Hi, I am new to FF and to these forums. The only RPG's I have played so far are Chrono Trigger (passed it), FF8 (I'm on disc 3) and the Zelda games, although I am not sure if they are rpg's. Well, anyways, which FF is a nice choice to play. ..I've heard that a lot of people hate FF8, but I love it, so on that note, I am very open to all the FF's...even the old NES ones. Well, thanks for your help.

FF1, FF2, FF3 (rom only), FF4, FF5, FF6, FF7, FF9, FF10, FF10-2, FF11, and if you can preorder it, FF12.

If you wanna start playing Final Fantasy, you should start by FF1. You can either download the NES rom or the GBA rom, or buy those I mentioned or the Playstation version.

FFVII, FFIX, or FFX.

I started with ff5. It's very middling and probably will give you the best introduction.

It's decently easy, you have a lot of fun with job classes, yet you can still save teh best for last.

Which is why you ff7 fans oughtn't suggest he start with ff7.
Geeze, have some restraint people.

And I wouldn't start with ff1 unless you're expected to be fighting. a lot. and maybe get boredxD

Oh, and since you like ff8, play X:D 8 is my favorite and X is right behind it ^_^

Honestly, I'm going to suggest FF7 simply because, well, its a great game, and since the sequel is coming out in a couple months, best get 7 out of the way.

Thanks for the advice! I guess I am going to start with V and then VII...VII just because the sequel is coming out soon and I want to be able to watch the movie and understand what's happening.

i say you should start ff7 as nothing has come close to its brilliance, i'd start a playstation one first nothing older than ff7 i think you should get into ff games before you start playin the older ones

It would be nice to do it from I to X-2, but you should probably start with FFVII-X
One of them, there all the 3D ones, and the better ones. I dont recommened a 2D on, except VI to start with
But start off with a a 3D game ( I recommened FFVII ( Best FF ) )

I would aviod the 10 series, it will kill your love for the game before you even started. 5 perhaps but must plays are 6 and 7.

Consider FF Tactics as well. I was a little hesitant to buy it at first, but it's an excellent game in every respect. :)

Don't forget 6.

Download the ROM for FF6. If I were you I'd do it in this order:

FFVII (just to get it out of the way before Advent Children comes out)
FFI
FFII
FFIII
FF Mystic Quest
FFIV
FFV
FFVI
FFIX
FFX

Just rent FFX-2 to try it, and see what you think. IMO the game is complete crap, a disgrace to the FF series. FFX however is great.

you should try either 7, 8, 9, or 10 first, because they are the ez to find. 10-2 sucks big time.

You should go from FF1 to downloading FF3 so you can understand it more. When you think you are ready for tough and complicated RPG ways go-on and play FF2. If you feel that yur not ready then play in this order...

I
III
VI
IX
VII
then II
then whatever else you want to go on next...

FFIX. It's lighthearted, easy to pick up and doesn't require a lot of FF experience to beat the bosses.

It doesn't matter which one you start out with. All of the games are different adventures (with the exception of FFX-2) It just depends on how original you want to get. If you want a 3D adventure get FFVII or higher, if you want one with retro graphics and old school style then get any one under FFVII. Also, many of the games use magic differently and some have job classes (Wizard, Archer, Knight, etc.). You might just have to look into it more to see which you are interested in.

Now If you want my opinion then that's a whole different story. I say FFVII. That one is the best one to start out with because you can kinda get how the 3D FF games will work but it still has some of the same elements that the older ones have. It is also the one that seems to have received the most popularity so it might make you want to get more and is less likely to discourage you from buying the other games.

VII or IX. Actually consider X if you have a PS2.

Thanks for all the advice guys! And btw, I thought that IX was hated by most FF fans...well seeing how it is not that hated, I might check it out next. Right now, I started playing FF I &II :Dawn of Souls for the GBA and it is extremely addictive. Well, I'm off to beat Astos.

The first FF game I played was VII - I loved it. But my favourite is VIII by far. So I recommend you play VII and then VIII.
