I don't understand why, really. Someone can't see so he gets glasses and everyone calls him a nerd. And the weird thing about it is that when a kid in my [old] class got glasses he was called a nerd but when get got contacts he wasn't anymore.

ANY close-focusing of the eyes is detrimental to long-range eyesight(at least, until your eyes are fully developed around 20-years-old). The biggest cause is reading, but there's also being on the computer, for example. Video games usually aren't a problem because most people sit more than a few feet away from the TV.

Why would wearing glasses make you a communist. Wearing glasses doesn't mean you are a nerd or a communist, it means that your eyes are weak and need help from good old convex lens.

Are those for far-sightedness? I forget. If so, that comes with age - and that's because your eyes have been focused outward for so long, they now have trouble with the transition of focusing closer in.

However I guess I was a bit of a "nerd" at school, (considered one anyway by the "cool" people) and I didn't even wear glasses then. Yeah. Anyways, having glasses generally doesn't mean that you are smart. I don't wear glasses at all, and I have top notch marks that a "nerd" would normally get. People get glasses not only because of reading, but also they watch TV too much, or play video games too much, etc.
