help with servers and rise of the zilart, pleeease??

ok, so I just spent $160, and all day registering everything. I finally get to make a character, go to connect and play. then the screen goes black, sounds of waves and a little bit of music is going, and then it says "error code: FFXI-3001 No response from server. Connection host timed out. Press OK to shut down"

after coming to this screen about 10 times, I'm realizing a few things that could maybe have something to do with it.

1. I dont remember ever seeing anything about being assigned to a server, and most people seem to know which server they're on.

2. it tells me to be sure to register FFXI: Rise of the Zilart, or I may experience problems. and it says that it was supposed to be included in the final US release of FFXI, but nowhere on or in any of the boxes or manuals that I have, does it say rise of the zilart. just ffxi and tetra master. Did I somehow get an old copy and screw myself?

at this point, I dont know whats going on. sorry if the 2 things above dont have anything to do with anything. can somebody please help me???????

I wouldn't double post. Also are you playing on PC or PS2? You don't NEED rise of zilart to run the game, so that's not hte problem. Also everyone gets assigned to a server.

If it didn't come with RoZ, then you most likely got the JPN version? That's the only version that didn't come with RoZ. The expansions just add new areas in and stuff, so you just won't be able to access them.

Call S-E's help desk and get some help.

RoZ is the 4th disc in the PC version non DVD. Did you register with it? I doubt its RoZ, you can still play without it, its just you cant access certain zones.

If you are creating your first character, you are randomly assigned a server unless you use a worldpass. I don't believe it shows you the server you're assigned to if you don't use a world pass.

But the disconnecting i'm not too sure about. I'd take Omecles advice and call the help desk.

If your playing on PS2 then you need the cord hooked into the back of the PS2, also take omceles adive. If your getting a disconnected sign, then something is might be wrong with your connection. Check all your wiring and whatnot but basically just call the help desk.

I have it for the ps2. and I havent been able to find anything that has to do with the rise of the zilart. I've put in both discs and installed everything on them. its just ffxi and tetra master. I'm a little confused on how that could happen though. but as far as connections go, I've already been connected to playonline, gotten emails and everything, so it's looking good there.

well I got it all set up. I just had to reconfigure my router and do some port forwarding. and omecle, I had already tried SE's useless online TS, and all those tards could say was that it was all just congestion, and that it would be fine once they were done with the update. so yea, I'm gonna be a smartass.

So I'm meant to magically read your mind, that you used online help? Get real. You know congestion from the update was a problem too, so don't call their help useless; they don't specialise in your stupid connection.

the point was that anyone could have told me that, so you were ALMOST as helpful as the USELESS tech support. the server congestion wasnt the problem for me at all, and the tech support just telling me to wait a little while, or to call my internet provider, and just moving me along without answering any of my questions really doesnt help.

I agree, it was just some random thing I pulled out of my butt and it did make me sound stupid. I take it back.

What I'm trying to say is, all they can do is give you port numbers (which they actually tell you in the manual and on PlayOnline, so I don't even know why you'd have troupe there) to open up. They can't re-configure your network connection or hardware for you - that's what your ISP is there for.

Also, about the update, even a day after it people were having trouble connecting to FFXI. So you never know - seeing as you posted around that time, it very well could have just been that.
