hurtling towards Montblanc.

"Reflect!" Montblanc yelled in response.

A magical shield formed around him, causing the magical attack to bounce off his shield and move towards Vivi. Desperately, Vivi got to his feet and moved to the side.

"Thundaga!" Montblanc howled, once again sending lightning bolts arcing towards Vivi. This time Vivi couldn't move fast enough and was struck dead on. For a moment, he stood there before his body fell to the ground and began twitching as the White Mage and Cleric team scrambled to his aid.

The gates opened once again and two more figures emerged. One was a woman, with blonde hair and white robes. She wore a pink hood, and carried a staff with a red crystal orb mounted on top of it. The other was a mustached warrior in a pink breastplate, with a red cloak and a red plume atop his helmet. At his side was belted a sword, battle-worn and formidable.

"The next fight is between Varia, the Princess of Moonbrooke, and the warrior Ragnar! BEGIN!"

Ragnar drew his sword and grasped it in both hands, charging forward with the blade held low. Varia closed her eyes and gathered mystic force about her.

"Infernos!" she yelled, calling forth a tornado that swept Ragnar away and tossed him backwards. Ragnar hit the ground hard, and Varia was already preparing another spell as he rose shakily to his feet.

"Surround!" she said, a mist appearing around Ragnar, obscuring his vision. A shadowed form could be seen within the mist as Ragnar moved unsteadily around, trying to figure out where he was.

"Explodet!" the Varia shouted, a massive explosion wracking the area where Ragnar stood and blasting him out of the mist and on to the ground.

This time, he did not rise, and lay motionless as the white mage and cleric unit rushed towards him.

It really depends on how high level Summons Summoner can use. As stated earlier, the first round won't even go past -ara spells, so I guess Summoner couldn't use much past level 3 (the FFIII equivalent of -ara spells.) That would limit it to only being able to use Chocobo, Shiva, and Ramuh.

The doors opened once more to admit two more people onto the battlefield. One was clothed in green robes and had a headband with a horn protruding from the top. The other was an incredibly muscular man with spikey purple hair, a gray vest, gray shorts, and a green sash.

"Our next fight is between the Summoner and Hassan! BEGIN!"

Hassan began running towards the Summoner, picking up speed as he went.

"Chocobo!" the summoner yelled, a magic circle appearing on the ground. As Hassan approached, a feathery yellow bird popped out of the circle and leapt into the air, only to be pounded back to the ground by Hassan's fist. It skidded across the ground and stood shakily with a weak "kweh!".

The summoner rushed over to the Chocobo as Hassan leapt into the air again. Throwing his leg over it, he mounted the chocobo and kicked its flanks. The chocobo sped forward, dodging Hassan's attack with a triumphant "wark!".

As the chocobo sped around the battlefield, Hassan took off in hot pursuit, but the bird was simply too fast for him.

"Ifrit!" the summoner yelled, a red magic circle appearing in the ground. A massive and muscular demon emerged from the ground and charged at Hassan, who began grappling with it. Hassan's muscles bulged as he fought back, but Ifrit's fire was doing much damage to Hassan, causing blisters to appear on his skin and burning some of his hair and flesh due to the proximity. Finally, with a powerful yell, Hassan flipped Ifrit and drove him into the ground, head first. Ifrit howled in pain and vaporized in a torrent of flame that further served to harm Hassan.

"Titan!" the summoner yelled, his weary chocobo now halted on the other end of the field. This time a yellow magic circle appeared on the ground, and a massively muscular man emerged, his proportions even more grotesque than Hassan's. Charging forward, he grabbed Hassan, who was already wounded from his fight with Ifrit, and pinned him on the ground with ease.

"The Summoner is the winner!" the announcer shouted, as the smirking summoner dismounted the chocobo and dismissed his summons.

The gates opened again admitting two more people. One was a tall, lithe woman with long green hair and gold eyes. She wore a white scarf and a tattered red suit, and she moved with a calm and unconcious grace.

The other was a moderately muscular man with brown hair and sharp, angular features. He held a sword, and wore red shorts that were almost kilt-like in nature.

"Our next combatants are Emeralda and Ashley Riot! BEGIN!"

Ashley rushed forward, slashing at Emeralda's neck and going for a quick win. Emeralda's body suddenly constricted, and her hair billowed out before forming into several massive blades that whirled towards Ashley.

