Because honestly I just started and I have no clue what to do. I'm the best person being DM when me and friends play, and most of the 'adventures' if you can call it that, are just off the internet. Anywho, can you give some tips from both sides of the table?

When I used to play and was DM I found it best to pick one of the people in the group and pick on them. It usually gets things a little more emotional and makes for a more interesting experience. So poor Darth Adventurer would get robbed, then go to a bar and wake up with no clothes in the alley behind it, then go adventuring in the cave by town and have a kobold jump from behind a rock and whack him, etc... Basically just make it as horrible a day as possible for one person, or even rotate every half hour or so to make it a little more interesting.
