I used to play snare drum in the school band. I was also kind of good at playing full set, though I suck these days.

I also played bass guitar, but I lost interest in that a couple of years ago.

I played alto saxophone in Middle School. It was pretty awesome. I quit because I didn't want to take up an elective in High School. Kinda sad I quit, I always use to make great friends in band.

I think music/band should be a requirement in school.

I second that :p

But actually, once you're in a band you eventually play all the main instruments, so I naturally can play guitar, bass, and drums very fluidly. I also use vocals and a variety of other instruments. This is what I can play in order of importance

Guitar
Bass
Piano/Organs
Drums
Trumpet
Bagpipes
Alto Saxophone
Violin
Flute (for the more Celtic things)
French Horn
Trombone

That's about the gist of what I am proficient at, there are others where I can play little or short things. But those are the ones I'm best at.

You should try to find a program like Finale (I think) that can convert midis into sheet music, for easy things to find to play. It rules.

Yeah I did something like that with Cakewalk to learn the Ultima Online main
theme. I use Finale to see some sheet music that I've found online,
but a lot of the stuff I've found is just JPGs, which work out well enough
though. :p

I have to decide now, though, between Seal of the Wind from FFX-2: PC,
The Prelude from FFIV: PC, or Ending Theme from FFVIII: PC. The most
difficult of which will be Ending Theme, but I'd like to give it a shot.

Tell them they're fools. My jazz band has a violin. I mean really, who would expect a violin with a swing/big band (without the big band) style jazz band? I think tuba would be pretty awesome if you could work it in.

It sounds really good when I can hear her. The only issue is that she worries about screwing up a little too much and usually plays too quietly for me to hear that well from behind my drums. We just need to work on geting her confidence up a bit more though, because when I can hear her, she sounds really good, and everyone else (who can usually hear her better than I) say she sounds great too.

§håd0w

As long as she's in a jazz band, she shouldn't be worried about how she sounds or wether or not she messes up. Improv, it's the way to go.

Or their is no true best drummer in the world (what a concept  ). Seriously, the best drummer in the world would be someone who plays every style better than anyone else, and who is the most innovative and creative drummer going. If you can come up with a non-subjective way to rate guys on both criteria, that every drummer could agree with, I'd like to see it. The best you can ever do is say, "I really like the way so and so plays," or "such and such was a huge influence on my playing." Seriously, there's a good reason guys claiming someone's the best drummer ever on a drum forum tend to be flamed for it (even if the person they're talking about is a great drummer).

I think it's stupid saying someone is 'the best' at any instrument. It's like comparing Eric Clapton to Kirk Hammet (sp?) they are completly different guitarists with completley different musical styles and technique.

The thing to say is 'my favourite guitarist is David Gilmour' or 'My favourite drummer is the dude from the Mars Volta'