Grunting in surprise, Ashley brought his sword up to block and jumped back, narrowly avoiding being slashed into several different pieces.

"Thermo Geist," Emeralda said calmly, a torrent of flames bursting forth. Ashley scurried away to avoid it, only to hear a soul-curdling growl as a massive beast composed of darkness itself emerged and hurled itself at him. The beast lunged for Ashley's throat but stopped just short as Emeralda held her hand up and looked pointedly at the judge.

"Emeralda is the winner!"

One was a young man with brown hair clad in heavy armor. He had a shield on one arm and held a sword in the other. The other combatant was a rather thin man with wild blue hair, a red bandana, and clothing made of leather and wool. He held a strange rod-like weapon with a sling mounted at one end.

"Our next combatants use two wildly different styles. Please welcome Benjamin and the Selkie!" BEGIN!"

The Selkie twirled his sling, releasing several stones at Benjamin, who raised his shield to block them. The projectiles bounced harmlessly off of the shield.

The Selkie backpedalled, fire swirling in his hands. As Benjamin extended his sword outward and began charging, the Selkie hurled the flame at him.

"Fira!"

Benjamin stopped, bringing his shield in front of him and his sword into a guard position. The flames exploded on his shield, but due to his defense, he came out relatively unscathed.

"Thunder!" he yelled, powerful bolts of lightning crackling over the length of his blade. He thrust hard, the lightning hurling itself at the Selkie, who dodged nimbly to the side.

The Selkie ran around Benjamin, aiming a sharp blow at his skull. Turning as fast as he was able, Benjamin raised his shield, just in time to deflect the blow. Again and again, the Selkie struck, raining furious blows upon Benjamin's head and armored body, but Benjamin blocked the blows with ease. Throwing up his shield, he boosted the sling into the air, severely disrupting the Selkie's stance. Now unprotected, the Selkie backpedaled as Benjamin thrust forward with his blade, impaling the Selkie.

The Selkie gasped and slid off the end of the blade, just as the Cleric and White Mage unit ran onto the field to attend him.

One was dressed in a red overcoat and carried a massive sword slung over his shoulder. His hands were gloved and his black hair was touched with gray. At his side was belted a large bottle of sake, and he wore black underneath the coat.

The other was a brown-haired man dressed in a black, fur-trimmed leather jacket and a white tank top. He wore black pants and several belts, and carried a blade with a pistol mounted on the end.

"The next fight is between Auron and Squall! BEGIN!"

Auron grasped his sword in both hands and held it low, swinging it horizontally at Squall with a wide, sweeping arc.

Squall dodged easily, stepping backwards and out of the range of Auron's sword. Again, Auron slashed at Squall, this time in a diagonal arc, but the blade was too slow and cumbersome to hit.

Squall dodged stroke after stroke, allowing Auron to become tired. When he sensed that Auron's limbs were significantly weakened from the exertion, he dodged a horizontal slash and dashed in, stabbing Auron in the chest and pulling the trigger on his gunblade. Auron gasped in pain and fell backward, his body disintegrating into a mass of pyreflies.

One was a young boy with brown hair and severely oversized feet. In his hands he held a strange thing that seemed to be an amalgamation of key and sword, with a long blade on one end and covered in decorations, with a red key end on the other side of the blade. He wore a black and white jacket, and black pants, and he had a crown necklace around his neck.

The other was a young man, several years older than the first. He wore rich red clothes and his hair was blond and well-groomed. In one hand he carried a sword, and in the other he held a shield, both of which he held in a battle-ready stance.

"Our next battle is between Sora and Prince Kiefer! BEGIN!'

Kiefer readied his sword and rushed in, slashing at Sora. Sora blocked with his keyblade, pushing off the other end and trying to throw Kiefer back.

Eventually, both combatants broke away, and Kiefer leveled his sword with Sora's throat. Shouting a battle cry that left Sora momentarily stunned, he lunged forward, flames wrapping around his sword.

Sora recovered his senses just in time to jump into the air, gliding over Kiefer and landing on the other side.

"Gravity!" he yelled as he quickly spun around. Kiefer grunted as the air around him constricted, making him unable to move. Seizing the advantage, Sora ran forward and bashed Kiefer in the head with the blunt end of his keyblade, knocking him unconcious.

"Sora is the winner!"

Wish I had been able to join earlier, but I was on vacation. Anyway, I don't know either of the characters, but lets go with Mithra for 1000.

The gates opened and two more figures stepped onto the field. One was a brown-furred woman in spikey black full plate mail and carrying a black scythe. The other was a muscular young man wearing a skull helmet. He had a long mane of fiery red hair, and he carried a scimitar.

"The next battle is between the Dark Knight and Duran! BEGIN!"

"Diamond Saber!" Duran yelled, sprinting forward and slashing at the Dark Kngiht, his blade hardening.

The Dark Knight raised her scythe and blocked the attack, the weapons coming together with a loud crash.

"Soul Eater," the Dark Knight hissed. Dark energy emanated around her, and a skull superimposed itself over her form. Pushing Duran away, she swept her scythe at him in a wide arc. Duran danced out of the way before coming in and slashing at her right side. The Dark Knight lowered her shoulder and accepted the hit before charging forward and bashing Duran in the chest with her shoulder.

Duran grunted and staggered backwards. The Dark Knight looked at him for a moment, and a black cloud enveloped Duran. He coughed as the poison took effect, but gamely raised his sword and held it in the air. "Erruption Sword!" he yelled, assaulting the Dark Knight with a flurry of blinding and powerful blows.

The Dark Knight's armor absorbed most of the impact, but she was obviously battered when the assault was over.

"Blood Weapon," she spat, again enveloping herself in a dark aura. Sweeping her scythe in a wide arc, she slashed a deep gash into Duran's chest, her own wounds healing.

Gasping for air and staggered from the wound and poison, Duran fell to the ground, still clutching his blade.

"The Dark Knight is the winner!"

The gates opened once again and the next two combatants stepped onto the field.

One was an aging man with a brown cloak and blue armor. He had a gray beard in his hands, he carried a rather formidable looking sword.

The other was a tall and muscular figure with a flowing red cloak, purple pants, and tall, brown boots. His hair was bluish white, and it fell to just under his armpits. In his hands he carried a scythe, and his face was calm and expressionless.

"Our next battle is between Magus and Orlandu! BEGIN!"

"Black Hole," Magus hissed, a massive black orb emerging from his hands and hurling itself at Orlandu.

Orlandu stood his ground and his sword glowed with white light.

"Holy Explosion!" he yelled, slashing his sword outward. A massive shockwave of holy energy charged along the ground, connecting with Magus's spell. Both spells came together with a crash and cancelled each other out.

"Lightning Stab!" Orlandu yelled, thrusting his sword at Magus. A massive blade of lightning burst from his blade, easily crossing the gap between them. Magus muttered a curse and dodged to the side, the blade taking him in the side and hurling him backwards, shocking him at the same time.

Standing, Magus raised his arm, blood trickling down his lip.

"Dark Bomb!" he yelled, hurling a gray sphere at Orlandu.

Orlandu dodged to the side, and the sphere fell to the ground beside him and exploded outward. Grunting, Orlandu was flung into the air, and landed a few feet away.

Clutching his sword, he rose to his feet.

"DARK MATTER!" Magus yelled, taking advantage of Orlandu's weakened state.

"NIGHT SWORD!" Orlandu yelled, again thrusting his blade at Magus.

A wave of dark energy burst forth, slamming into Orlandu with great force. At the same time, a lance of orange energy hurled itself from Orlandu's sword and impaled Magus.

Both combatants gasped in pain. As the attacks ended, Magus fell to the ground, clutching his stomache.

Orlandu was kneeling and breathing heavily, his sword supporting him. Gamely, he stood, sheathed his sword, and walked off the arena.

"Orlandu is the winner!"

One was a young man with short, light brown hair. He wore brown armor and carried a longsword in his hand. In the other, he held a buckler.

The other combatant was a man dressed in red, with a mask over his face and a katana in his hand.

"The next battle is Glenn and the Ninja! BEGIN!"

Glenn shot forward, his blade sweeping low at the Ninja's torso. The Ninja dove into a roll, under Glenn's blade. Coming up, he slashed at Glenn with his katana, hitting the mail and knocking Glenn backwards.

Stabalizing himself, Glenn tried a thrust this time, but the Ninja again dodged, dancing out of the way and making a sign with his hands. A fireball burst forward, hurling itself at Glenn.

Grunting, Glenn dodged to the side as the fireball shot past him. His eyes narrowing, he gripped his blade in both hands and slashed at the Ninja.

The Ninja brought his katana up and blocked the slash. Placing his other hand on the back of the blade, he began applying pressure, causing Glenn's sword to buckle.

Bunching his muscles, Glenn pushed with all his might, hurling the Ninja backwards with a mighty swing. However, this off-balanced him, allowing the Ninja a moment to make an arcane sign with his hands. A burst of ice shards shot forward, striking Glenn in the chest and face and cutting him in several areas. His face bloodied, Glenn staggered as the Ninja shot forward and bashed him in the face with his katana. Glenn grunted and fell backwards, unconcious.

Vincent grunted and dodged to the side, but some of the bolts managed to hit him, causing him to clutch his side in pain.

Clutching his gun, one of the green gemstones began to glow. Pulling the trigger, he released a ball of fire from his gun, which hurled itself at Faris.

Faris dodged, and began rapidly weaving her fingers.

"Doublecast! Fira! Blizzara!"

A gout of fire followed by a storm of ice shards swept through the air, hurling themselves at Vincent. Vincent grunted in pain, and his body began to shift. As he rose, he transformed into a massively muscled humanoid construct with huge fists and a strange, zombie-like appearance. Howling, he charged forward as Faris drew her sword to meet the oncoming attack.

Vincent tackled Faris, pinning her to the ground. Faris grunted in rage and tried vainly to pull him off of her, but he was too heavy. Raising a blunt fist, he punched her in the face, knocking her unconcious.

Unable to control his body, Vincent lifted his arm again only to be subdued by the Black Mage and Wizard unit while the White Mage and Cleric unit came in to heal Faris.

Kain whirled his spear expertly in his left hand and thrust it at Shadow. Shadow dodged out of the way and hurled a dirk at Kain, but Kain spun his spear and brushed it aside with the haft.

Returning his spear to a ready position, Kain whipped it out at Shadow, striking with an upward slash. Shadow dodged to the side and Interceptor leapt, seemingly out of nowhere, at Kain, slamming into his chest and causing him to stagger backwards.

Seizing the opportunity, Shadow ran in and stabbed Kain, tripping him with his left foot as Kain doubld over. As Kain fell to the ground wit a loud thud, Shadow brought his dagger to Kain's throat.

"Aqua Dham," Emeralda said calmly, a torrent of water rushing forth and blasting the demon.

"Ifrit!" the Summoner yelled as the demon dematerialized before his eyes.

Emeralda's eyes narrowed and she rushed forward, her hands forming into spears. The Summoner raised his hand once again and this time, a massive sea serpent emerged, its fangs barred.

"Anemo Omega!" Emeralda yelled as she continued charging, bolts of lightning filling the sky and destroying the sea serpent within seconds.

The summoner stepped back and tried another spell, but Emeralda was too fast. Leaping into the air, she thrust one of her spear arms into his chest, cutting off his incantation and causing him to fall to the ground, only to be set upon by the Cleric and White Mage unit while the Black Mage and Wizard unit pulled Emeralda off him.

Benjamin's blade crackled with lightning, and he thrust it into the air. "Thunder!"

Lightning shot into the sky and descended upon Squall, who made no attempt to dodge it. As it descended upon him, the figure of a beautiful maiden with pale blue skin and long, dark blue hair appeared, her arms draped protectively over Squall. The lightning bolt struck her in the back, but she didn't move at all, and vanished in the next instance.

Squall opened his eyes, which were now glowing with a pale blue light.

"Diamond Dust!" he yelled. The maiden once again appeared, her arms still wrapped around Squall. Straightening, she turned to face Benjamin, a ball of blue magic gathering in her hands. Releasing it, a torrent of ice burst forth, encasing Benjamin in ice. Lifting a delicate hand, the maiden snapped her fingers, and the ice shattered. Benjamin stood stock-still for a moment, before falling to the ground, unconcious.

The Dark Knight raised her scythe and charged at Sora, slashing at him. Sora brought his keyblade out and blocked it, before jumping high into the air and gliding away.

"Gravira!" Sora yelled, magic shooting from his keyblade. A massive orb of dark energy surrounded the Dark Knight, pinning her to the ground.

"Aero!" Sora yelled again, this time surrounding himself with a shield of wind. Running in, he smacked the Dark Knight with the blunt end of his keyblade while the Dark Knight was pinned.

The Dark Knight grunted as she drew back, regaining the use of her limbs. Scowling, she raised her hand, sending out a cloud of poisonous fumes. Sora slashed at it with his keyblade, the blade glowing with magic. To the Dark Knight's surprise, the cloud was deflected upon her, engulfing her.

As the Dark Knight staggered backwards, Sora jumped forward and unleashed a chain of vicious attacks, knocking her to the ground. She struggled for a moment to rise, but found herself unable to do so.

"Dark Sword!" Orlandu yelled, again thrusting his blade at the Ninja. Once more, energy burst from his blade and impaled the Ninja, although this time it didn't open another wound. The Ninja finished the incantation, but his magic fizzled in a flash of varicolored light.

"Holy Explosion!" OIrlandu yelled, bringing his sword down. A blast of white light emerged from the heavens and engulfed the Ninja, blasting him to the ground. Orlandu sheathed his sword calmly as the Cleric and White Mage unit rushed to his aid.

All right, just so you all are well aware, as a mod I can read deleted posts. After this fight I am instituting a no changing bet policy. The first bet is the one that sticks. I also check the thread fairly regularily, so if I see that it's been editted, I'll hold you to the initial bet.

Shadow and Interceptor darted off to either side as Vincent drew his gun. Drawing a bead on Shadow, he fired several successive shots, but Shadow was too fast for Vincent to keep up with, and all the shots missed.

Interceptor leapt at Vincent, his fangs digging deep into his legs. Vincent cursed and slammed Interceptor in the face with his gauntlet, knocking the dog to the ground.

Shadow drew several shuriken from his gi and hurled them at Vincent. Vincent grunted as they dug into his chest and turned his gun on Shadow, one of the green gems in the barrel glowing.

Several bolts of lightning burst from the gun and hurled themselves at Shadow, who leapt to the ground. Some of the bolts scarred his side as they passed, wounding him. As he stood, Vincent aimed the gun at him again and fired, another green gem glowing. A burst of ice shards emerged from the gun, striking Shadow and inflicting many wounds upon him. Shadow stood and went for another weapon, but the loud crack of Vincent's gun resounded through the stadium, and Shadow fell to the ground once more, clutching the bullet wound in his chest.

"Our next match is between Montblanc and Emeralda! BEGIN!"

"Haste!" Montblanc yelled, magical swiftness invigorating him.

"Terra Holz," Emeralda said calmly. The arena was suddenly torn up by massive spikes of earth emerging from the ground. One came up and stabbed Montblanc, launching him into the air.

"Firaga!" Montblanc yelled weakly. Emeralda frowned and nimbly jumped to the side as the torrent of flame burst forth from the wounded moogle, incinerating the area she was just standing in.

Emeralda charged forward. As the moogle hit the ground, she stood over him and formed her arm into a longsword, aiming it at his throat.

"Emeralda is the winner!"

The gates opened once more as Thunder God and Keyblade Master stepped onto the field.

"Our next battle is between Orlandu and Sora! BEGIN!"

Sora leapt into the air and began gliding, keyblade in his right hand.

"Lightning Stab!" Orlandu yelled, thrusting his blade at Sora. A massive blade of lightning burst forth, but Sora was moving too fast and he dodged the attack.

Landing lightly to the side of Orlandu, Sora raised his keyblade.

"Thundara!" he yelled, bolts of lighting emerging from the sky and striking at Orlandu.

Orlandu jumped back, taking a few hits in his attempt to dodge. Grunting, he slashed his sword in a downward arc.

"Holy Explosion!"

A beam of light came down as Sora desperately rolled to the side, taking him in the leg. Sora tried to stand, but the wound slowed him down. He looked up just in time to see Orlandu raise his sword.

"Stasis Sword!"

Shards of Ice burst from the sword, enshrouding Sora and shattering. When they cleared, Sora was lying on the ground, breathing heavily and covered in wounds.

Energy began to swarm around Sora and when he stood, he held two keyblades in his hands, one long and ornately decorated one and another plain silver one with a gold handle. Standing shakily, he raised his keyblade.

"Cura!"

Mystic energy flowed through him and his wounds healed somewhat. Leveling his blades, he charged at Orlandu, just as Orlandu thrust his sword at Sora.

"Shellbust Stab!"

Sora rolled to the side as the crescent shockwave slashed through the air. Standing, he continued his charge and slashed at Orlandu with his right keyblade.

Orlandu brought his sword down to knock the keyblade aside. Sora immediately swung his second at Orlandu's skull. Orlandu raised his hand and caught the blade, yanking it forward and pulling Sora off balance.

Bringing his sword in, he thrust it at Sora.

"Crush Punch!"

A beam of energy lanced through Sora's body, flinging him like a ragdoll. Sora landed several feet away from Orlandu, his hands clutching a bloody wound on his chest. Orlandu sheathed his sword as the Cleric and White Mage unit rushed onto the scene.

The gates opened, and ex-Turk and Nanomachine stepped onto the field.

"The next battle is between Vincent and Emeralda! BEGIN!"

Vincent drew his gun and fired three successive shots at Emeralda. Emeralda frowned and her body opened up in the middle, allowing the bullets to pass through without harming her. Reforming, she sprouted green, feathery wings from her back and took to the air.

Vincent aimed his gun into the air as Emeralda's eyes glowed.

"Thermo Geist!" she said, a massive torrent of flame bursting from her and engulfing the battlefield below. Vincent swore as one of the green gems on his gun glowed. "Blizzaga!" he yelled, ice bursting from his gun. The flames enveloped the battlefield as the ice spread outward, and a loud hissing could be heard.

Emeralda flew over the steam cloud, keeping moving in case Vincent was still on his feet. Sure enough, as the steam cleared, Vincent appeared, trying in vain to aim at Emeralda.

Emeralda swooped in and turned her hand into a massive mace, slapping Vincent aside. He grunted as he was blasted into the arena wall. As he stood, Emeralda rushed in, impaling him on a spear-arm.

Vincent gasped and coughed up blood, his arms beginning to grow and thicken. Massive black wings sprouted from his back as his chest grew muscular and his face became demonic.

Emeralda drew back and flew into the air, her own wings flapping gracefully and showering the burnt battlefield with green feathers.

Vincent shrieked in rage and flew up, slashing at Emeralda. Emeralda dodged as best she could, but several blades managed to cut her, opening wounds that did not bleed.

Emeralda flew up higher and spread her wings, lightning showering the field. Vincent screamed in rage as the lighting assailed him. Energy pulsating through him, he hurled screaming black skulls at Emeralda.

Emeralda danced in the air, dodging away from the skulls. She spread her wings again and a massive wave of ice burst forth, engulfing Vincent and encasing him in ice. As he began to fall, he burst free with a mighty roar, his wings spreading and keeping him from falling. At that moment a massive dark beast hurled itself at him, knocking him to the ground. The dark beast clawed at his body, inflicting deep wounds. Roaring again, Vincent hurled a skull at it, causing it to vaporize into black mist. At that moment another torrent of flame engulfed him, causing him to howl in rage. As the flames cleared Emeralda flew in their wake, much akin to an avenging angel. Her arm forming into a spear, she thrust it into Vincent's chest. He roared in pain, and shifted back into his normal form, which was heavily battered by the fight.

The gates opened once more as the Thunder God and SeeD stepped onto the field.

"The next battle is between Orlandu and Squall! BEGIN!"

Squall drew his gunblade and aimed it at Orlandu, firing twice.

Orlandu dodged to the side, energy crackling upon his sword. Raising it, he thrust at Squall.

"Hellcry Punch!"

A massive surge of energy burst from his sword. Squall jumped to the side, narrowly avoiding it.

Righting himself, Orlandu thrust his sword at Squall once more.

"Crush Punch!"

Squall raised his hands and his eyes glowed red. As the energy from Orlandu's attack sped towards Squall, a demonic creature appeared, wreathed in flames, it's arms wrapped around Squall protectively. Jumping in front of him, the creature was impaled upon the attack, and dissipated into red fragments.

Orlandu dashed in and unleashed a vicious horizontal slash at Squall, who barely managed to bring his gunblade down in time to block it. Orlandu gripped his sword in both hands, pushing heavily against Squall's blade.

Squall's legs buckled from under him as he gripped his gunblade in both hands, but the added strength was not sufficient to stop Orlandu. Desperately, Squall pushed upwards with his blade with all his strength, knocking Orlandu back slightly. Using this chance, he drew back and aimed his balde at Orlandu, preparing to fire.

"Holy Explosion!"

A beam of white light descended from the heavens and engulfed Squall. When it passed, he kneeled upon the ground, panting heavily.

"Night Sword!" Orlandu yelled, thrusting at Squall. Squall glared at him with yellow eyes as a massive birdlike creature appeared and was impaled upon Orlandu's attack, it, too, dissipating.

In the wake of the attack, Orlandu sped forward and slashed at Squall's gunblade, knocking it to the side. He then took his sword and pointed it at Squall's throat, the blade glowing with gathered energy.

Squall faced down the blade for a moment, before lowering his head.

In a bit early tonight, eh? Disappointingly, Squall never unleashed any of his limit breaks.
After Orlandu trounces Emeralda, I suggest one last bonus battle. It can be a preliminary thing for Albel since he was denied his opportunity to appear. Instead of facing off against the victor, he'll fight Squall, since he didn't fill his battle quota as had everyone else. This will serve as an opportunity for Squall to redeem himself to appear in the next tournament. Of course, the betting on this particular battle would be more about whether we think you want to continue writing for Squall or if you've gotten tired of him already. Meh. Something to think about.

The gates opened amidst the wild cheers of the crowd as the final match began. Emeralda strode confidently into the stadium, her long green hair framing her tall and slender form.

Orlandu entered from the other side, sword drawn and cloak wrapped tightly around his body. Energy crackled along his blade, and he appeared ready for a fight.

"The final match is between Emeralda and Orlandu! BEGIN!"

Emeralda's eyes hardened to narrow slits as green feathered wings burst from her back. Beating them, she lifted off into the air, flying overhead.

Orlandu ran his hand over the blade and it began to crackle with electricity.

"LIGHTNING STAB!" he howled as a blade of lightning extended outward, bursting towards Emeralda with great speed.

Emeralda beat her wings once more and dodged to the side, the lightning narrowly missing her. She closed her eyes as a red aura enveloped her, ether forming in her hands.

"THERMO GEIST!" she yelled, flames bursting forth and enveloping the battlefield.

Orlandu grunted and ran to the edge of the arena, his blade pulsing with blue energy.

"STASIS SWORD!" he yelled, shards of ice bursting from his sword and causing a burst of steam as they connected with the flames and melted instantaneously, holding back the flames and preventing them from reaching him.

"SPLIT PUNCH!" Orlandu yelled, a ghostly image of a blue sword bursting through the cloud of steam and hurling itself at Emeralda.

Emeralda gasped in pain as the blade impaled her, opening a wound in her chest that began to bleed a strange ichor.

Hissing softly to herself, she folded her wings and swooped in low. Her hand transformed into a massive mace and she swung it at Orlandu, who raised his sword to block the strike.

Emeralda whirled, two large axe-like blades bursting from her chest and slashing at Orlandu.

Orlandu grimaced and jumped back, freeing Emeralda's hand, which she transformed into a long spear and thrust at him.

Orlandu groaned as the nanomachine's blade impaled him. Grasping the blade in one hand, he grit his teeth and thrust his sword at Emeralda.

"CRUSH PUNCH!"

A lance of orange energy burst forth from the sword and impaled Emeralda. She shrieked in pain as it hit her began glowing with yellow light.

"AMENO OMEGA!"

A torrent of lightning burst forth from where Emeralda stood. Orlandu howled in pain as it slammed into him, releasing his grip on Emeralda's blade. The lightning blasted him backwards into the wall, where he lay for a few tense moments before slowly standing, using his blade to support himself.

Emeralda was still standing, but her shoulders were hunched and she was breathing heavily.

For several moments both combatants stood, staring each other down. Orlandu stood and gripped his blade tightly, energy crackling around it. Emeralda responded by once again sprouting massive green-feathered wings and forming a sword which seemed attached to her hand.

"HOLY EXPLOSION!"

Beams of light burst from the sky just as Emeralda jumped forward, scorching the ground where she had been standing mere moments before with holy energy.

Emeralda's wings snapped open and she glided through the air. Recovering his sword, Orlandu ran his hand over the blade and thrust it at Emeralda in one fluid motion.

"LIGHTNING STAB!"

Emeralda beat her wings fiercely and spiraled through the air, dodging the attack by a hairsbreadth. Shooting forward, she thrust her sword at Orlandu.

They both stood there for a moment as Emeralda retracted her wings, Orlandu's sword extended and Emeralda right next to him, within his guard. Coughing blood, Orlandu fell to his knees and fell back, sliding off her sword. Emeralda backed away and dropped to her knees, gasping for breath, as the Cleric and White Mage unit rushed forward to attend to both combatant.
